  1. I wasn’t suggesting that we do this mid season........was suggesting after the season has ended.
  2. You're more than welcome to share what you think Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko will command in a post-covid NHL world. Pre-covid, I think Petey would have been a lock for 9 million.
  3. [proposal] Demko isn't going to come cheap this off-season. Virtanen as a sweetener to move Eriksson? Maybe I'm wrong for thinking this, but Demko has joined the Pettersson and Hughes conversation in terms of big RFA Canuck signings this off-season. Demko should be able to command between 5.5-6 million dollars. So - between, Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko, we could be looking at the following contracts: Pettersson: $8,460,250 (Sebastian Aho = comparable) Hughes: $8,000,000 (Thomas Chabot = comparable) Demko: $6 million (Jordan Binnington = comparable). So, how will this work? -Eriksson + Virtanen for a 3rd in the off-season would save us $8.550 million (Pettersson) -Edler and Benn = 8 million in savings (Hughes) -Sutter and Baertschi = close to 8 million in savings (Demko + some change left over for our other RFA upgrades, etc.). -Pearson money (plus) goes to Tryamkin -Holtby or Roussel lost in the Expansion draft? Will we have anything else left for other signings? Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Roussel-Gaudette-MacEwen Motte-Beagle-Hawylruk Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Schmidt Juolevi-??? Demko Holtby or Dipietro Seems very underwhelming to me, but is that all we're going to be able to afford given the emergence of Demko (and the salary that he'll likely command?)
  4. I think it would have been possible to give Demko the start tonight (most important game of the season - putting our best foot forward) AND allowing Demko to rest (I.e. starting Holtby on Monday against Winnipeg), but Greener sees it differently I guess. Oh well. Go Nucks!
  5. Start Demko tomorrow. Play Holtby in the first game back against Winnipeg.
  6. After having watched him play in the bubble, I became sold on the fact that we had the next Carey Price on our hands. While I realized the possibility of him just being on a hot streak much like Matt Murray or Jordan Binnington, watching his technique sold me on the fact that he was for real. And unlike the aforementioned goalies, Demko didn’t have the luxury of being protected by a superstar team. Will be interesting to see what Demko gets in the off-season.
  7. Very low risk grab with the potential to pan out in a nice modest way. Vesey isn’t that far removed from 17-18 goal seasons and he’s still fairly young (27). Playing in Buffalo tends to kill anyone’s spirit while Toronto is very deep up front and so it’s possible that Vesey was buried (similar to JT Miller in Tampa). I think it’s a great grab by Benning and I’m interested to see if it pans out.
  8. My impression of him is that it’s both.
  9. JD Burke, along with certain regulars at HF Canucks such as MS, Y2KCanucks, and tantalum have been awfully quiet lately. I wonder why?
  10. This may be true but Friedman does like to stir $&!# and it often does come at the Canucks’ expense (attempts anyways).
  11. The Canucks literally are one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the past ten games. Being outplayed or not, they are finding ways to win. Much to the chagrin of you and the other “Canucks fans” at HF, there is more to winning games than advanced stats. These are very dark times for HF Canucks as the Canucks creep closer to being a part of relevant playoff discussion. The next two games against Montreal could very well determine our fate.
  12. The Blackhawks are apparently willing to take on other teams’ bad contracts. Maybe they’d be willing to take on Eriksson?
  13. If the Canucks win their next three games, they re-enter the playoff conversation (albeit, barely). Edmonton will have to lose again to Calgary as well while going on a bit of a losing streak.
  14. Not a bad idea but I’d rather go with someone who has a proven track record. Gerard Gallant would be my clear cut choice.
  15. During that infamous Summer of 2016, I wanted the Canucks to go hard after both David Backes and Keith Yandle and bring them both in at the same time. :-o
  16. Not only that but at great tax advantaged cap hits as well. People talk about how Colorado could be the next power house but Carolina isn’t that far behind imo (if they are even behind).
  17. Realistically, 1) How much would Hamilton cost? (and in answering this question, please bare in mind the following: Why would Hamilton leave a superior Carolina team to come to a Vancouver team, and city, that pays MUCH higher taxes and has a MUCH higher cost of living than Carolina?). 2) For some of the posters above, there's no way Carolina is trading Pesce unless it's a conversation involving Pettersson, Hughes, or Horvat. It's just not realistic. Although Dougie Hamilton is a far sexier option than a guy like Adam Larsson per se, Larsson is still a top pairing dman and wouldn't break the bank. Furthermore, he would fit our needs better (i.e. defensive defensemen). A guy like Adam Larsson would allow us to keep our internal cap intact while bringing in a guy like Hamilton might have a "Tavares-like" effect (i.e. no one on our team "buys in" from a contract standpoint since Hamilton will have been paid major coinage).
  18. At the time, I saw Gardiner as a guy who would be a really good bottom pairing guy that could easily step into a Top 4 role in case of injuries. At the time, I always felt that 1-2 key injuries to our defense always made us collapse and I felt that guys like Gardiner and Myers would serve as insurance policies. Edler-Stecher Hughes-Tanev Gardiner-Myers Was what I had in mind at the time if I recall correctly. I May have even had Gardiner/Myers and Hughes/Tanev switched up as I felt that Hughes might have needed more time to acclimate to the NHL.
  19. Unfortunately, I’ll have to admit that I wanted him as well. Back in 2019 when we signed Myers, my hope was that we’d sign both Gardiner and Myers so that we’d basically have six top four pairing quality dmen (I drew a comparison to our 2011 dman set up).
  20. I’ll have to admit - as much as it would suck to give up two 1st in my scenario for Debrusk+ and Bennett+ (although I doubt that Edler would land a 1st going the other way), this line-up from above is pretty damn good. I don’t think Roussel would get claimed but maybe someone like him could be moved to clear cap since he’d be in the final year of his contract?
  21. Yep you nailed it. I figured Sam Bennett was someone that fit the above description but I’m not entirely sure.
  22. I had a terrible intrusive thought once. It was last year in February when the Canucks lost to the Flames 6-2 at Rogers. After the Flames scored their 6th goal, a Flames fan beside me cheered and I thought to myself, “how great would it be if I had a baseball bat in my hand so that I could swing at his head and then take a piss on him afterwards?”
  23. That’s interesting about Myers (Re - advanced stats with QH and AE). Wasn’t aware of that.
