  1. Schmidt is infinitely better if deployed in the correct manner. My hope is that Gallant replaces Green sooner than later so that we can see this happen.
  2. No brainer to protect Schmidt over Myers.
  3. Trade Sutter, Pearson, Edler, and one of Hamonic or Benn at the deadline if we’re out of contention. Keep everyone else. Our team is primed and ready for a solid push forward starting in October 2022......which has been the plan for the last few years.
  4. I think the team has Podkolzin slated to be Pearson’s replacement by the looks of things.
  5. Tell me I'm wrong: Pettersson-Horvat-Boeser = Sedin-Sedin-Burrows / Naslund-Morrison-Bertuzzi. That, combined with one of Hughes or Schmidt back there (in response to Erhoff or Jovanovski) would make our top line just as dominant as WCE in its prime or Sedins/Burrows from 2011 would it not? Pettersson-Horvat-Boeser Hoglander-Miller-Virtanen Pearson-Sutter-Gaudette Roussel-Beagle-Hawlryuk (sic). Edler-Schmidt. (I'd even be tempted to use Hughes-Schmidt here if they could reign it in defensively). Hughes-Hamonic Benn-Myers Demko Holtby
  6. That's a really interesting Top 6 actually. Would be interested to see how that worked out.
  7. Pearson - I agree he'll likely be gone by the end of the season due to our cap constraints. Virtanen - I don't want to trade the guy while his value is so low. I would hang onto Jake just incase there's something there and then parts ways with him when he becomes a UFA if he hasn't panned out (or sign him to 3rd line money).
  8. Hoglander-Miller-Boeser Podkolzin-Pettersson-Gaudette Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-Sutter
  9. I’m not sure why Green doesn’t like him as much as I do. I love MacEwen. He’s fast, finishes checks, and has some untapped offensive potential there in my opinion. My guess is that Green doesn’t like his defensive instincts and defensive play very much but I don’t think it’s to a point of liability.
  10. You’re more than welcome to share your own ideas.
  11. A few weeks ago, I would have agreed with you completely. Currently however, I think Gaudette’s play has noticeably improved now that he’s at his regular weight with his regular diet (he had some stomach/digestive problems in the off season apparently....or something like that). Although I’ve never liked Gaudette as a center (ie bad at face offs, below average defensively), I think playing the wing really brings out his better qualities (shooting, offensive instincts), and he’s starting to adjust to the wing position a lot better now. To me, Gaudette has looked a lot better lately and I’m interested to see what he can do. He’s getting a lot of good looks at the net and I’m confident that more of those chances will start to convert.
  12. I had mentioned this idea a few months back but I’m wondering if an “all eggs in one basket” approach could work? Pettersson-Horvat-Boeser Hoglander-Miller-Virtanen Now that we know that Miller can play center, you could use just use him with Hoglander and Virtanen on a second line. I liked @Elias Petterson’s idea from above as well (same as mine about but keep Boeser with the Miller line and put JV with BoHo and Petey).
  13. Possibly later in the year...... Hoglander-Miller-Boeser Podkolzin-Pettersson-Gaudette Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-Sutter
  14. Great points. I’m just wondering if Petey would have it in him to bring out the best in MacEwen and Gaudette. Assuming that our current top 6 (with Petey injury) remains in tact, then MacEwen and Gaudette are likely the guys with the most offensive potential out of the rest of the guys. Gaudette is starting to play better with his diet returning to normal + him transitioning to his better suited winged position. And while MacEwen has struggled at times this year, he does have some size, speed, and offensive instincts that’s seemingly waiting to be unleashed. A line of MacEwen-Pettersson-Gaudette likely wouldn’t get attention from the top pairings/shut down lines of other teams and so this could serve as a great opportunity for Pettersson to “bring out the best” in Gaudette and MacEwen.....and if that happened, we would have three solid lines just like most of the top teams in the league do.
  15. Line combinations when Pettersson returns? Our current line configuration is working like a charm and so it would be a little silly if we reverted back to the way things were when Pettersson comes back.....right? So how would we go about things? Hoglander-Miller-Boeser MacEwen-Pettersson-Gaudette Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen Roussel-Beagle-Sutter I put MacEwen with Petey here because MacEwen has size, speed, and traces of untapped offensive potential in my opinion. I’d be willing to give this a look. If it bombs however, then switch MacEwen and Sutter.
  16. I can’t stress as to just how bad a move trading Motte for a 2nd would be. Motte is a core player as far as I’m concerned. He’s the exact type of guy you want on your bottom 6. ps - BTW - the “Canucks fans” on HF damn near rioted when we traded Thomas Vanek for Tyler Motte.
  17. If the Canucks are far out of playoff contention at the deadline, the only guys I move are Pearson, Edler, Sutter, and one of Hamonic or Benn. Motte and Schmidt stay.
  18. Good points but I still think there’s a danger in “giving up” on Jake and then trading him for a diaharrea 3rd line player with no upside. My suggestion in dealing with the Virtanen situation is to hold onto him. If the guy continues to be inconsistent, then let him walk when he becomes a UFA in 1.5 years. If he ends up “figuring it out” however, then we’ve got a great young asset that could play well above and beyond the 3rd line if need be. I still have hope for Jake.
  19. I think you're reading way too much into things on a slow day.
  20. The problem if you move Jake right now, is that you'll likely get a player that doesn't have near his upside. Trading Jake right now would likely land you a "safe" third line guy that couldn't play above that. Since I doubt that we'll be able to afford Pearson next season, I think it's wise that we hang onto a guy (Jake) that could fill in on the top 6 incase of injuries. Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Virtanen-#####-Gaudette The other thing with Virtanen is that he can play both wings. I'm interested to see how Jake does with a good center. Look how he's playing with Horvat. Look how he played with Pettersson last season. Lets be honest - producing offence playing alongside Beagle and Sutter (sub-par playmakers) isn't exactly easy. A new center + possibly even a new coach = might have good things in store for Jake. Jake may or may not "get it" (in which case, we let him walk as a UFA the season after next), but I'd hate to trade such a high potential player for scraps.
