What insecure tough guy personna? Have you seriously not been to a bar before or been around a hockey or sports environment? People talk $&!# all the time but it’s never meant to be personal. It’s just good natured ribbing......although I do agree that there are douchebags out there that ruin it for people, and conceal their passive aggressive attacks under the pretext of harmless “rib” comments. To each their own though. I agree with you that being a dick isn’t healthy (although I wasn’t deliberately trying to offend anyone), but having the sensitivity of a 14 year old girl isn’t healthy either. Life is tough. Best to be a bit more thick skinned eh?

True, but is Tanev’s game going to age as well? I’m not so sure. This year has been an anomaly as far as his body goes. If the Canucks can add another top 4 quality dman, while getting a younger and cheaper Tryamkin to assume Tanev’s defensive stay at home responsibilities, then I would think that this might be a better way to go.

[proposal] So........these Tyson Barrie to Vancouver rumors: Bob “double chin” McKenzie is reporting that the Canucks are inquiring about Tyson Barrie. Stecher+ would obviously be going the other way if the Canucks were to make a deal. If the Canucks were interested in signing Barrie beyond this season, then I think that would all but spell the end of Chris Tanev......which would result in the younger and cheaper Tryamkin assuming Tanev’s old role of being the defensive stabilizing presence. Rafferty would replace Stecher. I know there are many people in the Canucks universe that are arguing that, “the Canucks don’t need Barrie because they already have Hughes,” but I disagree. Adding more top 4 dmen to the line-up (particularly those like Tyson Barrie who will likely age well) is not a bad thing.....it’s a good thing. Canucks future defense (2021-2022 and beyond) Hughes-#### Tryamkin-Barrie #####-Rafferty Obviously - one of our Utica guys could fill in on that 3rd pairing and play with Rafferty, or we could get a cheap Jordie Bennish type guy on that 3rd pairing. Either way - finding a guy on that 3rd pairing won’t be an issue. What the Canucks would need in the future however (ie if the Canucks were to move on from Edler, Tanev, and Stecher, as to accommodate Tyson Barrie along with the other players on our team that would need to be re-signed and re-upped), would be a solid stay at homish kind of guy that could complement Hughes’ game. Like a younger version of Jake Muzzin or Brent Seabrook kind of guy. If the Canucks are getting Barrie *right now* however, then I think Stecher+ is gonzo, and it will also spell the end of Chris Tanev at the end of the season. I’d actually be in favor of doing this, provided that....... 1) Tryamkin replaces Tanev as far as being the stabilizing defensive presence goes: 2) The “+” that we’d have to add in with Stecher isn’t too crazy. Edit - I forgot that we had Tyler Myers. Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Barrie #####-Rafferty

[Proposal] Van LE & Demko - Ott draft picks
Patel Bure replied to Odjick the Warrior's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
You are correct about the date. I think you’re right about Furley as well. -
I think Benning and management has a stronger plan than many are giving credit for, but time will tell obviously. 1) I think Eriksson either retires or get moved with Demko (who we risk losing to expansion anyways). 2) I think Baertschi and Sutter will get moved at the end of the summer at 50% retention (once teams sign all of their major players and are looking for small adds). That’s what I suspect will happen, but who knows. I know people don’t want to hear this, but I also suspect that if the Canucks sign Toffoli to a 5 year deal, they’ll look at moving Boeser or Virtanen to recoup the first lost in the Miller deal).
-
That’s all well and good, but I’d need to see a plan as to how the Canucks would manage their cap going forward. Does Ferland retire? Does Eriksson retire or get moved with a sweetner like Demko? Do we move on from both Tanev and Stecher? (Replaced by Tryamkin and Stecher). How do the Canucks clear enough cap space to sign Pettersson and Hughes in the Summer of 2021?

[Proposal] Van LE & Demko - Ott draft picks
Patel Bure replied to Odjick the Warrior's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If Eriksson doesn’t retire after July 1st, his cap will be a hindrance in terms of being able to sign Toffoli, Markstrom, Virtanen, and Tanev (should the Canucks go this route). Canucks risk losing Demko anyways to the expansion draft. Hence - that is why you make this deal. If Eriksson retires after July 1st, but Ferland is still trying to play hockey, use Demko as a sweetener to move Ferland. -
If the Canucks intend to 1) sign Toffoli 2) re-sign Pettersson 3) re-sign Hughes 4) re-up Virtanen 5) re-sign Markstrom etc., they’ll need the cap space. I can’t see a situation where the Canucks will have all three of Toffoli, Boeser, and Virtanen after this season. Losing Boeser would suck, but we’d recoup the first lost in the Miller deal, and we’d create cap space. ps - another thing to keep in mind is this. The Canucks will need a suitable Edler replacement after next season (ie a top pairing “all situations” guy). The Canucks don’t have anyone in the system that can replace Edler right now. Tryamkin is our closest thing, but he’s a second pairing guy at best in all likelihood (and so he’d possibly be our Tanev replacement on that 2nd pairing).
-
He won’t trade both. Just one of these players (if we sign Toffoli). The Canucks will need cap space to re-up Pettersson and Hughes (along with finding a suitable replacement for Edler......which I think many people are overlooking), and I think Benning wants to recoup the 1st that he lost in the Miller Trade (Virtanen might not be able to get us that). However - if coaching and management feels that Virtanen is still improving and can still take his game to a new level, then they might offer him a longer term contract where the AAV might appear to be slightly above market value for the short term, but could end up being a huge discount a quarter way through). If the Canucks feel that Virtanen could fit the above description, and intend to use Virtanen on the 2nd line (Toffoli would be the first line winger), then bye bye Boeser, and hello 2020 1st round pick.
-
I think the Canucks will sign Toffoli, and will use one of Boeser or Virtanen to try and recoup the 1st round pick lost in the Miller deal. Stecher will get Ben Huttoned. Leivo will walk the plank. Baertschi and Sutter will be moved at the end of the Summer at 50% retention. Eriksson will retire or will get packed with Demko.

YOU STOLE MY IDEA!!!!!!!!! But yeah.........I do like your proposal. Definitely makes sense if Eriksson isn’t planning to retire. Although you stole my idea. -
Green should make the following coaching adjustments in my opinion
Patel Bure replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
Green’s deployment of Adam Gaudette could be having a negative rippling effect on the team. I want to preface this by saying that I love Adam Gaudette. A standout in college, a hobey baker winner, and worked his butt off to make the NHL. However - I just don’t know if Gaudette has a clearly defined role under Green’s system. The Canucks are obviously trying to develop Gaudette’s offensive game, but they aren’t really supporting him with his linemates. Roussel missed training camp and has limited offensive ability as is, and Virtanen isn’t strong enough to carry a scoring line. The end result is this: Gaudette’s line can’t produce consistent offense, and Gaudette’s line can’t really shut down the opposition.......which has resulted in Horvat’s line being given that responsibility. All of this has resulted in the following: -decent scoring line 1 -shut down scoring line 2 -sub-par scoring line 3 -sub par shut down line 4 Which ultimately means that the Canucks are leaning too much on Pettersson, Miller, and Hughes, while not efficiently using the likes of Horvat, Pearson, and Virtanen. Remember when the Canucks started off the year 9-3-3? Remember when Sutter was our 3rd line C? Why not go back to something similar? Miller-Pettersson-Toffoli Pearson-Horvat-Gaudette Eriksson-Sutter-Virtanen Roussel-Beagle-Motte Edler-Myers Hughes-Tanev Benn-Stecher Put Gaudette in Leivo’s old spot, and put Virtanen on the 3rd line instead of the 4th. -
[Proposal] Gaudette for Ristolainen
Patel Bure replied to Kanukfanatic's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
What about Gaudette + 3rd for Colton Scissons? Scissons is young, has a tremendous long term cap friend cap hit, and is an excellent defensive forward and face off guy. The presence of Scissons would allow Horvat to focus on offense. I highly doubt that Nashville would give up Scissons for that package, but you never know. -
[proposal Stecher + 3rd for a rental on defense
Patel Bure replied to Patel Bure's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Agree with you about Gaudette. Anderson is having a bad year, but Columbus won’t give him up that easily. They’ll either ask for a higher return (based on his prior history), OR they’ll hold onto him and wait for him to get his game back. -
Choosing between Boeser and Toffoli: A couple of posters have asked me as to why I’d choose Toffoli over Boeser. Here are my reasons: 1) The potential to sign Toffoli to a longer term deal. I don’t think Toffoli will cost a whole lot (relatively speaking), and so we could perhaps get Toffoli at a decent cap hit for 5 years or so. With Boeser on the other hand, he’d be looking at a huge raise once his contract expires in two seasons (assuming that he gets back to playing like he used to). Even though Toffoli is older, our “window” might actually be longer with Toffoli in the line-up. 2) Recoup the 1st round pick. We won’t be able to trade Toffoli to recoup our 1st round pick from the Miller Trade. We can do that with Boeser however, while also clearing cap space. 3) Toffoli is a better all around player. Boeser is probably a better sniper, but Toffoli is a better overall player. He’s better defensively, physically, and can also play center. Toffoli’s cup experience will also come in handy.

(proposal) Hockey Trade
Patel Bure replied to Nicklas Bo Hunter's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yes, but not to the extent that the Canucks would in my opinion (comparing the Canucks to other elite teams in the NHL). If we lose Edler, Tanev, or Hughes, this team sinks faster than Paris Hilton. -
Green should make the following coaching adjustments in my opinion 1) Stop using Horvat’s line as a shutdown line. The Canucks need to have atleast two legit scoring lines if they are to make noise down the stretch. Gaudette’s line isn’t a good scoring line, and our top line is going to need some support. Put Toffoli or Virtanen on the Horvat-Pearson line. One of Toffoli or Virtanen goes to play on the top line. 2) Put Sutter back at center, and use Roussel-Sutter-Eriksson as your new shut down line. Like I said above - our current 3rd line isn’t very effective. They don’t score and they can’t shut down. If it’s having trouble scoring, then change it’s complexion. 3) Motte deserves a promotion. Look for ways to promote Tyler Motte, whether it means the 3rd line or even get a look on the top 6. Motte deserves a serious look. Earlier this season, he flat out carried Schaller and Beagle into a pretty good 4th line, and the Canucks have a significantly better record with Motte in the line-up. Perhaps put him with Roussel and Sutter on the 3rd line. 4) Stop dicking around Virtanen. Virtanen is our clear cut 2nd best RW’er and should be used as such. Play Virtanen with Horvat or Pettersson. Stop using Virtanen to try and jump start the 3rd line offense. It ain’t happening. Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Eriksson-Sutter-Motte Roussel-Beagle-Gaudette

[proposal Stecher + 3rd for a rental on defense
Patel Bure replied to Patel Bure's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
1) Agreed with you on Tryamkin and Myers. 2) Goldie and Bear won’t get you Josh Anderson. 3) The reason why I mention the idea of trading Stecher + 3rd for a rental D on an expiring contract (top 4 calibre), is because the Canucks need to find a way where they can make an aggressive push for this year, while simultaneously keeping a mindful eye for their future when their window really begins. The Canucks need to have enough future cap space in order to re-sign Pettersson and Hughes, and they’ll also need to make sure that Edler is adequately replaced (ie a top pairing “all situations” defenseman that can shut down and log heavy minutes). If I was Benning, I’d do the following: 2020 Summer: -re-sign Toffoli: -re-sign Markstrom -re-sign Virtanen -re-sign Motte -Rafferty replaces Stecher (Stecher is unqualified or traded for a pick). -Tryamkin replaces Tanev (Canucks move on from Tanev at the end of the Summer). -Jordie Benn is traded for a low round pick towards the end of the Summer. Someone from Utica replaces Benn. -Brock Boeser is moved around the draft for a 1st round pick. This helps us clear cap space, while also allowing the Canucks to recoup their 1st from the Miller deal. -Ferland (god bless him), hopefully retires. -Eriksson (god bless him) hopefully retires after July 1st, OR is packaged with Demko to clear cap space -Baertschi is traded with 50% retention towards the end of the Summer -Sutter is traded with 50% retention towards the end of the summer: -The Canucks will from Leivo -The Canucks re-sign Motte Miller-Pettersson-Toffoli Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen Roussel-Gaudette-Lind Motte-Beagle-MacEwan Edler-Myers Hughes-Tryamkin Fantenberg-Rafferty Markstrom [new Back-up] 2021 Summer: -Beagle moved at 50% retention for a pick -Roussel moved at 50% retention for a pick. -Myers is exposed in the Expansion draft. -Canucks walk away from Edler -The Canucks sign Pettersson, Hughes, and go VERY hard after a top pairing “all situations” defenseman to replace Edler. This guy could very well be the “Brent Seabrook” to Quinn Hughes’ Duncan Keith. The Canucks clearly look refreshed after having had some rest days. Their last good game was against Carolina, but they had looked fatigued ever since then. -

Patel Bure replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Very good game by the Canucks. Even though they lost, that was one of their better games of the season. They were tenacious on their checks, and had great puck possession. Toffoli is still getting used to our system, but the talent and brains are clearly there. An NHL GM’s job is never easy, but I’d honestly be looking to resign Toffoli before the NHL draft, while moving Brock or Jake at the draft for a 1st (to recoup the 1st lost in the Miller deal while clearing cap space). -
[proposal Stecher + 3rd for a rental on defense

That might be the way they go: Edler-Stecher Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-Myers Fantenberg Maybe the Canucks use Gaudette + 3rd (+Benn?) to upgrade their 3rd C position? -
[proposal Stecher + 3rd for a rental on defense
Patel Bure replied to Patel Bure's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Hey yo, I agree with you about defensive depth. My idea for moving Stecher + 3rd is for a better defenseman! (That just so happens to be a rental). Whoever that guy is + the return of Tryamkin = our defense being pretty damned good. ps - I can’t see Baertschi being moved until the end of the summer at 50% retention (ie teams will have their cap figured out by then heading into 2020/2021 and will have a better idea as to whether they can accommodate one year of Baertschi). -
(proposal) Hockey Trade
Patel Bure replied to Nicklas Bo Hunter's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The Canucks do not have good depth on defense. Don’t kid yourself. One injury to Edler, Tanev, or Hughes = a serious dent in our defense. Myers is a borderline 4/5 guy, while the rest of our D men are 3rd pairing calibre. The Canucks need atleast one more top 4 quality guy (hopefully Tree comes back before the deadline). If the Canucks are serious about making some noise in the playoffs, then I’d get another top 4 quality dman on top of Tryamkin (Stecher + 3rd for rental D).
