  1. I wonder what the asking price for Hampus Lindholm would be?

  3. Not from my understanding. I think all of Linden, Benning, and ownership were initially on the same page back in 2014 (ie a lot of our vets were devalued and so we wouldn’t be able to get elite prospects and high 1sts in trading them, along with the fact that we had almost no one in our system within that 20-23 age range and so trading our vets for whatever, would only be setting up whatever few kids we had in our system to fail due to being rushed and playing in positions Over there heads). All three guys knew that we were in a tough spot and would be headed for some rough years, but that having a veteran presence to insulate the incoming kids and creating a culture of accountability was of the utmost importance (I.e having the right on ice and off ice habits at all times despite losing, competing hard every night, and kids being placed into positions where they would be challenged and could grow their games, but not be over exerted). I think where Linden and ownership started to diverge, was in how quickly certain kids should be brought into the line-up (again, this is speculation on my part). I believe that Linden felt that guys like Gaudette and MacEwan were ‘good enough’ to step into an NHL line up and get some exposure, while Benning and ownership felt that the Gaudette’s and MacEwen’s needed a little bit more time, and could benefit with playing bigger roles in the AHL while growing their games. Hence, the signings of Beagle, Schaller, and Roussel. Management assumed that if and when Gaudette and MacEwen were ready, finding spots for them in the line-up wouldn’t be a problem, and vets would be moved out accordingly (just as was the case when Motte beat out Gagner). I believe that this was the biggest issue between Linden and ownership and was ultimately why Linden decided to leave.
  4. You know who cares? The nut jobs over at HF Canucks. They’ve devoted multiple threads over there to try and basically say that, “Brackett was responsible for almost every single good scouting decision that the Canucks made while Jim Benning, outside of Hughes, was responsible for every single bad scouting decision that the Canucks have ever made.” Good lord that place has severe mental issues.
  5. Forgot about Roussel! Looks like the hockey layoff has made me a bit rusty. This would be my line-up with all of my suggested ideas: Miller-Pettersson-Toffoli Pearson-Horvat-Boeser Ferland-Sissons-Leivo Roussel-Beagle-Motte Edler-Dobson Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Rafferty Markstrom NewBackUpFromOttawaOrDetroit
  6. I don’t agree with this post at all. Personally speaking, I don’t think we will have much of a cap issue, if any, going forward: 1) Eriksson can either be packaged with Demko, or might even be convinced to retire this Summer or next once he gets paid his bonuses (after this summer, he will have earned 31 or his 36 million). 2) Baertschi can be moved with 50% retention 3) Sutter can be moved with 50% retention. 4) Stecher can be moved for a pick or can be unqualified like Hutton was. Rafferty replaces Stecher 5) Move Boeser (if the Canucks sign Toffoli and Podkolzin also becomes good enough) 6) Walk from Tanev and replace Tanev with Tryamkin (although I’d be cautious of this approach). For the year after that, the Canucks would have the option to..... 1) Trade Beagle with 50% retention 2) Move Roussel at 50% retention 3) Not sign Pearson (Maybe Hoglander becomes good enough to replace Pearson). 4) Not sign Edler (although I would highly advise against considering that we do not have an Edler replacement within our system). Long story short - I think the Canucks will have a lot of options as it pertains to their so-called cap problems. Please don’t listen to the depressed and biased morons over at HF Canucks that would rather see Jim Benning fail over the Canucks winning hockey games.
  7. Thanks for the feedback guys: I will try and answer a few common questions and concerns that came up: 1) Why move Gaudette? The Canucks need to find a center that can take on the tough match ups and defensive deployments so that it frees up Horvat more for offense (which in effect, also helps take pressure off of Petey’s line). Brendan Sutter isn’t good enough to match up against other top lines, while “shutting down” and playing two way hockey isn’t something that Gaudette specializes in. As a result, the Canucks are using the Pearson-Horvat-Eriksson as their match-up shut down line which is taking away from putting more pressure on the Pettersson line, while also minimizing Horvat. That is why in my above outline plan, I would bring in Colton Sissons (Virtanen goes the other way). Sissons would basically our version of Alex Kerfoot, Nazem Kadri, Teddy Bluegar, etc. 2) Why get rid of Demko? The Canucks will be entering their window very shortly, and Markstrom is better goalie. Furthermore, the Canucks would risk losing Demko to expansion anyways......which leads to point number three. 3) Why is there an urgency to move Eriksson? Signing Markstrom, Tanev, Virtanen, etc., will not be easy (although in my above outlined scenario, i end up moving on from Markstrom). Regardless, the Canuck have to find ways to free up as much money possible to re-up Pettersson and Hughes in a couple of years, and Eriksson’s contract will be an obstacle. By packaging Demko with Eriksson, you kill two birds with one stone. You get another team to take on a bad contract without retention, AND you move a guy (Demko) that would likely be picked up during the expansion draft anyways. 8. It’s fine. We all have different levels of understanding hockey and so I look forward to you getting more experienced as a fan.
  9. [proposal] Some Canucks trades and moves that I’d like but you’d probably hate 1) Eriksson and Demko to Ottawa or Detroit for a cheap back-up. -The Canucks risk losing Demko to the Expansion Draft anyways. Even if they don’t, they’ll need to find a way to get Eriksson’s contract off the books so that they can have enough money to re-up guys like Pettersson, Hughes, etc. The Sens or Wings get a solid young goalie that can help them by taking on a bad contract. 2) Podkolzin for Noah Dobson: -The Islanders get a better prospect, while we get a prospect that plays a more important position. The Isles already have Bode Wilde as a right side D prospect and so they might be interested in becoming more well rounded. Podkzolin playing Barzal could be a real nightmare for them. Dobson gives the Canucks a future top pairing all situations dman that can over from Edler one day. We don’t have anyone in our system that can effectively replace what Edler brings to the table. 3) Virtanen for Colton Sissons: The Canucks get a young legitimate shut down center at a very good cap hit. The presence of Sissons would allow for the Canucks to free up Horvat a little more and let Horvat play in more offensive roles instead of being our defacto shut down guy (something that Sutter was supposed to do by the way). Virtanen is a better play than Sissons but Sissons is cheaper and would play a much more important role for us when you consider the fact that we’d have Boeser and Toffoli already. 4) Stecher either gets moved for a pick or is unqualified. 5) Tryamkin comes back 6) Gaudette moved for a draft pick. 7) Baertschi traded with 50% retention for a pick. 8) Sutter traded at 50% retention for a pick. 9) Chris Tanev walks to clear cap space 10) Trade Jordie Benn for a draft pick. 11) Rafferty makes the team. 12) Re-sign Toffoli 13) Re-sign Leivo 14) Re-sign Motte New line-up: Miller-Pettersson-Toffoli Pearson-Horvat-Boeser Ferland-Sissons-Leivo Motte-Beagle-MacEwen Edler-Myers Hughes-Dobson Tryamkin-Rafferty Markstrom NewBackUp You guys do not have to thank me all at once for saving the Canucks and building us a winner beyond this season. :-p
  10. What about Podkolzin for Dobson? Podkzolin is the higher touted prospect, but Dobson plays a more important position. The Islanders already have Bode Wilde as a promising defensive prospect, and perhaps they’d also see a benefit in having a nice young piece in Podkolzin playing alongside Barzal. The Canucks on the other hand, get a guy who could very likely be a top pairing “all situations” future Edler replacement. We don’t have a guy in our system that will likely be able to do what Edler does for us now. A Hughes-Dobson pairing could really end up being one of the top pairings in hockey for years to come.
  11. LOL, Damn. Comparing this place to the highly toxic HF Canucks site is like night and day. Lots of good thoughts here.
  12. Retire from what? Baking bread? wasnt he done like years ago?
  13. GM: Brian Burke Coach: Pat Quinn Captain: Linden Assistants: Daniel and Henrik D.Sedin-H.Sedin-Burrows Naslund-Morrison-Bertuzzi J.T. Miller-Kesler-Linden Gelinas-Horvat-Hansen Brashear Erhoff-Edler Ohlund-Salo Hamhuis-Bieksa Hughes Markstrom Mclean
  14. Point percentage takes precedence over everything. Canucks would make it in.
  15. This is the correct answer. The Canucks would be in and have technically made the playoffs if the season is to be resumed in an abbreviated format. it likely won’t through. my guess is that this season will be cancelled, and that we will have a half season next season that will commence in January or February.
  16. Henrik is the greatest of all-time. Bure was the most exciting of all-time. Mogilny was our most talented of all-time. Messier was the most iconic legend that has ever played for us. Linden was the best leader of all-time.
  17. Honestly, I think the Canucks just need to continue growing as a team while gaining experience. Our team has holes in it and is fragile because we are still developing. I think we are in a similar situation to where we were in 2000-2001, and 2006-2007, in that, we are just exiting the ‘dark days’ and are showing signs of potential, but still have a ways to go. I think the Canucks will get there as our young players continue to grow (on the team and within the system), while our placeholder/bad contracts come off the books.
  18. balance out top six scoring + promote Motte + take a gamble on the Sutter line being used to shut down : Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Roussel-Sutter-Eriksson (or Motte) (Motte)Eriksson-Gaudette-MacEwan
