  1. The Vancouver Whitecaps made the playoffs this year despite a terrible start..............what were their odds of making the playoffs at their lowest point? I'm not saying that what you're saying is without concern, but rather, it's still only mid-November as you say. The Canucks should have gone 3-0 on this latest homestand. And hey - we killed some penalties last night. We are improving, and it's up to the Canucks to decide if it's too little too late or not.
  2. I actually don’t mind the moves that the Canucks made in the 2018 and 2019 off seasons since a large part of a young players development is in gaining valuable playoff experience. Beagle, Roussel, and Player Name, for all of their warts, provided the Canucks with some pretty good defensive play. Beagle gave us an edge on the PK while Pearson-Horvat-Player Name was a very good shut down line. Miller also played a large role in our 2020 bubble post season. Benning made all the right moves in my opinion........although I still think that he could have found a way to keep Toffoli. Given all of these transitional contracts, I think most people assumed that our 2020-2021 season would be Benning’s version of 2007-2008, but this current season is just so disappointing. I know guys like Thomas Drance, The Athletic, JD Burke, Sportsnet 650, and HF Canucks are using our current struggles as an opportunity to say, “I told you so,” but even those guys were wrong: -They predicted that OEL, and a potential OEL-Myers pairing would be a train wreck. -They predicted that we’d get caved in 5 on 5. -They predicted that our PP would be one of our only reasons for keeping games close -They predicted that all three of Pettersson, Boeser, and Dickinson would be the least of our problems. The only thing “they” got right was our PK (although they didn’t predict that it would be this bad). Our timeline for rebuilding this team was right on par with most other successful rebuilds and this season was supposed to be our coming out party.........and it’s been anything but. Benning put his chips on Pettersson and Boeser and it blew up badly in his face. Silly him?
  3. If the Canucks were playoff bound this year, I would have suggested taking a look at Connor Murphy (we would give them Rathbone + another prospect), but I think we have to be realistic now unfortunately. The Canucks probably won’t make the playoffs this year and they probably should be looking to sell rather than buy. This needed to be Benning’s version of the 2008-2009 Canucks season and it’s now looking to be his version of the dreaded 1997-1998 season. I hate to say this but we should probably trade all three of Miller, Horvat, and Boeser at the deadline while relieving both Green and Benning of their duties after our 82nd game (I throw Boeser in this category as well because his QO will be 7.5 million, and he’s not even worth half of that right now unfortunately).
  4. That would be fantastic if Miller could do that, but Schneider himself has some massive value being a young “defensive minded” RD. Schneider is probably the most coveted young defensive RD out there outside of Seider (untouchable), Dobson (untouchable), and Cernak (untouchable). Schneider++ for Miller would be tremendous obviously but I would also consider Miller for Schneider one for one a pretty big win for our organization as well.
  5. Agreed that Green’s systems and line combo decisions are at fault (#NateSchmidt), but can you honestly say that guys like Petey and Boeser are giving it their all? Green or no Green, these guys look like dog crap out there. Guys like Miller, Garland, Podkolzin, Hoglander, and Demko are also playing under Green and are playing up to their potential. Having said that, I want Green to roll out the following: Pettersson-Horvat-Boeser Podkolzin-Miller-Garland Pearson-Dickinson-Hoglander
  6. Fair enough, lol. I think the crappiness of my proposal is simply related to my utter confusion of this current team. I don't know why Pettersson, Boeser, and Dickinson have fallen off a cliff. Even guys like Horvat and Pearson can play better. It's just mind boggling.
  7. Those models probably underrated the impact of a newly motivated OEL, along with a very underrated OEL-Myers pairing. Those models also probably underrated our 5 on 5 play. Had Petey, Brock, Dickinson, and our Power play held up their part of the bargain, we would have been a playoff team. Everyone knew that our PK was going to be bad but not this bad.
  8. I was expecting them to be a #4 seed in the division and #7/#8 overall in the conference, losing in the first round. I thought that their top two RD's would be their downfall. For the life of me, I did not expect Pettersson, Boeser, and Dickinson to be this bad. It's just mind boggling, and something that I did not expect.
  9. Did Thomas Drance or MS tell you to write this? :-(
  10. To Montreal: -Petey -Boeser To Vancouver: -Hindu Dvorak -Josh Anderson -2023 1st
  11. Nothing. Hirsch is more full of crap than a toddler’s diaper.
  12. Yes for our future. Again, this trade suggestion is for the trade deadline and only under the assumption that we are out of contention while the Rags are likely playoff bound.
  13. Not trading him now. I want the Canucks to give it their all between now and the trade deadline to make the playoffs. My suggestion for this trade is at the trade deadline if we are out of contention (while the Rags in this hypothetical would be a dark horse).
  14. What made me really upset with Bailey was how he was laughing and joking with some Colorado players during the road game where they were shellacking us 7-1.
  15. [proposal] Does JT Miller get you Braden Schneider? Assuming of course that the Canucks fall to the wayside here in their playoff hopes while the Rangers continue to stay in contention.
  16. My Erikss0nEk jab was tongue in cheek. :-p
  17. I'd love to see that but I can't see the Wild going for that. Wild are in 'win now' mode so I can't see them taking a guy that won't help them much at current. It's Lammiko for Erikss0n-Ek or bust as far as I'm concerned.
  18. I think a part of seems to be that we are too afraid to make a mistake out there. On our PP, it seems like we often play to “not make a mistake” rather than “playing to harass the goalie.”
  19. Barrie is 100% correct. That goal that Barrie scored on the PP last night was a direct result of all three. I was fortunate enough to flipping channels last night and caught the Oilers PP goal. What makes Edmonton particularly scary right now is that McDavid draws penalties like nobody’s business. He’s just so fast out there. Oilers then get on the PP and dominate. These guys have arguably the two best centers in the game right now (debatable because of MacKinnon) and their defense is a lot better this year as well. Like their 2006 counterparts, these guys could make a cup run if they get a top goalie.
  20. I highly doubt that Benning would do that, but IF the Canucks go on a tear between now and the trade deadline and are either in the #4 spot or are within reasonable striking distance, then yeah, I could definitely see Benning moving a 1st for help this season similar to what the Oilers did in 2006 when they acquired Dwayne Roloson at that time. On the flip side however, I can also see Benning moving Boeser for a 1st and/or elite prospect at the deadline if the Canucks are way out of a playoff spot. Boeser QO at the end of this season will be 7.5 million and so I don’t know if Benning will want to pay Boeser by that amount.......although the way Benning treats Boeser could also have an impact on Pettersson’s future decisions? Who knows. All I know is that for now, the Canucks have to take it one game at a time. Even though we stunk last year, we still managed to have an 8-3-2 stretch of good hockey. We need to have that stretch right now. One game is already out of the way, so if we were to go 7-3-2 over the next 11, we would be 13-13-4 which would likely get us back into the conversation for the number 4 spot with another 52 games to be played.
  21. Let the cowards have their "tank" and "statistical probability" threads. The players on the other hand? They are going to do whatever they can do turn this ship around. Whatever happens will happen and decisions will be made accordingly at the trade deadline. The Canucks have struggled this year obviously but have played two of their best games these past two games. They are still fragile but they are already starting to look better.
  22. Yes, I would support a rebuild. Miller, Horvat, and Boeser all moved at the trade deadline for 1st's and prospects. Having said that, I think the above (and this thread in general) is garbage because the Canucks are going to be a playoff team at the trade deadline (or within striking distance).
  23. Myers and Miller probably qualify as being a part of that 'mature' group as would Tanner Pearson. Guys like OEL, Halak, and Chiasson, despite being new, should bring valuable intangibles to the lockerroom at least in theory. People at HF, The Athletic, and some other media members and posters look at our lack of success and stand there with an "I told you so" look on their faces, but I'm here to combat them and say........no......you didn't "say so." What you guys said was....... 1) OEL would be a train wreck, and the OEL-Myers pairing would be a train wreck defensively 2) We would be weak 5 on 5. 3) We would be heavily reliant on our PP 4) Pettersson and Boeser would be the least of our problems. The only thing "they" got right, was that our PK would be brutal. "They" predicted that Jason Dickinson would be a significant upgrade over all three of Sutter, Beagle, and Gaudette since most of his defensive metrics from an advanced analytics perspective were quite favourable.
  24. A lot of it has to do with our media. Guys like JD Burke and Thomas Drance are flat out cancerous and a menace to Canucks hockey coverage. And then of course, you have the toxic Canucks hockey community over at the HFboards.
