Were these same people “confused” when we decided to proceed forward with Demko instead of Markstrom? Or when we acquired Nate Schmidt for a 3rd? I look forward to the “confused” reactions of many people when they see what our opening night roster looks like sometime in October 2022.

A few things: 1) Never EVER assume that you are smarter than an NHL GM or an entire front office. You are not. I am not, the poster next to me is not, no one on HF Canucks are, no one on 650 Sportsnet are, etc., etc. It's very likely that they are seeing something that none of us are, or that they are privy to certain information that we do not have access to......which leads me to my "speculative" next points. 2) It's entirely possible that management knows that Beagle is done and will be LTIRetired, and hence, giving us the $$$ needed to sign Pearson. 3) It's entirely possible that the Canucks have a plan in place as far as Eriksson goes (i.e. one year left after this + only 2 million in real dollars owed = tradeable contract and/or easy to coax into retirement. Bottom line = 6 million off the books). My message to you and my fellow Canucks fans is as follows: Before we pass judgement on this signing, lets at least see how the summer plays out. p.s. Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Podkolzin Hoglander-Gaudette-Virtanen OR Pearson-Gaudette-Virtanen OR Podkolzin-Gaudette-Virtanen = potentially decent 3rd line with Motte-Boyd-MacEwen (or Roussel) Looks to me like Benning is trying to create three lines that have a reasonable chance at producing consistent offence.

My guess is that the Canucks either have a plan in place for Loui, OR, they know definitively that Beagle will be LTIRetired.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson
Patel Bure replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That would be my guess as well. I’m curious as to how Benning is projecting the lines for next year? Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander OR Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Podkolzin-Gaudette-Virtanen OR Pearson-Gaudette-Virtanen In terms of potential for offense, One of Pearson or Podkolzin will likely be an upgrade over Roussel on that 3rd line spot and so that should give Gaudette and Virtanen a little more help. Will the Canucks re-sign Vesey? Another possibility is that the Canucks liked what they saw from Miller as a center during Petey’s absence, and so keeping Pearson would allow them to create three decent scoring lines? Hoglander-Miller-Boeser Roussel-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Podkolzin Motte-Gaudette-MacEwen (Beagle to Robidas Island) Boyd Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Schmidt Juolevi-Benn Demko Holtby -

Re - Eriksson. There just has to be. That, or management figured that Pearson is signable now that Beagle won’t be back (perhaps confirmed behind closed doors?). -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson

I won’t pass my final judgment on this until the end of the summer as I want to see how things play out cap wise first. My guess is that..... 1) Beagle will be LTIR next year 2) The Canucks have a plan in place for Eriksson. 3) Tryamkin will replace Edler 4) Boyd and Gaudette will be our 3rd and 4th line C’s (not necessarily in that order) 5) Benning expects someone to get claimed in the ED 6) Petey and Hughes will sign bridged Covid contracts (translation - for less money than we had originally expected). As far as Pearson goes, the presence of Pearson or Podkolzin on the 3rd line should give us an opportunity to roll out three decent scoring lines, and one of Podz Or Pearson should be able to step into the top 6 in case of injuries. -
Agreed with this but will the Canucks be able to afford Pearson? Demko (5 million), Pettersson, and Hughes won’t come cheap. Will we have the space? I don’t know if it will come down to this, but maybe the Canucks will move Motte at the deadline (1 million) for a pick so that they’ll be able to afford Pearson?

The Texas Rangers played the Blue Jays today in Texas and they (Texas) had full fans in attendance, most of whom were not wearing masks or physically distancing themselves. I don’t think there’s enough fish in the world to make Texans intelligent unfortunately.

It might be me against the world, but just remember.......I know Kung Fu. ;-) In all seriousness I do get what you’re saying and it’s also the reason why I wouldn’t make this deal myself (although the idea is extremely tempting). Sometimes, it’s just good to get arguments from the other side in order to re-enforce an existing opinion.
-
We can agree and disagree as to whether we should be going after Eichel or not (and FWIW, I probably wouldn’t make the Eichel deal for reasons stated in this thread by others), but you’re living in a fool’s paradise if you think the price tag for landing a young franchise center would be lower than what I suggested.

I probably still wouldn’t make the Eichel deal for many of the reasons stated in this thread (ie too big of a hit in terms of team chemistry and depth), but MAN, this idea does have me thinking and pondering. An Eichel/Pettersson combo would put us up there with the Oilers, Leafs, Lightning, Avs, and Pens in terms of superstar combos: -McDavid + Draisaitl -Matthews + Tavares + Marner + Reilly -Crosby + Malkin + Letang -Point + Stamkos + Hedman + Vasilevsky -Mackinnon + Raantanen + Landeskog + Makar -Eichel + Pettersson + Boeser + Hughes + Demko Eichel/Pettersson/Boeser/Hughes/Demko would put us in that tier. Not only that, but with all of our bad contracts off the books before the start of the 2022-2023 season, you’d likely create a scenario in which UFA’s might actually be willing to take slight discounts in order to play for us. For example, why does Hampus Lindholm say no to coming to Vancouver in the 2022 summer? What other good UFA’s would NOT look at Vancouver as a legit opportunity? Podkolzin-Eichel-Boeser Hoglander-Pettersson-Virtanen ###-###-### Motte-Boyd-Gaudette Lindholm-Schmidt Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-Myers Demko Dipietro Or as the guys on 650 Sportsnet might say........I’m not saying, but I’m just saying...

edit - proposal revised to swap Schmidt instead of Horvat [proposal] Schmidt + Miller + 1st and Rathbone for Jack Eichel, and what next season would look like Pure hypothetical, let’s say the above takes place. The Canucks also find a way to get rid of Eriksson (completely off the books) while signing Larsson. Roussel-Eichel-Boeser Hoglander-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Podkolzin Motte-Beagle-Highmore Hughes-Larsson Edler-Hamonic Juolevi-Myers Demko ##### How would this look?

Buffalo laughs, farts in the receiver, and hangs up the phone.

Pettersson and Hughes by themselves would probably get you close to getting Eichel and Dahlin. Hughes is better than Dahlin right now anyways. Why not go: Horvat + Miller + 1st + Rathbone for Eichel? Next Season: Hoglander-Eichel-Boeser Podkolzin-Pettersson-Virtanen Roussel-Boyd-Gaudette Hawylruk-Beagle-MacEwen Eriksson Schmidt-Myers Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-Benn Chatfield Demko Holtby A year later, with Eriksson, Beagle, and Roussel off the books, the Canucks will be able to attract some major UFA’s.

[proposa] The Vancouver Canucks and Jeff Skinner
Patel Bure replied to Patel Bure's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sorry guys this proposal of mine was crap. :-( -
[proposa] The Vancouver Canucks and Jeff Skinner While it’s no secret that Jeff Skinner has arguably the worst contract in the NHL right now, a closer inspection of his situation in Buffalo would reveal that he’s being grossly misused. Make no mistake about it. Skinner’s sharp decline isn’t age related (like a Patrick Marleau), or because the game changed on him (like a Milan Lucic), or because he doesn’t care (like a Matt Duchene), but rather, he’s simply being grossly misused. Common sense would dictate that you should play Skinner with Eichel, Reinhart, or the now departed Eric Staal, but the coach, in his eternal genius, has Skinner playing with guys like Curtis Lazar and other forms of poo. Acquiring Skinner might be a good opportunity for the Canucks to unload some bad contracts in the off-season to Buffalo such as Eriksson, Beagle, and Roussel. Buffalo takes on 12 million of our crap because that crap will be off the books in 2022. The Canucks take on Skinner under the assumption that he returns to his prolific goal scoring ways....the risk being that he doesn’t, and we end up getting an uglier version of Loui Eriksson at a worse term and cap hit. Personally, I don’t think Skinner would end up like Eriksson given that we’d play him with either Pettersson or Horvat, but there’s always the risk. I think it’s a risk worth taking. Next season top 6. Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Skinner-Horvat-Hoglander/Podkolzin
