Yes but you also want to ignore bad signings, bad asset management and a bad approach when it comes to leaving things until the last minute. You have a love in for Benning that’s great but don’t ignore facts that seperate great general managers from mediocre ones. Right now he is a mediocre general manager that is great at one part of his job (drafting) and terrible at other parts. How many players has he let walk after giving up assets to get them and gotten nothing for them in the end? It’s part of the reason our depth is so bare. Even now the management team is doing everything as a wait and see approach. They will lose Green, Clark and ufas if they continue to operate like this.

Seven years without a clear plan from Canucks brass.

I think a big problem is the term of our bottom 6 which does not allow Benning to upgrade or replace players. The term was way too long for some of these veterans. They easily could be replaced with faster, younger and more talented players. It’s on Benning in terms of the term he gave out to them. Another issue is the fact he has shown he has not been able to get assets through trades on pending ufas that they did not resign or had no intention of resigning. It’s a a sign of a good gm if they can get assets back for players instead of letting them walk for nothing. It’s bad asset management. -

I think number two should be insulate and mentor prospects with QUALITY veteran ufas. Not bottom of the barrel ufas. -
The fact he wasn't fully committed to a rebuild is another problem. Yes the owners probably had a lot to do with that but you also need a gm with a backbone that will stick up for the right way to build a team and not a gm that tried to make the playoffs for so many years when they knew they weren't good enough. He still has had a few years now to get players to surround them with and he hasn't done that. It would be nice to have a gm with a clear plan. Honestly what is this team? What is their identity? Shouldn't they at least have that by now?

Yes and he hasn't done much over the last couple of years to make it better. He comes up with excuses all the time. We know why he hasn't been able to. Those contracts that are all piled up and where some players are not even on the team have come back to bite us. Good general managers find ways to improve and not come up with every excuse possible. I just think he isn't capable of being creative and figuring out ways to improve the team considering the circumstances he put himself into.

7 or 8 years does it really matter? It’s 7 years too long. He hasn’t surrounded the core players with other good players. That is a fact. You want to keep him for drafting go ahead but we will continue to hover around mediocrity until he is gone. He has had more than enough time to fix things. After almost every year he said they need to acquire more depth. Well I think it’s safe to say he’s failed in that regard. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

another thing on Benning is that he leaves everything until the last minute and it always costs us. All these staff contracts that are up and nothingnis being done until the end of the year is stupid. Yet he gave Baumgartner and Brown extensions in the middle of the year. It's just bad choice after bad choice and he thinks he's the smartest person im the room.

when a owner comes out and says he stands by a losing team and isn't holding anyone accountable, ya I would say that's a bad owner. How can he stand by and say everything is ok? The gm has wasted so much of his money. At least there should be an argument as to why Benning is still here after almost 8 years. They have won nothing and he wants two more years.

Yes they will have a week off. I have seen a couple of posts talking about how it will be good for them. They are chasing Edmonton and Montreal. Montreal will have 6 games in hand and are ahead already. We are going to be quite a bit further back when they come back. It's not good in terms of the standings. It's going to be too many points to make up and very few games left. Have to be realistic.
