  1. You wouldn’t give a 7th for a top 6 fast skating skilled power forward that knows how to fight and consistently nets over 20 goals a year with ease? Really? The idea of E.Kane-Pettersson-Boeser Miller-Horvat-Garland Doesn’t get you excited?
  2. I see what you’re saying but what does the Blackhawk situation have to do with Evander Kane? Kane is a lot of things, but he’s not in the same class of scumbag as guys like Aldrich, Stan Bowman, Fehr, and Gary Bettman.
  3. I come into this thread hoping to read about possible 1st line options and instead, see a discussion going on about “cute hockey men.” :-| :::Leaves thread:::: Ps: Pettersson-Horvat-Garland Hoglander-Miller-Boeser However, I think Green will proceed forward with the Lotto line with a few minor adjustments: Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander Podkolzin-Dickinson-Garland
  4. Trust me, I completely know where you're coming from on this (as well as other posters on here). I just can't help but think of the following: 1) To what extent would San Jose be willing to move Evander Kane via addition by subtraction? He Kane become their version of LPlayer Name or Andrew Ladd? In other words, would they actually be willing to add SWEETENERS in order to move Evander Kane?.........who, despite being 30, is still a damned good hockey player? 2) To what extent will Evander Kane realize that a potential opportunity in Vancouver would be his absolute LAST opportunity, and that any more &^@# ups would result in him being done. Based on this, would Kane be willing to change his ways? We all know what Kane is like outside of the rink. Absolute d-bag no question. BUT - given Kane's skillset (highly skilled, physical, fights, can score, is fast), he's literally exactly what this team needs........to a tee. From a pure hockey perspective. Like seriously..... E.Kane-Pettersson-Boeser (Kane being an upgrade on Miller) Miller-Horvat-Garland (Miller being an upgrade on Pearson) That's an elite top 6 is it not? Switch Dickinson with Miller and you potentially get.. E.Kane-Pettersson-Boeser Dickinson-Horvat-Garland Hoglander-Miller-Podkolzin. San Jose moves a world class hockey player for pennies on the dollar to Vancouver, with the Canucks taking a calculated risk that their current leadership group and core could be enough to keep a leash on Kane, with Kane also realizing that this would likely be his last opportunity. Kane is 30, but we see guys like Max Pacioretty being effective with a similar age and style. Kane isn't 35. He's 30. I don't know......to me, this seems like a huge opportunity to buy low on a world class player.
  5. Say what you want about Kane's off ice conduct but the guy has been nothing but mint on it. The Sharks decline had absolutely nothing to do with E.Kane. To @Elias Pettersson's point, trading Pearson for E.Kane likely wouldn't work from a cap perspective, and so I'd be tempted to do something around Myers for E.Kane (I wouldn't do Miller for E.Kane since Miller is too important for our team). To San Jose: Tyler Myers To Vancouver: Evander Kane + Nicolas Meloche E.Kane-Pettersson-Boeser Miller-Horvat-Garland Pearson-Dickinson-Hoglander Highmore-Lammiko-Bailey (Podz to Abby) Hughes-Hamonic OEL-Poolman Schenn-Meloche Demko Halak
  6. I like the idea of bringing in Kane but not at the expense of Miller. If we are looking to move a 6 million dollar man, I’d probably look at Myers.
  7. E.Kane-Pettersson-Boeser Miller-Horvat-Garland Should, Atleast in theory, be an elite top 6. The trickle down effect of moving Miller down to play with Horvat could be huge.
  8. Same reason the Canes brought in Tony DeAngelo despite the Rags and his teammates wanting him gone as well. Evander fits our team needs to a perfect tee. From a pure hockey perspective, he is EXACTLY what we need.
  9. The problem with waiting for him to get his life on track is that we wouldn’t be able to buy low on him like we probably would be able to do right now.
  10. What if the Chicago Bulls had said “eff Rodman,” or if the Hurricanes had said “eff Tony DeAngelo?” I completely agree that Evander is a troubled human being, but his skill set is EXACTLY what we need right now. Look at Tony DeAngelo in Carolina right now: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=130876
  11. edit - proposal updated to Pearson, Hamonic, and Motte for E.Kane and Meloche. [proposal] Canucks and Sharks - Yes this is an Evander Kane proposal Evander Kane is an absolute train wreck outside of the rink and probably does rub many teammates the wrong way inside the lockerroom. You know who else fit that description once upon a time? Dennis Rodman.....and the guy helped both the Pistons and Bulls win championships. The Canucks need a guy who is fast, skilled, big, and plays with an edge. Yes, Kane comes with baggage. You know who else comes with baggage? Tony DeAngelo, and the Canes were willing to give him a clean slate because the guy is a damned good hockey player that can help the team win. To San Jose: Tanner Pearson + Brandon Sutter To Vancouver: Evander Kane I don’t know if this quite works from a cap perspective, but if it doesn’t, then I also suggest that we move Tyler Motte in an independent deal for a draft pick. E.Kane-Horvat-Garland Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Dickinson-Bailey (or Podz) Highmore-Lammiko-Chiasson Hughes-Hamonic OEL-Myers Schenn-Poolman Demko Halak It’s like that old Kanye West song: “harder, better, faster, stronger.”
  12. One thing that surprises me is how Green hasn't tried the Hoglander-Miller-Boeser line as of yet. If you recall, the Canucks went 8-3-2 post Petey injury last year before the Canucks-covid broke out. It was the Canucks' best stretch of hockey last season and this line was leading the way. I would even go as far as saying that if the Canucks hadn't had that covid outbreak last season, the Canucks might have caught up to 4th place. Anyways, I'd try this: Pettersson-Horvat-Garland Hoglander-Miller-Boeser Pearson-Dickinson-Bailey Highmore-Lammiko-Chiasson Podkolzin to Abby.
  13. It’s nice but it almost has the “Canucks finally sign Alex Mogilny in 97/98” vibe to it, in that, it might be a little too late and the damage has already been done. Like Almo back then, I’m glad to see Hamonic finally “grace us with our presence,” but this sluggish start really could have and should have been avoided. Hopefully, Hamonic’s “personal reasons” were more serious than I’m giving him credit for.
  14. I think a large part of it has to do with Petey and Brock’s lackluster play. Brock missed a bit of preseason with an injury while Pettersson got injured In preseason as well apparently. There’s only so much that Miller, Horvat, and Garland can do. We are basically playing without a 1st line right now. To add to that, a lot of Green’s decisions have just been puzzling to say the very least (ie his benching of Garland and Podkolzin, along with what appears to be an infatuation with guys like Chiasson, Highmore, and Dowling). Our Power play and offensive attack in general has become extremely predictable. All of this points to coaching in my opinion. Bring in Claude Julien. Serenity now!
  15. Put Miller and Horvat together Maybe it’s just me but I think switching Horvat and Pettersson might also be a good thing to try out. Miller and Horvat have been 2 out of our 3 best forwards so far. If you can get Atleast one line going, maybe it would have a trickle down effect with the rest of the line-up. Miller-Horvat-Boeser Pearson-Pettersson-Garland Hoglander-Dickinson-Podkolzin Whatever Miller-Horvat-Garland (our three best forwards so far) Pearson-Pettersson-Boeser Whatever The following combination interest me the most however: Miller-Horvat-Hoglander Garland-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Dickinson-Podkolzin/Bailey Whatever
  16. It is technically a slump for now, but let me ask you an honest question: Based on the games that we've seen so far this season, have you been impressed by what we've seen? Last minute goals, getting off to slow starts, regularly being outshot and out chanced 5-5. Granted, it's early, but this lacklustre play is a cause for concern in my opinion. If you don't mind me asking, what was about it Podkolzin and Garland's play that makes you agree with Green's ice time allocation? This even goes back to last season with how Green chose to deploy Nate Schmidt. Look at how Schmidt is performing in Winnipeg.
  17. Agreed with this but to Provost’s point, we are NOT playing good hockey right now. It might be a slump but this homestand has been quite disturbing for me. I blame Green’s lack of creativity and decision making. Why he benched both Garland and Podkolzin for large stretches is beyond me. Why he keeps rolling out the same deadbeat predictable power play and offense is beyond me. Miller-Horvat-Garland should be our top line right now. They are our three best forwards right now and we need Atleast one line that can produce. So why not try it? But Green is too stubborn.
  18. 1) With the exception of last season, the Canucks have trended upwards almost every year points wise since 2016. Progression is not always a linear thing. Go to nhl.com and look at our “upward moving average of Point total percentages” since 2016. 2) http://mcubed.net/nhl/vgk/van.shtml: We were utterly dominated in most of our losses to Vegas but why are you conveniently ignoring the fact that we utterly dominated them in two of our wins in that series? We won Game 2 by a score of 5-2, and we won Game 6 by a score of 4-0. Perhaps in your mind, Markstrom and Demko scored all of those goals, but this is not what happened. 3) As far as the Covid season went, we had to qualify for the playoffs just like everyone else (beating Minnesota), which we then followed up by defeating the defending Stanley Cup champions in the 1st round. Now - did we get lucky qualifying for the play-ins? Maybe......maybe not. We had been losing a lot of games prior to the Covid stoppage, but we also won our last 2 of 3 games over to 2nd round calibre teams (NYI and Colorado). In those games, the Canucks were playing much tighter and Demko looked like he had acclimated to the #1 goalie position? Still think it’s luck? Well - sometimes, teams put themselves in a position to be lucky......just as we did when we absolutely dominated January 2020. If you want to take a stance that you are being “factual,” you’re not doing the greatest job with respect.
  19. Not a bad though but I’m kind of “meh” on it. Claude Julien is still my guy. Proven winner.
  20. A couple of things: 1) Rebuilds are common in pro sports. 2) You can’t keep pretending that the 2020 playoffs didn’t occur because it doesn’t suit your narrative. Whether you like it or not, the Canucks did come within a game of making the 3rd round. Let us compare our last 7 years with the mid 90’s: 1996 = 1st round loss / 2015: = 1st round loss 1997 = DNQ / 2016 = DNQ 1998 = DNQ / 2017 = DNQ 1999 = DNQ / 2018 = DNQ 2000 = DNQ / 2019 = DNQ 2001 = 1st round loss / 2020 = 2nd round loss 2002 = 1st round loss / 2021 = DNQ Rebuilds take time. Go look at the histories of teams like Colorado, Tampa, Carolina, Florida, NYI, Chicago, etc., etc. (basically, any team outside of Boston) and then report back to this thread. Having said that, I do agree with you that heads will need to roll if the Canucks miss the playoffs this year. I also believe that a coaching change is sorely needed. I would bring in Claude Julien if it was up to me.
  21. I’m just baffled as to how flat and weak we’ve looked. I’ve also been confused as to some of Green’s decisions (ie his treatment of Podkolzin and Garland, his inflexibility, his lack of creativity and predictable offense, etc.).
  22. I say we use Calgary and Florida as examples. Darryl Sutter and Joel Quennville turned both of their respective teams around in a significant way. Elite coaches......they’ll do that. We’ve got to stop promoting successful AHL coaches. Go out there and get a proven winner. We have the players imo. We just need someone with a bigger vision and more creativity. Claude Julien is my choice. He’ll help turn this ship around.
  23. For the record, I do think we should keep Pettersson despite my hundreds of proposals suggesting that we move him. :-p. The guy that we absolutely should change is Travis Green as I believe his stubbornness and lack of creativity is mind boggling. Our three best forwards right now are Miller, Horvat, and Garland......so why not put them on a line together? Miller-Horvat-Garland Podkolzin-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Dickinson-Hoglander Like be creative and try something new instead of recycling the same old stale crap. Especially for the power play. PP1 Myers-Horvat-Chiasson OEL-Hughes Even if it’s something ridiculous, just give the opponents a different look. In the scenario above for instance, get OEL and Hughes to get pucks on net while our biggest and most physical players look for rebounds while getting their read ends in the goalies faces. Yeah? Something, anything, different! Look at what Darryl Sutter and Quenville have done for Calgary and Florida respectively. Bring in a proven winner that can turn this ship around. Stop trying to promote assistant coaches. Shell up the money and pay big bucks to proven winners like Claude Julien.
  24. If you were the GM, what move(s) would you make?
