  1. Our window will start in October of 2022.
  2. Couldn’t have said it better my friend.
  3. It could be covid fatigue related to be honest. These guys appear to be quite social. Ditto for JT Miller and Nate Schmidt, and these guys haven't looked like their usual selves either. I'm not going to say that this IS "covid fatigue" related, but I wouldn't rule it out either. Not all of us have the focus of a Bo Horvat or Jonathan Toews.
  4. With regards to the poor performances of our young core, which players do you have in mind? -Pettersson started off slow but has looked good as of late. -Horvat had played well -Boeser looks like he did two years ago -Hughes’ defensive game hasn’t looked that great but that was never his strong suit....and he still looks great offensively. -Juolevi and Hoglander look like legit NHLers and have really impressed. -Demko has been solid given his lack of defensive help. While MacEwen has been average, Virtanen and Gaudette have struggled unfortunately. For the most part though, I think our young guys have been pretty good? Miller and Schmidt are the two guys I was expecting a LOT more out of. Schmidt has been decent, but nowhere near the star player that he’s capable of being.
  5. -Pearson for a 2nd is doable. -Bruins say no to Virtanen for Debrusk -Trade Eriksson after July 1st when he only has a year left on his contract. Trade him via the Marc Staal deal (2nd rounder as a sweetener).
  6. 1) Trade Edler, Pearson, Sutter, and Benn at the deadline for picks if feasible, and if we are far out of playoff contention at that time. 2) Sign Adam Larsson on the 1st day of UFA 3) Extend Pettersson and Hughes 4) Sign Tryamkin 5) A 2nd round pick as a sweetener to move Eriksson after July 1st (a.k.a. "The Marc Staal deal.") 6) Let go of Green and hire Gerard Gallant 5) Stay the course. I know it's tough for many fans to digest right now, but this team is still being built for its *real* window of opportunity (the 2022-2023 season......any if you don't believe me, take a look at all of the 'bad-transitional' contracts that will be off the books prior to October 1st 2022......it was designed this way for a reason). The Canucks biggest needs are: 1) A top pairing stay-at-home defensemen that can still move the puck reasonably well (i.e. a modern day version of a stay-at-home dman). Adam Larsson. 2) A new 3rd line center that can take defensive responsibilities off of Horvat AND be good enough to bring out the offensive skills of his linemates. Sutter, Gaudette, and Beagle cannot do this and likely never will be able to. [Open to suggestions] 2021-2022: Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Roussel-#####-Virtanen (Keep JV. Lets see how JV performs under a new coach and in a post-covid "back to clubbing and enjoying life" world) Motte-Beagle-MacEwen Gaudette (Gaudette replaces Beagle as the 4th line C a year later) Hughes-Larsson Tryamkin-Schmidt Juolevi-Myers Demko Holtby
  7. Pettersson + Hughes + Miller for Eichel + Dahlin + Reinhart Pearson-Eichel-Boeser Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Roussel-Reinhart-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-MacEwen Dahlin-Schmidt Edler-Myers Juolevi-Benn Demko Holtby
  8. Arizona will want more for OEL. While I was originally on board with getting OEL (before we picked up Schmidt), I think the Canucks are more in need of a 'defensive defensemen'. Someone like Adam Larsson, Hampus Lindholm (trade for and extend after July 1st 2021), or an Erik Cernak type guy.
  9. Reinhart would be great but I think the asking price would be too high. Pettersson + Hughes + Miller for Eichel + Dahlin + Reinhart. :-p. (I'm kidding) Pearson-Eichel-Boeser Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Roussel-Reinhart-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-Gaudette Dahlin-Schmidt Edler-Myers Juolevi-Benn Demko Holtby
  10. Sounds to me like you're describing Erik Cernak. To a lesser extent, a returning Nikita Tryamkin could be that guy. While a guy like Hampus Lindholm isn't aggressive per say, he'd be a good 'ying to the yang' of the offensive minded Nate Schmidt. Lindholm is a top pairing calibre guy that is defensive minded.
  11. This x 100. Well done Mr. McGill. Having said that, I'm not sure if Montour interests me a whole lot. The Canucks need more of a modern day 'stay at home' type guy. A legitimate Tanev replacement that could possibly even be an Edler/Tanev hybrid replacement if said dman is capable of playing on a top pairing. Guys like Adam Larsson, Hampus Lindholm, and Erik Cernak interest me a lot more. Larsson can be had as a UFA at season's end, and won't break the bank like a Dougie Hamilton might. After July 1st, you could trade for and sign Lindholm (using the Montour logic from above). Tampa is also looking to clear cap space and so using our 2021 1st lottery for Cernak might be of mutual interest to both teams (i.e. Tampa reduces cap space + gets a potential game changer, while the Canucks get a solid young asset that fills a huge organizational need even if his ceiling is significantly lower than a lottery pick).
  12. I mentioned this earlier but I honestly wonder if Buffalo would be interested in a Pettersson + Hughes + ??? For Eichel + Dahlin swap. As you’ve mentioned, Eichel is clearly a superior player to Pettersson, and while Hughes is better offensively than Dahlin (as of now), Dahlin is the stronger two way dman. Given Dahlin’s skill set, you could play him with Nate Schmidt and form a power pairing (whereas a Hughes-Schmidt pairing wouldn’t work since it would be too much of a liability defensively).
  13. Here’s what Pettersson + Hughes for Eichel + Dahlin would look like. Miller-Eichel-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander Roussel-Sutter-Gaudette Motte-Beagle-Virtanen Dahlin-Schmidt Edler-Myers Juolevi-Benn Demko Holtby
  14. Not necessarily clubbing per se, but just getting back to a post Covid world might go a long ways for him. For all of Jake’s warts, the guy was on pace to scoring 20 goals last season, clubbing or not. The Covid life and Covid fatigue is an actual thing and people react differently to it. My guess is that more sociable people are likely to be affected by it more intensely. This might explain why guys like Virtanen, Miller, and even Nate Schmidt aren’t playing up to their potential.
  15. I didn’t say or imply otherwise. I only put Petey and Boeser together in my suggested line combos so that both lines would be balanced. Eichel would be good enough to carry Hogz and Podz whereas Petey likely wouldn’t.
  16. There are other factors to consider. It was only a year ago that Virtanen was on pace for 20 goals getting 3rd line minutes. So what happened? Did the guy forget how to play hockey all of a sudden? What about JT Miller? Sure his point totals are similar to what they were last season but anyone can tell you that he hasn’t looked the same. Maybe “Covid fatigue” affects everyone differently? Guys like Virtanen and Miller are quite “social” and so perhaps the Covid lifestyle has had a greater effect on them than most? I know Virtanen has been the drizzling $&!#s over the past 12 months, but I’d be interested to see how he performs in a post Covid world with a new coach.
  17. In a universe where he’d be carried by great linemates and could be sheltered somewhat. Similar to Mario Lemieux’s Rob Brown or Joe Thornton’s Jonathan Cheechoo? Speaking of Virtanen, then would be the dark side in trading for Eichel. You’d be sacrificing depth for top end talent. Hence - Virtanen likely would slide into our top 6 given what we’d likely have to give up in order to get Eichel.
  18. Agreed. Like I said, I probably wouldn’t trade for Eichel but it has crossed my mind. Eichel and Pettersson as a one two punch at center with Hughes and Schmidt quarterbacking two separate defensive pairings would attract a LOT of UFA attention.
  19. Oh definitely. Was just trying to figure out a way to balance those lines. Hence, me keeping Pettersson and Boeser together.
  20. [proposal] Eichel to Vancouver - “thinking out loud.” Disclaimer: I don’t think Eichel will be traded to Vancouver nor do I necessarily recommend it (I’m split in two minds but it would likely be a moot point anyways). Anyways..... 1) If Horvat + Miller + 2021 1st was able to get you Eichel. 2) The Canucks long term plan for the top 6 and their top 4 D revolves around.... Virtanen-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Eichel-Podkolzin Hughes-#### #####-Schmidt (Im assuming that we wouldn’t be able to keep Pearson due to the cap). A) Do you think we’d have a strong enough foundation to build a cup winning team around? B-) Would a trade like this make us better or worse off in the long run?
  21. Laine has more upside potential and overall talent than Boeser. Having said that, I completely agree with you. I was just spitballing ideas with respect to this thread.
  22. Boeser+ for Laine Horvat + Podkolzin + 1st for Eichel Laine-Eichel-Hoglander Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen ####-Schmidt Hughes-#####
