Are you special needs? Tkachuk fought Kassian in the game after. He even challenged Kassian first. Kass denied the first invite and then accepted the 2nd one. Trust me - I don’t like Tkachuk or the Flames, but that doesn’t mean that you can go around making $&!# up. If you want to credibility on here, you have to call a spade a spade.

Jake Virtanen + something small for Sam Reinhart?

If the Canucks are to be buyers this year, I think they should consider a Gaudette + Stecher + 2nd rounder for a defenseman (which defenseman that may be, I’m not sure). 1) In the short term, Gaudette can easily be replaced by Sutter at center. In the long term, Madden can replace Gaudette at center (for example - when Sutter’s contract runs out, the Canucks can simply walk away from Sutter and call up Madden). Things are obviously not guaranteed to pan out that way, but I think the odds are strong enough to take a calculated risk. 2) Given our cap situation, the Canucks will likely have to walk away from Stecher anyways. Our defense for the playoffs would be quite strong. Edler-NewGuy Hughes-Tanev Fantenberg-Myers Benn So - who is the #NewGuy? I’m not sure Ristolainen? Do you have any suggestions?

I don’t know..... I mean, there are a number of points that I agree with you on, but it also sounds to me like you’re making apologies for the Canucks having great goaltending, and having great goaltending contributing to many of their wins. A win is a win. I wonder how many Oiler fans out there are making apologies for riding McDavid and Draisaitl. I would be more critical of the Canucks if they were in their “cup window” right now, but they aren’t. The Canucks, as an organization, are in a similar spot to where they were in 2000-2001 and 2006-2007 (ie a work in progress team that still has holes, but has seemingly left the dark days behind them). The Canucks likely won’t get past the 2nd round, and may not even get past the 1st round if they do make the playoffs, but they are far better than you are giving credit. Outside of Vegas, St.Louis, and perhaps Colorado, all of the teams in the Western Conference and the Pacific division have significant holes.

[Proposal] Mental Exercise: Boeser for Brady Tkachuk
Patel Bure replied to Maddogy's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Senators would easily say no. -
The only team that would “slaughter” the Canucks in the first round is Vegas (ie a team that seema eerily similar to the modern day version of the 2012-2014 Kings). The Canucks would hold their own against the Oilers, Flames, or Yotes, and those series’ would go either way. But again though - no one is saying that the Canucks are a contender right now. We are still a work in progress. Our “elite window” will start in 2021-2022. This season will be considered a success if we make the playoffs. Anything beyond that is gravy. Sounds to me like you belong with the HF Canuck tank crowd. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I do not consider you to be an objective fan despite what you might be thinking.

HF Tank Canuck nation is absolutely reeling right now. They are praying for an injury to happen to one of Edler, Tanev, or Hughes so that the Canucks possibly freefall (which then allows them to say, “I told you so.”). A lot of the HF crowd (ie MS, Y2K, Jack Burton) are also hiding on Reddit Canucks with their alternate handles so that they can cheer the Canucks openly without apology. JD Burke has also (unsurprisingly) been silent lately as well.

Conditionals are pointless and stupid. IF my aunt had nuts, she’d be my uncle. However, she doesn’t and so it’s a pointless statement to make. Ditto for the Canucks and their goaltending. On top of that, the Canucks are still a work in progress (as opposed to an elite team “finished” product like the Canucks were between 2010-2013) and so it’s expected that the Canucks will have some limitations as a team. I don’t recall any Canuck fans making “conditional” statements in 2006-2007 or 2000-2001 when the Canucks were winning games that they probably shouldn’t have. Back then, fans were just happy that we were stealing games, and that we were trending upwards as an organization (after having experienced a stretch of dark years).

I’m not sure if it’s a case of Boeser being demoted as it is with Green simply rewarding Virtanen. Boeser hasn’t been bad, but Virtanen has been outperforming him.

Proposal: bold trades for a 2020 Cup Contender
Patel Bure replied to kenhodgejr's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I suggested Pageau for the following reasons: 1) Great playoff performer. 2) Excellent two way center. Would give the Canucks three legit scoring lines. As much as I love Gaudette, his line isn’t producing much offense. 3) If the Canucks could trade away players that don’t fit into their future plans (Stecher, Baertschi, etc.) for a rental, then it’s a risk that I’d be willing to take. -

I’d rather keep Virtanen. Virtanen is much younger and cheaper than Toffoli and likely isn’t that far off from Toffoli level wise these days. Trading Boeser would be dumb(a) since it would deplete our right side.....especially if we get injuries. Boeser is a legit top winger. Would you really want to put all of your chips on a mediocre Zucker, an aging Eriksson, and a developing but still unproven Virtanen? -
LOL. well ok then. My bad. Unfortunately, your guess is as good as mine. If the Canucks surrender term (ie dish out an unfavorable term.....somewhere along the lines of 6-7 years), then I think we could have Markstrom at around 5.75-6 million, but I honestly have no idea). On the flip side of this, I think the Canucks would be looking at 6.5-7 million if we have put a term 5 years or less. Again though - I’m just guessing.

Signing a player to an AAV contract that would be lower than what he’d get on the open market. Said player agrees to a contract like this due to other factors and benefits (ie favorable term, playing with the expectation that he’d be playing for a contender and as result, is willing to help his team save money to sign other players that would also take slightly less money, etc.).
-
Here’s how I see things playing out over these next few years: 1) Markstrom is here to stay. The Canucks will surrender term to get Marky to agree to a below market value cap hit. Dipietro *might* become the replacement way down the road. Demko will eventually be moved as a sweetener to move Eriksson, If Eriksson doesn’t retire after this season. Marky will get a 6 year deal. 2) Tanev is here to stay. Again - the Canucks will surrender term so that the AAV stays low. Tanev will get a 3 year deal. 3) Rafferty replaces Stecher. Stecher will be moved for a draft pick in the off-season, or will not be qualified. 4) Tryamkin replaces Fantenberg. 5) Schaller gets replaced by MacEwan or a large minimum contract. 6) Baertschi will get moved at 50% retention in the off-season for a draft pick. 7) Sutter will get moved at 50% retention in the off-season for a draft pick. Gaudette has already replaced Sutter. 8) Jamie Benn gets traded in the off season for a draft pick. Is replaced by a league minimum contract, or by someone like Guillame Brisebois. 9) Pearson or Roussel will be moved or unsigned to make room for Hoglander when Hoglander is ready. 10) Tyler Myers will be exposed in the Expansion draft.

Playmate for Boeser: Miller-Pettersson-Virtanen Pearson-Horvat-Eriksson Roussel-Pageau-Boeser Ferland-Beagle-Gaudette Hughes-Tanev Edler-Myers Tryamkin-Fantenberg Sutter can’t make plays out of a wet paper bag, while Gaudette and Boeser dont really mix. The Canucks 3rd line scoring is a bit weak. They need a guy that is offensively gifted enough to play with Boeser, but can also play very well defensively. Pageau is a proven playoff performer.
-
Rafferty replaces Stecher in the line-up. Losing Stecher would suck obviously, but the Canucks would get a proven playoff performer, and a good two way center that could also help set up Brock on the 3rd line (or Jake if the Canucks went back to putting Brock on the top line). With JPG in the line-up, you’d have to think that the Canucks would have three dangerous scoring lines. With our upcoming cap crunch, the Canucks will likely lose Stecher anyways (via trade or choosing not to qualify). While it’s true that JPG would become a UFA at season’s end (and we likely wouldn’t be able to afford him), my proposed deal would allow us to move two assets (Baertschi and Stecher) that likely won’t be in our future plans anyways. And so essentially - the trade would boil down to a 2nd for JPG as a rental.

No to Tanev for Barrie. We need Tanev to take on the tough defensive match-ups and be a stabilizing presence on the back-end.

I think the Canucks have a tough enough team already to be honest. Hopefully, a healthy Ferland and a returning Tryamkin can help us in this area over these next few months.
