  1. [proposal Stecher + 3rd for a rental on defense The Canucks aren’t bringing Stecher back anyways, and so I wouldn’t mind seeing them trade Stecher + 3rd for an expiring UFA. I’d prefer defense, but maybe this rental could be a forward as well (Wayne Simmonds comes to mind, but Simmonds likely wouldn’t cost both Stecher and a 3rd). The Canucks’ defense could actually look pretty solid if 1) Tryamkin returned 2) Stecher + 3rd rounder lead to an upgrade on Stecher. Edler-New Guy Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-Myers Fantenberg
  2. Completely agree. My only concern as it relates to Subban, is our long term ability to re-up Pettersson and Hughes. If we’re trading for Subban, then we’d need to be trading guys that
  3. And all this time, I thought “load management” was something that the kiddies were taught at Neverland Ranch.
  4. Cap strategy between now and Summer of 2021 when we have to re-up Petey and Hughes This is my half-assed plan: 2020 Summer: -Eriksson either retires, or we move Eriksson with Demko as a sweetener to Ottawa for a low round pick. -Ferland retires -Boeser is traded for a 1st round pick (we recoup the first that we lost in the Miller Trade). -We sign Tanev -We sign Tryamkin -We sign Virtanen -We sign Markstrom -Bye Bye Stecher and Leivo -Jordie Benn is moved if we don’t have to retain salary -Baertschi is moved at 50% retention at the end of the summer -Sutter is moved at 50% retention at the end of Summer. -We sign Gaudette -We sign Toffoli -We sign Motte Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Roussel-Gaudette-Bailey Motte-Beagle-MacEwan Edler-Tanev Hughes-Myers Tryamkin-Rafferty Markstrom NewBackUp Summer 2021 -walk away from Pearson -Beagle traded at 50% retention -Roussel traded at 50% retention -Sign Pettersson -Sign Hughes -resign Edler, or another shut down dman worth 6 million. Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Hoglander-Horvat-Toffoli ????-Gaudette-Podkolzin ????-????-Motte Hughes-Tanev (Edler?)-??? Tryamkin-Rafferty Markstrom (Demko? Dipietro?)
  5. Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Roussel-Sutter-Eriksson Motte-Beagle-Gaudette MacEwan Edler-Stecher Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-Myers Fantenberg Markstrom Demko Some advice: 1) Re-unite Pearson and Toffoli. If that doesn’t work, then switch Toffoli and Virtanen. 2) Do NOT use the Horvat line as a shutdown line. No more Eriksson on that line. Put Virtanen or Toffoli there and let them focus on scoring. 3) Use Roussel-Sutter-Eriksson as your shut down line. The Gaudette line with Roussel is useless. They don’t score much or shut down much. That 3rd line needs to be about something.
  6. Leivo and Roussel don’t land you Domi. Suggesting a proposal that terrible however should land you a coerced date with Caitlyn Jenner.
  7. Canucks shouldn’t be using Brock as a sweetener to get rid of Eriksson (for a rental). That’s Corky Thatcher levels of retard. I don’t think the Canucks would be able to afford JGP when you consider our long term cap space and what we’d have to give up to get JGP. If we’re talking Ottawa, I’d go Demko and Eriksson for Craig Anderson (Anderson helps us as a back up for the playoff run) and we also get Eriksson off the books. This of course is assuming that Eriksson is scheduled to NOT retire after this season (I’m not sure if Benning and LE have an unspoken agreement of some kind). As far as Boeser goes, Benning has gone on record stating that he has a desire (and even a plan) to recoup the 1st that we have up for Miller. My guess is that if Toffoli impresses here and has a desire to stay here, the Canucks might move Boeser for the 1st (while clearing cap space).
  8. Yikes. Brock might actually be out for the season. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/brock-boeser-out-for-rest-of-regular-season/amp
  9. Yikes. Just saw this. Damn. We can’t move Boeser obviously (would it even be allowed?), and so we obviously shouldn’t move Virtanen right now. Bringing in Tryamkin would be a nice add (ie contract break from his Russian team). If the Canucks need more cap space, you could possibly look at moving Jordie Benn (would have to be at zero retention since we’ll Likely need to retain salary on Sutter and Baertschi when we move them in the off-season towards the end of the summer). Stecher could also be used to clear salary, add a pick, or be used as part of a bigger package to bring in someone (I would avoid bringing in an enforcer, and instead, use it to upgrade our defense). Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Roussel-Gaudette-Eriksson Motte-Beagle-Sutter (Leivo) Eriksson Edler-Stecher Hughes-Tanev Tryamkin-Myers Fantenberg Markstrom Demko
  10. This is news to me. I heard that Boeser was out for 3 weeks. Can you provide a source?
  11. I could see Benning going after an enforcer, but I hope not. They’ve gone the way of the dodo bird. MacEwan is a good enough heavyweight enforcer in my opinion. The Canucks are an injury on D away (Edler, Hughes, or Tanev) from being a mediocre team due to a below average defense. If the Canucks are serious about making the playoffs and possibly winning a round, another top 4 calibre dman is needed.
  12. @Alflives- Dumba is still young and can easily get back to where he was. He could simply be a by product of being part of a bad team, much like Toffoli.
  13. 1) I wasn’t suggesting that we trade both. Just one. 2) Boeser is having an off year (Although his stats aren’t that bad), but so is Dumba. I think it’s fair value. There will always be an interest for a guy like Boeser. GM’s aren’t so short sighted to completely write-off a player based on one year.
  14. Canucks need another top 4 calibre guy just Incase Edler, Tanev, or Hughes gets injured. Myers is borderline, but not a clear cut top 4 calibre guy. Juolevi, Brisebois, and Rafferty aren’t top 4 calibre guys......yet.
  15. [proposal]The Canucks should Trade Boeser or Virtanen for a defenseman before the TDL Miller-Pettersson-[Boeser/Virtanen] Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Will be our top 6. We all know that. However, given that.... A) One of Boeser or Virtanen will be the “odd man out” on that 3rd line. B-) Our defensive depth is still razor thin outside of Edler, Tanev, and Hughes (two of these three of which have a long history of injuries and by miracle, have escaped it thus far this season) I think it would behoove the Canucks to move one of Jake or Brock for a defenseman, and given that Brock will be out for three weeks, I would suggest the long rumored Boeser for Dumba deal, with either side adding some small parts. I’m not really a fan of trading players that are going through personal tragedy (ie Boeser with his father’s illness), but if moving Brock gets him closer to his family, I’d be all for it. With a guy like Dumba here, with Tryamkin on his way here next year, the Canucks could also let Tanev walk in the summer, and use that money to re-up Markstrom and Virtanen. Stecher could also be traded for a pick or unqualified in the off-season. As far as Toffoli goes, I’m actually of the opinion that the Canucks will be likely to sign Toffoli if we get into the playoffs, and we move on from other certain players. Future Canucks Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Hoglander-Gaudette-Podkolzin Motte-Gadjovich-MacEwan Edler-Dumba Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-Myers Markstrom Demko If the Canucks intend to sign Toffoli long term, I believe the following will need to occur: 1) Ferland retires. 2) Stecher is traded for a pick at the draft or is unqualified at season’s end 3) We walk away from Tanev (Tryamkin replaces him) 4) Eriksson either retires after collecting his bonus post July 1st, or is moved with a sweetener (Demko) 5) Baertschi is moved towards the end of the summer at 50% retention. 6) Sutter is moved towards the end of the Summer at 50% retention. If all of the above conditions are met, then I believe that the Canucks can comfortable re-up Toffoli.
  16. Although I like the idea of trading Brock for a defenseman, trading for Weber would be a huge mistake in my opinion. Weber is playing well right now, but that contract could end up being Brent Seabrook part deux given Weber’s age and the length of that contract. Hard pass.
  17. Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-Sutter Edler-Stecher Hughes-Tanev Fantenberg-Myers Markstrom Demko
  18. Sad to lose Madden, but this is a good trade for the Canucks. The Canucks now have a legit good 2nd line with size. I don’t think it will be too difficult to read-sign Toffoli, but I am saddened to lose Madden (hey, that almost rhymed!)
  19. I think you are underrating what Demko and another “1A” goalie (like Mike Smith) would do for our team. The Canucks have the ability to play tighter if they want to.
  20. I’m also of the opinion of hiring Gerard Gallant while punting Travis Green off of a cliff and into the sea.
  21. @Alflives- I’d only consider moving Tanev if it looked like that we’d be able to break Tryamkin’s contract and that he’d come back here. I care about our future, but I still want to make the playoffs this season. Going into full tank mode would hurt the morale of this team and would piss off our core guys like Pettersson, Hughes, and Horvat. That’s obviously not healthy either. Playoff experience is still important. I’m trying to find a way where we can have our cake and eat it too.
  22. Maybe not Pittsburgh. I honestly haven’t looked at some of the playoff bound teams in depth. What I DO know however, is that there are a number of good playoff bound teams that are.... 1) In “win now” mode. 2) Don’t currently have elite goaltending. If that’s not Pittsburgh, then I’m sure there are other teams. Oilers for instance, might be that team.
  23. There are a few playoff bound teams right now that have questionable goaltending and have “1A” calibre goalies (ie better than your typical back-up, but still not a true elite starter). Again, teams like Edmonton and Pittsburgh come to mind. Remember back in 2006 when the Oilers traded a 1st for Dwayne Roloson and then went on a cup run to the finals? Maybe Markstrom has a similar effect. Meanwhile, the Canucks keep Demko, and support Demko with a 1A goalie (ie Demko + new goalie going 50/50 until Demko is ready for more responsibility in the future). I’m not exactly sure what the Canucks would be able to get for Markstrom, but the guy is a Vezina trophy candidate. The Canucks should be able to get an elite prospect of some kind.
  24. 1) We could get a terrific return on Marky. 2) Marky is 30 and will be looking for a long term deal. Keeping Markstrom and Tanev will be better for the Canucks in the short term, but committing to guys like Demko, Virtanen, Stecher, Leivo, Gaudette, and Tryamkin could be more beneficial for us in the long term. By letting go of guys like Markstrom and Tanev, it would allow for the Canucks to have more cap space and hence, sign those other guys to longer term deals..........which could give the Canucks a chance to have many of thode contracts be huge bargain contracts at some point. Meanwhile, filling in the prospect pool on our returns from Markstrom and Tanev while still making the playoffs this season. Committing to Markstrom and Tanev would make our window of a similar length to the 2008-213 Gillis era, whereas I would rather see us be like the Pittsburgh Penguins (ie dominate for a decade+).
