  1. Not sure if the Canucks would be able to afford both Edler and Larsson given the extensions we’ll need to give Petey and Hughes.
  2. Miller had Covid and didn’t have a full training camp if I recall correctly. It’s entirely possible that Miller has lingering effects from both of those factors. Despite his brain farts on defense this season, his PPG pace is still on par with his production from last year. 16 games have been played and 8 of those were against two teams that are very likely top 8 calibre teams in the league. The other 3 games was against the Sens whom we easily dismantled. The other 5 games was against middle of the road teams in Calgary, Winnipeg, and Edmonton (whom we are 2-3 against). Let’s see a bigger sample size against Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg before jumping to any conclusions. These next four games against Calgary should be very revealing in terms of where we are really at.
  3. The Canucks aren’t playing disinterested. They are playing in a very tough division (sans Ottawa) and had a difficult schedule to begin the season in which practice time was limited. The guys perpetuating this “Canucks are disinterested due to losing players,” myth are the wankers over at the athletic along with some other “media rats” in our city (Thomas Drance, JD Burke, $&!#iar Shah, etc.). HF Canucks takes what these guys say at gospel and then perpetuate their toxicity on social media.
  4. My understanding is that the Canucks hold Tree’s rights until July 1st 2022 but can sign him to any kind of deal they want to. Tree does look like he’s interested in coming back here. At least that is my impression. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/nyet-yet-canucks-nikita-tryamkin-is-staying-in-russia
  5. Fair enough point about Edler. Tryamkin has intentions of coming back. He didn’t sign this off season due to limited cap space + Covid situation would have meant accepting unfavorable term and money.
  6. 2021 1st as a starting point (I’m assuming that this year will be a non-playoff year) + ???
  7. 650 sports net = a bunch of kids in their 20’s and early 30’s that believe they are smarter than GM’s in this league that dare to place importance on qualities other than just advanced stats. Bring back Team 1040 already. :-(
  8. 1) Miller still has a PPG despite his struggles this season. 2) Let’s not forget about the fact that Miller may have had Covid about a month or so ago and so he might be experiencing some lingering effects. He missed a part of camp if I remember correctly.
  9. To Nashville: Gaudette + Virtanen + Rathbone To Canucks: Cousins + Sissons
  10. [proposal] Sign and Trade for Hampus Lindholm after July 1st if it works cap-wise: The Canucks definitely need another long term top pairing “defensive defenseman” in their line-up to replace Edler when he leaves. Hence - me pondering the idea of the Canucks trading for Hampus Lindholm after July 1st of this year, and doing a sign/trade arrangement similar to what they did with Brandon Sutter back in 2015 (ie trade for him + sign him well in advance before he became a UFA). Now obviously - the Canucks could just try and wait until July 1st 2022 to sign Hampus Lindholm, but.... 1) every other team will want a crack at Lindholm. 2) The Canucks would risk going another season (2021-2022) without having a top elite shut down dman (Edler = one year older). Basically - the Canucks do this deal for the following reasons: 1) Be proactive in securing a long term top defensive defenseman asset. 2) Ensure that they be a competitive team next season, and give faith to the boys that they are serious about winning NOW (I get the sense that some guys in the lockerroom are a little confused about management’s direction given that they let Markstrom, Toffoli, and Tanev walk, and so you don’t want that mindset pouring over into the following season). Anaheim does this because.... 1) They secure some solid assets for Lindholm instead of losing him for absolutely nothing: Canucks 2021-2022 roster: (please note, I don’t know if this would work from a cap perspective). Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Horvat-Podkolzin Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-MacEwen Lindholm-Schmidt Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-Myers Demko Dipietro or Cheap Vet Cliffnotes: 1) Trade Pearson for a draft pick (2nd?) at the deadline if the Canucks are out of contention: 2) Trade Edler for a 1st at the deadline (if out of contention) explaining to Edler that we don’t intend to bring him back the following season which then promote Edler to waive his NTC. 3) Canucks do not re-sign Benn, Sutter, Baertschi, Pearson (gone), Edler (gone), and also lose Holtby to the expansion draft. 4) The Canucks use a 2nd or even a first (2nd from Pearson deal or 1st from Edler deal) to get Eriksson off the books. 5) The Canucks use their own 2021 1st at the draft to sign and secure Hampus Lindholm (ie immediate sign and trade). Now obviously - guys like Virtanen and Gaudette will likely be gone well before July 1st but I’ve added them in my roster for the scope and purpose of this thread (illustrative purposes).
  11. I don't think Gaudette, by himself, will fetch us much other than a bucket of chicken #GeorgeCostanza I'd be more interested in seeing what a heavier package revolving around ALL of Gaudette, Virtanen, and Juolevi could land us. Maybe a guy like Hampus Lindholm from Anaheim? (we'd likely have to add in a high pick to that package as well). Maybe we could do a deal like this after July 1st where we trade for Lindholm and then extend him right away (just as we did with Sutter). p.s. - I wouldn't listen to Friedman much. Don't be mistaken by his "rational" and "objective" appearance. This guy wants the Canucks to fall flat on their face just as much as guys like Cherry and McLean do/did. EF just hides it much better. Our only real friend and well-wisher out east is Jim Hughson.
  12. Perhaps “energy” line was not the most accurate term to use given Gaudette’s presence in that hypothetical, but Motte and MacEwen definitely both play and “energy” game. Furthermore, there are slight elements of offensive skill in both Motte and MacEwen’s games and so that’s why I like the idea of Gaudette possibly playing with them. While Gaudette isn’t the best playmaker out there, he is better at utilizing his teammates than Beagle and Sutter (who will be off the books in 1-2 years anyways). Hence - my assertion that Gaudette’s presence in a 4th line role with Motte and MacEwen would likely make for a pretty decent scoring line at that level while still providing some degree of energy (Motte + MacEwen).
  13. I’m not sure if I’d go that far. He’s not Erik Gudbranson. Myers is a legit #4 dman, but guys earning 6 million need to be top calibre and so we’d likely be hard pressed in getting Seattle to take him off our hands.
  14. Any conversation with Laine starts with Petey’s BFF Boeser. I can’t see it happening. An Pearson + Virtanen + 2021 1st = Columbus’ GM farting into the receiver and hanging up the phone.
  15. He was going to sign with us this year but didn’t due to the lack of cap space.
  16. That’s the point I was getting at: Eriksson, after July 1st, will only have one year left on his contract. Similar to when the Rangers moved Marc Staal to Detroit.
  17. 1) With only one year left on his contract after July 1st, along with only 2 million in real dollars being owed, the Marc Staal trade becomes an extremely valid comparison (ie Staal, 5.7 million cap hit with one year left, got moved to Detroit with a 2nd round sweetener). 2) As @kanucks25 pointed out above, Myers can definitely be exposed on ED day. If the Canucks can incentivize Seattle to take select Myers, and if the Canucks can move Eriksson using Marc Staal as a comparable (2nd as a sweetener), then that’s 12 million off our books. We could not only re-up Petey and Hughes, but could possibly go after a legit top dman such as Dougie Hamilton.
  18. Canucks might need Holtby more than Myers given that Dipietro might need another year in the minors (along with Demko possibly needing one more year to really solidly himself as a top #1).
  19. I was under the impression that Myers could be exposed AND claimed in this ED. Unless I’m wrong?
  20. He did. He just didn’t let anyone else know about it while he floated. #ErikssonModel
  21. Yes that is correct. What I'm trying to do is outweigh the pros and cons of Myers being selected by Seattle.
  22. Tyler Myers and the Expansion Draft: Although Tyler Myers is a semi-decent #4 dman that gives the Canucks depth in its weakest organizational position (right side D), a strong argument can be made for exposing Myers at the Expansion Draft, and possibly even incentivizing Seattle to take him. Given Myers’ age, it’s entirely possible that we’ve already gotten the best years out of Myers and that 6 million in freed up cap space could be better served elsewhere. With the Canucks needing money to sign Petey and Hughes, along with the fact that the aging Edler likely won’t be back, the Canucks could use this opportunity to ditch Myers and go after someone better (Dougie Hamilton?). Another thing to keep in mind is Loui Eriksson. Although Eriksson will still have one year left on his deal after this season, he will only be owed two million in real dollars. The Canucks could use this opportunity to move Eriksson a la “The Marc Staal” deal. The ultimate point I’m making is this: If the Canucks are interested in being a highly competitive hockey team for 2021-2022, it might be possible and realistic for them to get rid of both Myers and Eriksson, and using that freed up 12 million to invest in better assets while also having enough money to re-up Petey and Hughes. On the flip side, as it relates to Myers, there’s no guarantee that the Canucks would be able to replace the departed Myers with a high calibre dman. We might need Myers after all. Edler will likely be gone next season and could likely be replaced by Tryamkin. As much as I love Tryamkin, he’s no Alex Edler and our defense is quite weak as is. Even with Myers and no Edler in the line-up, our defense could be quite weak: Schmidt-Myers Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-??? I don’t even want to imagine what that defense would look like *without* Myers. Ideally, we could have a long term set up where we would have something such as..... ????-Schmidt Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-Myers But my concern is that Myers’ contract beyond this season will really start to become an anchor. The problem however, is that if the Canucks were to “incentivize” Seattle to take Myers, there’s no guarantee that we’d be able to convince them. In other words, if the Canucks were to “go big” and sign a guy like Dougie Hamilton on July 1st, there’s no guarantee that we’d be able to move Myers at the expansion draft.......unless I’m missing something?
