  1. If Miller and Horvat can land us Filip Chytl, Braden Schneider, and Noah Dobson in independent deals (plus 1-2 added draft picks), then I think it would be a big win for our future.
  2. Kesler was heart and soul as well until he publicly requested a trade and lowered his trade value. We better not do that with Miller.
  3. Personally, I would add Hughes, Boeser, Rathbone, Klimovich, Demko, and Dipietro to this list of keepers. OEL and Myers as well due to their contracts. Basically, I would just focus on Horvat and Miller for now.
  4. 1) Horvat and Miller have very high value right now. 2) It’s unlikely that either guy re-signs here after July 1st 2023. 3) This season has proven that the Canucks are not in “win now” mode and should be thinking about replenishing their cupboards instead. Both Horvat and Miller would land you a 1st and/or elite prospects in independent deals. Figuring this out is actually pretty straightforward.
  5. I guess I do owe an apology for attempting to be supportive of our prospect at the time. :-/
  6. 1) Horvat to NYR for B Schneider, Chytil, and a conditional 1st. 2) Miller and Hamonic to NYI for Dobson, Holmstrom, a 1st, and a cap dump in order to make the deal work from a cap perspective.
  7. Although most hockey pundits had us missing the playoffs, their consensus analysis had us missing the playoffs for all of the wrong reasons: They predicted that.... 1) OEL would continue to be a train wreck defensively 2) OEL-Myers would get caved in. 3) We would get caved in 5 on 5, and hemmed in our defensive zone 4) Our PP would be the only thing keeping us in most games 5) Demko would have to stand on his head for us to have a chance of winning 6) Our Pk would be sub-par So far, only #6 has come true, although none of us knew that our PK would be THAT bad without Sutter and Motte. #5 has been true at times, but not to the extent that most predicted. Instead, it was the mysterious disappearance of Pettersson and Brock that did us in. People can point to system all they want, but Petey and Brock were still able to thrive in Green’s systems all this time leading up to this season. Horvat has struggled this year as well although he still does a good job of taking on the toughest match ups. If Petey and Brock had played like they were expected to, we’d be a #4 seed right now in the division. We’d likely have finished 7th or 8th in the Conference with a 1st round loss.
  8. @Ajax-, I hope you do realize at some point that I wasn’t the guy who pissed in your cornflakes. :-o
  9. We could do that, but potentially losing Miller and/or Horvat for free on July 1st 2023 would be an absolute killer.
  10. I think with last year, the Canucks got a free pass because it was supposed to be our 2007-2008 season. Good players wanted to sign with us (Toffoli, Mike Hoffman), but our “bad” transitional contracts had finally caught up to us and so we would have to make do with Beagle, Roussel, and Player Name for another year (I had a sneaking suspicion that we would use our 1st as a sweetener to move those guys in the 2021 off season so that this season would be the equivalent of our 2008-2009). Even with that being said, I do agree that the addition of guys like Schmidt and Hamonic should have kept us on similar pace to our 19-20 season.
  11. I’d keep Boeser in my current plan due to his RFA status. Horvat and Miller however, I stand behind my decision. Why? Because I can’t see either guy being here beyond July 1st 2023 and given the way we’ve played this year, I’m not sure if we will be competitive both this season and next season. I love Horvat and Miller, but we have to start thinking about our future and replenishing the cupboards. Maybe in your world, trading Tanner Pearson lands us Mason MacTavish (as you suggested in another thread) but reality is different.
  12. To be honest, I never get hung up on the terms ‘rebuild’ and ‘retool’. For me, a rebuild is when you focus on changing the core of the team while a ‘retool’ is when you commit to winning with most of your current core players but simply change some pieces as you get younger (and so by that definition, you’d be correct that my above outline would fall more under the ‘retool’ definition). I love Horvat and Miller but these guys need to win now, and I can’t see either guy staying here beyond July 1st 2023. Both of these guys have tremendous value right now and should be able to fetch us 1st rounders and/or elite prospects. Boeser won’t fetch you much right now. I also like the idea of keeping Boeser because we can potentially sign him long term which could then get Petey to do the same once his RFA contract expires. Hopefully by then, Green will be long gone and a new system will be in place which will be particularly conducive towards Petey and Brock’s games.
  13. Yes, I would support a rebuild, but not in the way that many others would. My suggestion would be to keep everyone *except* Horvat and Miller. 1) Horvat and Miller should be moved for Braden Schneider+ and Cole Sillinger+..and then we go from there. 2) Qualify Boeser at the end of the season 3) Change the coach and the GM (if things get toxic with the fanbase) and implement a new system. Future: Podkolzin-Pettersson-Garland Pearson-Sillinger-Boeser Dickinson-####-Klimovich ####-####-Lockwood Hughes-Schneider OEL-Myers Rathbone-Poolman Demko Dipietro
  14. Boeser won’t fetch you anything near that right now. Teams are only calling on Boeser right now because they want to buy low on him. Horvat and Miller are the only guys that will fetch you 1st rounders and/or elite prospects. -One of Horvat or Miller should be traded to NYR for Braden Schneider++ -One of Horvat or Miller to Columbus for Cole Sillinger++
  15. I wouldn’t either normally but I can’t see him staying here after July 1st 2023 if the Canucks don’t look like a team that will be trending upwards. This year was supposed to be our coming out party and instead, it’s turned into Benning’s version of 1997-98.
  16. I’m not so sure. It’s every young aspiring Canadian hockey players’ dream to win a cup. This year was supposed to be the Canucks’ coming out party and it hasn’t.....to be polite. I can’t see an in-prime Horvat wanting to take a risk of being a part of bad teams again. Move Horvat and Miller for 1sts and prospects and recoup all of the 1sts and prospects that were lost in the Toffoli, OEL, and Miller deals, and move forward with the next core that would consist of Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Demko, Rathbone, Klimovich, and the 1sts and prospects from the Miller and Horvat deals. I know folks on here are interested in moving Boeser, but he won’t fetch us much right now due to his 7.5 QO + his subpar play right now. Only reason why teams are calling on Boeser right now is because they want to try and buy low on him. My hope is that Benning is smarter than that. My hope is that with both a Horvat and Miller deal, we can Atleast come back with a top notch right handed defensive prospect (Braden Schneider?) that can play alongside Quinn Hughes for many years.
  17. I like your Sissons idea but does Nashville bite?
  18. It doesn't necessarily have to be a 1st round pick. Maybe we get an elite young player like a Noah Dobson out of NYI (not him specifically, but just a young elite player of that calibre maybe).
  19. No. If I were Miller or Horvat, I wouldn't sign here in 2023 since I wouldn't be getting any younger and since I'd want to compete for a cup. Disagree with Boeser. His value has greatly diminished this year and we'd be selling low on him. Better off keeping him since he'll be an RFA which means we could possibly sign him to a long term deal and keep him as part of our core moving forward.
  20. GM's go crazy at the trade deadline. Horvat, at minimum, would fetch the Canucks a 1st rounder and/or an elite prospect.
  21. I probably would unfortunately. Boeser won't fetch you much right now anyways while Horvat and Miller will be able to recoup all of our loss 1sts and prospects from the Toffoli, OEL, and Miller deals. With rumours of locker room dissension combined with the fact that the Canucks likely won't be making the playoffs this season, we need to reset imo.
  22. 1) Results are the only thing that matter. 2nd round appearance + game 7 = our (tied for) 4th best playoff result ever. 2) You are clearly a troll looking to piss people off on here and so this will be my last response to you. The Minnesota series wasn't a "coin toss." We won in 5 games and they had great difficulty scoring on us after the 1st game if I recall correctly (something 5 on 5? My memory is fading). 3) Against the Blues, we broke St. Louis' will when we won game 5. St. Louis was coming on strong that game and in the games prior before Markstrom, and a few other Canucks elevated their games and defeated the Blues. People like you and "Canucks fans" at HF became livid, LOL. 4) A 7 game series is still better than a team that gets swept but pushes a team to OT in each every game. Sounds to me like you would have been happier losing to Vegas if we had been swept and lost each game 2-1 in OT. Also - the Canucks deliberately started to give up the possession battle against Vegas in those last few games because Vegas was dominating the board battles. We collapsed around the net, limited the high danger scoring chances (despite the high shot total), and tried to kill Vegas on breakouts. Much to your chagrin, it actually worked hook, line, and sinker in that game 6.
