Linden himself would tell you that the twins are the greatest Canucks of all-time. Henrik = highest point totals in franchise history, our only Hart Trophy winner, captain, and one of two players in Canucks history to get over 1,000 points (yeah yeah Messier, lol). Henrik Sedin is the greatest Canuck of all-time, head over heels.

Thank you for the name drop. :-p And yes, this question is far more specific without the added element of context which can naturally lead to confusion. The answer for this one, for me, is Henrik Sedin. -Our only Hart trophy winner in franchise history -Highest point total in Canucks history -Highest point total in a given season in Canucks history -Served as captain of the Canucks It’s Henrik Sedin by a landslide and I’m not even sure how this is even debatable.

[Signing] Panthers sign Joe Thornton
Patel Bure replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Florida is a smart pick. Lots of good pieces on that team. -
I do believe that IF 1) Podkolzin emerges as a legit top 6 forward this season AND 2) Someone like Klimovich emerges from the farm to the point where management sees him as a realistic 3rd line RW option next season (or, basically in the same spot that Podkolzin has been penciled in this season) THEN Boeser would be used as a trading piece. Like Boeser to NYI for Ryan Pulock..........and yes, I have now officially hijacked this thread a la Bane 2012 style.

Marner isn’t a natural center. Why trade for a guy and then not play him in his most natural position?

[DEBATE] Which Canuck player in their prime are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
1) Both Kobe and Jake are/were victims of false sexual allegations by women looking for a big payday. Pat Kane was also a victim of this. 2) The difference between Kobe and Virtanen is that Kobe worked his absolute butt off to become one of the greatest NBA player of all-time. No one was more committed to his craft than Kobe. By contrast, Jake had a very poor work ethic and did little to nothing to improve himself. 3) Jim Benning wasn’t one of the greatest Canucks of all-time like Linden was and so he’s not really relevant to this conversation. Didn’t Benning (the player) leave as a UFA? 4) My issues with both Kesler and Lebron is that they both left their teams at the first sign of trending downwards. They escaped to greener pastures instead of sticking around the try and “right the ship.” There’s nothing wrong with doing wanting to win championships, but there’s a certain way that you request making trades. Jarome Iginla and Ray Bourque are perfect example of how high character men can request trades to go win a championship without burying their teams in the dirt. In the case of both Iggy and Bourque, they stuck around for many years on bad teams and made their requests to be traded in a classy and elegant manner. Kesler told everyone at the 2014 Olympics that he wanted out of Vancouver while Lebron stabbed Cleveland in the back twice (once publicly on ESPN when Cleveland found out for the first time that him, Bosh, and Wade were headed to Miami). Lebron dumped Miami as well. -

Would guys like Mogilny 95/96, Bertuzzi 2002/03, and early 90's Linden really be considered 'joke answers?' What about 2006/2007 Luongo? Or 1994 Kirk McLean? 2001/2002 Naslund? 2011 Kesler? 2020 Horvat? 2005-2014 Sedin twins? Early 80's Stan Smyl? ............dare I say, 2020 Bubble Demko? -
Canucks requiring covid vaccination for staff and fans
Patel Bure replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
It really shouldn't be in my opinion. Choosing not to get vaccinated during a national and global pandemic is unbelievably selfish and ignorant. In many ways, refusing to take the vaccine is the equivalent of leaving your fellow soldiers out to dry in war. We are all Canadian and we have a civic duty to be there for one another and protect one another. -
[DEBATE] Which VANCOUVER CANUCKS team are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
I don’t necessarily disagree but it doesn’t change the fact that this team dicked around that entire regular season and weren’t playing to their full capabilities (although as addressed earlier in the thread, someone pointed out that it took a little while for the Canucks to gel as a team a bit once they made those deadline deals........along with the fact that Nedved held out that year). -
Canucks requiring covid vaccination for staff and fans
Patel Bure replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
All teams should require and mandate vaccination for staff and fans in my opinion. If it was up to me, those refusing to be vaccinated would be heavily fined and possibly jailed. -

Ohlund would be a good choice as well but the current Canucks are in dire need of a top pairing RIGHT sided dman that can shut down. -
[DEBATE] Which Canuck player in their prime are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Agreed that our management during the Bure era was off the walls Moronic whether it was the Bure treatment, letting Ronning walk, attempting phone sex with Gretzky at midnight, etc., etc. Having said that, I’m not entirely sure if I agree with this notion that Bure was “very much a team player.” There is a reason why Bure started to get a bad rep in Florida as being a guy that only cared about scoring goals and nothing else. -

My reference to 2012 was to simply highlight that a healthy Canuck team was more than capable of lighting up Tim Thomas. -

Agree with you about Kesler being a clutch player. His series against Nashville was a thing of beauty, as was his performance during the 2010 Olympics. Agreed with you that injuries hampered him during that 2011 run after the Nashville series. -
[DEBATE] Which Canuck player in their prime are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
I see what you’re saying, but I can flip it and say “show me a team that won a Stanley Cup (or multiple Stanley Cups) that DIDN’T have character players......and/or fully comprised of superstar/HoF flame players that lacked character. To win a Stanley Cup, teams need both character players and superstar players, both of which can possibly become Hall of Famers. For me personally however, if I am *starting* a team from scratch, I would rather build a team around character non-Hall of Fame players, and then acquire Hall of Fame level talents with questionable characters later (if that makes sense). I would choose non-hall of fame character over hall of fame level talent flakiness if I had to choose one over the other......IF I was building a team from scratch. But obviously - teams that win multiple cups will have Hall of Fame talents on them. You and I might not even be arguing about the same thing? Put it this way: Even though Bure was a better player than Linden, I’d rather have a team full of Linden’s than a team full of Bure’s if I’m going to war and am going for a cup. -
[DEBATE] Which VANCOUVER CANUCKS team are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
The Sedins and a lot of those guys (Bieksa, Salo, etc.) were high character players as well. The biggest difference between Linden and the twins however, is that Linden consistently elevated his game when it mattered most while the twins did NOT. -
[DEBATE] Which VANCOUVER CANUCKS team are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Thomas played well but it had far more to do with the Canucks being beat up from the accumulative playoff wear and tear. Nucks scored 3 goals in game 2, and scored 4 goals in that game against Boston in 2012. -
[DEBATE] Which Canuck player in their prime are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
If we're only talking about on-ice performance, then yes, Bure hands down. If we're talking about on-ice performance, plus leadership on and off the ice, plus putting the team ahead of oneself, then it's Linden all the way. In my opinion. My Yzerman/Fedorov analogy wasn't a good one because I had erroneously assumed that Fedorov had a higher PPG than Yzerman during his time in Detroit. Ultimately however, for me, it boils down to WHEN you are selecting "A Canuck player in his prime." If you're picking a player to build your team around and build a foundation, I'd go with Linden. If you already have an established team with good leadership and are looking for a missing piece, I'd easily go with Bure or Mogilny. -

Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
In Bure's defense, Bure was also a clutch player and he was also being triple teamed in that Rangers series. What separates Bure and Linden for me however, is that Bure cared more about himself while Linden cared more about his teammates. -

Live and die for your teammates? Not wanting to leave when the team starts to trend downwards? Putting the team ahead of one's individual wants and needs? The Sedin twins, Linden, Kobe Bryant....these guys. By contrast, - Kesler, Lebron James, etc. -

[DEBATE] Which VANCOUVER CANUCKS team are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Did they really though? Keep in mind that the 1994 team grossly underachieved during the regular season and didn't play anywhere near up to the abilities that they had displayed in the prior seasons. The 1994 team got hot, had a helluva playoffs, and stuck up for one another, but would character really be the best way to define them? I'm not so sure. They played with a lot of heart and grit when it mattered most however. -
Keep him and then let him walk if we don't have the cap space to sign him at that time.

[DEBATE] Which Canuck player in their prime are you taking?
Patel Bure replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
In answering this question, it would also depend as to WHEN you are supposedly "taking a player in their prime" in this hypothetical context. -If I'm building a team from scratch and am looking to establish a foundation, then I go with Linden. -If I'm selecting a player who is meant to be "the missing piece," then I'd probably go with 95/96 Mogilny or the 2nd and 3rd seasons of Bure when he had those back to back 60 goal seasons.
