  1. Yep you nailed it. I wouldn’t have too much issue from a cap perspective, but the term that we’d have to hand out to AP (if we’re getting AP to leave St.Louis) would be bloody dangerous.
  2. There’s a possibility that firing Green could hurt team morale since he’s grown with the team and was there through the thick and thin when this team was truly near the bottom a few years back. Give Green this season to get into the playoffs. If we miss, fire him and go hard after Gallant. No to Babcock or Peters for obvious reasons.
  3. Just anyone in general on that side basically. Myers and Tanev aren’t exactly spring chicken, while Stecher might not be a part of this team’s future. We still don’t know what will happen with Tryamkin (will he play here), while right sided prospects like Woo are by no means a lock to make the team. Rafferty is our only real long term asset on right side D right now. Basically, I want a young defenseman in our system that can be the Brent Seabrook to Quinn Hughes’ Duncan Keith. The ying to their yang so to speak.
  4. Strange things have definitely happened on lottery determination day (New Jersey Devils day hello). Assuming that we don’t win the lottery however, and draft in a position that corresponds more closely to where we finish, I would love to draft Braden Schneider. Big, physical, RHD, good skating defenseman that is defensively oriented. He’s exactly what we need imo.
  5. The Half-Glass Full Approach I’m going to be honest. The loss against Columbus broke me as a fan, and I almost didn’t watch the game last night due to me not wanting to possibly see the Canucks lose. The fan in me however, tuned in anyways and unsurprisingly, I felt even worse after the loss for likely the same reasons you guys felt (ie possibly missing the playoffs, blowing such a huge 9 point playoff cushion, possibly buying Toffoli for nothing, etc). After having gone to bed with these thoughts however, I came up with the following thought: If back in September 2019, someone had told you that in March, 1) We’d have ownership of the 1st wildcard spot. 2) We had Tyler Toffoli on the team (giving up the package that we did) 3) The NHL has had discussions about raising the cap between 84-88 million, 4) Gaudette, Virtanen, Motte, and Demko have grown their games. Would you have been excited by this news or saddened? I would have been excited. So yes - we are in a slump right now, and we did piss away a huge playoff cushion, but at the end of the day, we are still very much in the thick of things as far as the playoffs go. IF the Canucks can hang tight and get into the playoffs, we have two possible bonuses headed our way: 1) The return of Jacob Markstrom 2) The return of Brock Boeser Which likely would make us a very formidable Playoff opponent regardless of who we faced in the West. If the Canucks make the playoffs.......wonderful! If not - it would suck obviously, but the expected salary cap increase will also greatly alleviate many of the cap concerns and issues that we originally thought that we would have. And above all else, at the end of the day, this is just a hockey and it’s a game. We all have the luxury of living in Canada while supporting our team. These are #FirstWorldProblems. Look around the world right now and you see how many people are being affected by Covid19, etc, and it really helps put things into perspective with regards to how lucky we are. From a hockey standpoint we are even relatively lucky. -Leafs haven’t won a playoff series since 2002. -Ignoring 2004, the Calgary Flames have won exactly one playoff series since their cup win in 89’ (and so they’ve won a grand total of 4 playoff series’ since 1989). -The city of Winnipeg were without a hockey team for 15+ years. -Outside of 2006, a few playoff upsets during the late 90’s, and a 1st round victory over San Jose a few years ago, the Oilers have been irrelevant to the NHL since 1992 (up until this season). The Canucks meanwhile, have done everything these past 30 years *except* for winning a cup. We experienced the “dark Messier” era from 1997-2000, and are possibly putting our current ‘dark era’ to rest.....and again, even if don’t make the playoffs this year, we have still shown progress......which is ultimately the most important thing. So long story short - let’s count our blessings, be there for our team, and enjoy the fight and battle. Good things are ahead for this team regardless how this specific season transpires. #GoCanucks
  6. Hope the Canucks win obviously. having said that, I’m about to make a cowardice comment and so I understand if posters on here will be upset with me. The loss to Columbus broke me. I would man up if I was a player, but the fan in me is broken. As a result, I won’t watch tonight’s game. I’ll need to see the Canucks win a few games before I hope back on the bandwagon. I just can’t stomach the idea of them possibly pissing away the season due to Markstrom’s injury. Go Canucks. And I also praise you guys for having thicker skin than I do.
  7. The “Canucks fans” at HF Canucks are very happy tonight, so there’s that I guess. JD Burke is probably doing backflips as well.
  8. Can’t point the fingers at Roussel. Anyone coming into a season mid season without regular summer training will be hard pressed.
  9. I will have to admit. tonight’s loss hurt me. A lot. that was a straight up punch to the nutsack if there ever was one. Onwards and upwards, but this one stings.
  10. Apparently, they were thinking about using Gallant in advertising one of the new sandwiches that will be introduced at Subway. I don’t know much about the new Subway Sandwich other than the fact that it’s 9 inches long.
  11. Pietrangelo isn’t at an ideal age, and he’d cost us way too much cap and term. The Edmundson idea is a phenomenal one. Great age, fits our team needs perfectly, and could realistically be signed to good money and term. Tryamkin can also play both sides, and so Tree could easily play with Hughes or Edler if need be. @ruilin96 wins this thread hands down.
  12. I like this idea a lot. He’s at a great age, and he’d be exactly what this team needs. Good thinking!
  13. I’m very open to the idea of possibly replacing Travis Green with Gerard Gallant at the end of the season. I am very impressed with Gallant’s body of work and body in general.
  14. Brutal idea in my opinion. The Canucks shouldn’t be giving up any more first rounders. Hawks ain’t giving the Canucks Saad for a cap dump. Either Eriksson retires, or he’ll be packaged with Demko to Ottawa or Detroit for a mid level prospect.
  15. Stecher: One thing I do love about Stech, is his passion and commitment in wanting to win in Vancouver. I was quite moved by his speech the other day on how it’s his dream to win a cup for us, and how it’s been like that since he grew up in Richmond. Now having said that, my concern is that Stecher will have arbitration rights this summer........and he’s also spent a lot of time on the first pair with Edler (being carried by Edler, but the arbitrator won’t give a flying monkey fart about that). If the Canucks commit to Stecher, the price will likely be higher than what we want. The presence of Stecher would also like spell the end of Brogan Rafferty as a Canuck (Myers and one of Tanev or Barrie will be the other guy on our right side D.......likely Tanev if the Canucks commit to the more expensive Stecher as we likely wouldn’t have money for Barrie). We would probably have to use Rafferty as a sweetener to get rid of a bad contract if we commit to Stecher. 2020-2021 Edler-Stecher Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-Myers 2021-2022 Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-Stecher [Rathbone/Juolevi]-Myers
  16. Agree with what you’re saying to some extent, but many respectable hockey pundits have Madden as being one of the top prospects in the world. Be that as it may, the Canucks need to keep filling the pipeline (if the Canucks, or any team for that matter, want to avoid falling off a cliff when their core gets too old or has cap problems for instance........you remember what happened to the Canucks in 2014 right?). Regardless of what you think of Madden, the Canucks gave up a 1st rounder in the Miller deal and a top prospect in the Toffoli deal. Trading Boeser would allow us to recoup both of these assets, while also giving us much needed cap space to sign Pettersson and Hughes in the Summer of 2021.
  17. @Alflives @IBatch One argument I don’t understand,is this whole, “we have Hughes and so we don’t need Barrie” argument. My question is why? 1) Hughes and Barrie wouldn’t play with each other 5 on 5. Both guys could play on separate pairings with more defensive minded defensemen. Barrie with Edler, and Hughes with Tanev (or Tryamkin or Myers should the Canucks decide to walk from Tanev). 2) On the powerplay, you can create two potent power plays with Hughes quarterbacking the first, and Barrie quarterbacking the 2nd. If the inevitable injury bug hits and someone from PP1 gets injured, them you can play Hughes and Barrie together. Atleast in my opinion, the Canucks shouldn’t be worrying about whether they have two defensemen of a similar nature (small offensive minded men). Instead, their primary focus should just be on having Top 4 caliber Dmen on their team. Barrie is almost as old as Tanev, but Barrie’s game will likely age a lot better due to his style. Tanev has been injury free so far this season, but given his style of play and history of injuries, I’m not sure if Tanev is going to age particularly well. I wouldn’t be comfortable signing Tanev long term, whereas I absolutely would with Barrie (I’m assuming that the Canucks coaching staff is interested in Barrie because stylistically, the Canucks are far more similar to Colorado than they are Toronto and so they feel that Barrie would be a good fit here). Canucks defense if it was up to me: 2020-2021 Edler-Barrie Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Rafferty 2021-2022 Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Barrie [Juolevi/Rathbone/Brisebois]-Rafferty (if the Canucks somehow lost Myers in the expansion draft.....which is kind of what I’m hoping......go HARD HARD HARD after a superstar two way physical defenseman that can complement Hughes on the top pairing......or, hopefully, the Canucks will have drafted someone like that by that time).
  18. Quite honestly, I don’t think Stecher will be back next season. He’ll either get moved at the draft for a 3rd or below, or will be unqualified and replaced by Rafferty. If it’s of any consolation to him however, I don’t think Tanev will be back here if Tryamkin decides to come back, along with Barrie signing here.
  19. Hopefully, the Canucks and Eriksson already have a handshake agreement where Eriksson will retire in July once he gets his bonus. Sutter and Baertschi will likely be traded at the end of the Summer when other teams have signed their main players and can add in some supplementary pieces. Both players will likely require 50% retention. I think the Canucks will also move Jordie Benn (zero retention) to a team that could use some defensive depth. I think the Canucks will move on from Stecher (replaced with Rafferty), and will bring back Tryamkin. They will then decide between Tanev or Barrie (I think Barrie will be Benning’s first choice). As far as Boeser AND Toffoli both being here goes, I would love to see it happen obviously, but I can’t see it. Hughes and Pettersson will likely require between 17 and 20 million in freed up cap space.
  20. Aside from the fact that the Flyers won’t trade Provorov for Brock, the Canucks should only trade Brock if they are able to re-sign Toffoli, and they should only be trading Brock to clear cap space (in order to have enough money to sign Pettersson and Hughes). If the Canucks sign Toffoli, trade Brock to Minnesota for one of their firsts (the Wild have two firsts), and a good prospect. That would allow the Canucks to recoup the first that they lost in the Miller deal, and Madden whom they lost in the Toffoli deal......all the while, clearing some essential cap space.
  21. I want to be Carly Agro’s wife and let her be the man in the relationship with me. I admit it.
  22. Because Jake Virtanen, despite being a very talented mofo, has Corky Thatcher’s hockey IQ? (that, and Eriksson sucks).
  23. Giving Claude Julien a taste of his own medicine. Canucks were down 2-0 and 3-2 before winning it 4-3. Sound familiar Julien? Eat $&!#! #GoCanucksGo
  24. That’s what I was thinking originally, but I don’t think we’d have enough cap space to sign Pettersson and Hughes in the following season. That’s why I’d much rather see the Canucks try and recoup their 1st (lost in the Miller deal) and a good prospect (lost in the Toffoli deal), If we were to deal Brock. Clear up some significant cap space as well.
  25. Even in 2-3 years, where would you see Lind fitting, given that three out of the following 4 players (Toffoli, Boeser, Podkolzin, Virtanen) will be in our line-up on the right side? 4th line? (Where I think MacEwan will be).
