  1. Disappointed but not surprised by the low ball offer (and acceptance), as the term, cap hit, and Benning dealing from a position of weakness were always going to be factors, but the good news is that we now have an extra 5.95 million to play with. Benning will likely need to bring out the knee pads and Leipsic in order to convince one of Savard or Hakanpaa to sign with us, but either one of those guys would help us quite a bit. My guess is that Hamonic will go to the Oilers.
  2. Wish him all the best but he's not someone we need. We need a stay at homer and Roggan just isn't that type of dman. Hopefully, he gets a decent shot on a team like Detroit, Arizona, or Buffalo.
  3. Dhaliwal = troll. While the Canucks have given up a high Number of picks, they don’t seem to talk about the fact that many of our picks and prospects in our developmental system successfully transitioned into our system. Demko, Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Hoglander, Podkolzin (this coming year), Rathbone, Juolevi, and MacEwen. Even guys like Virtanen and Tryamkin who are no longer here made the team. Markstrom was developed in the AHL the correct way as well.
  4. Zack Whitecloud and a 2nd would be a great deal for the Canucks. Will possibly change my handle name to Zack Browncloud if this occurs. :-p
  5. Respectfully disagree. I think two solid goalies are needed in today's NHL to succeed, unless the goalie is an off the charts superstar like Vasilevsky.
  6. Yikes. No I was not aware of that at all. Do you have a source or a link for where you heard this?
  7. That would be a pretty good deal for us. Whitecloud is a solid young defensive defenseman that could be both a short term and long term piece for us.
  8. Here's my thing with Schmidt: While I definitely understand and sympathize as to why he was unhappy last season (covid restrictions, lack of PP time, not having a great partner), none of those issues should be there this season: 1) Covid restrictions will be far less this season in both Vancouver and Canada in general. 2) Schmidt would be slated to play with OEL 3) The 2nd line of ours will be a pure scoring line this season. Miller-Pettersson Boeser / Hoglander-Horvat-Garland, and so Schmidt will likely have talented scorers in front of him no matter when he's playing. 4) The Canucks should be able to field a solid 2nd line PP unit. PP1 = Boeser-Horvat-Pettersson / Myers-Hughes PP2 = Garland-Miller-Hoglander / OEL-Schmidt
  9. On the flip side however, what would become of Dipietro is Halak signed a multi-year deal? Dipietro should be good to go starting in 22-23.
  10. Good. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Luke Schenn. Thank you for your five games of fame holding Hughes' hand a few years back. David Savard - please come on down!
  11. Exactly. Will be interesting to see what money and term Halak comes at. Would Halak be willing to accept a one year deal? I'm not entirely sure...
  12. https://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/canucks_2020_21_season_report_card_tyler_myers/s1_16448_35413400 @stawns
  13. I might be wrong here but I think it was the Advanced Analytics that pointed to Myers being horrid defensively. Will try and find the link later.
  14. Myers isn’t the greatest defensively and his terrible defensive game would be exposed on a top pairing. OEL was a good two way all situations dman around 2015-2016, but he’s been more of an OFD since then as he himself has often struggled in his own end. I would love to be proven wrong obviously but I think OEL is going to need a partner that is very strong defensively. Myers, on a 3rd pairing, will to play with a guy that has more of a two-way style as well. OEL-[SchmidtTrade] Hughes[SavardorHakanpaa] Juolevi-Myers [Schenn] The Canucks need to absolutely nail the Schmidt trade imo. Boeser + Schmidt + Rathbone for [BoeserValueDefenseman + SchmidtValueForward + RathboneValueForward] would be ideal imo. A good ol’ hockey deal.
  15. I’m not sure if they really are tearing it down. Voraceck for Atkinson is a lateral move while Boqvist for Jones isn’t as far off as a lateral move as one might think since Boqvist is pretty much ready now. They might have more interest in Schmidt than we think? Having said that, there’s no way they accept Schmidt for Werenski.
  16. Do we know for a fact that Tkachuk is a bad apple in the dressing room? All we know is that there’s a rift in that lockerroom. We’ve seen how important size and physicality is when it comes to the playoffs. While Tkachuk had an off year this past season, he produced 34 goals the year prior and was hitting everything in sight. We can laugh all we want about how he turtled against Kassian, but he also fought Kassian face to face. Tkachuk is no different than Claude Lemieux in this regard and I think we all would have wanted a prime Claude Lemieux. Im not 100% sure if Schmidt just doesn’t want to play in Canada or just Vancouver, but Calgary also needs a Gio replacement.
  17. After thinking about this a bit more, I think I could possibly get onboard with this.
  18. Hamilton would be nice but would we still have enough money left over to extend all of Petey, Hughes, Dickinson, and Garland? Also, playing OEL and Hughes on the same pairing together would be diaharrea defensively.
  19. That OEL-Myers pairing would be a train wreck defensively.
  20. Agreed, and also agree that signing just one of them would be a big win. I still hope we can trade Schmidt for equivalent value, even if it means packaging with one of our wingers in a true “hockey deal” where we’d get a winger and a dman in return as well (I would have done Boeser and Schmidt for Andersson and Tkachuk but I think Schmidt won’t waive unless it’s for an American team). OEL-[SchmidtTrade] Hughes-[SavardORHakanpaa] Juolevi-Myers Schenn Is my hope.
  21. Finally, a common sense post. I like your thought here a lot but Schmidt wants to leave unfortunately. Replace Schmidt with Hakanpaa and I’m all for it. OEL-Hakanpaa Hughes-Savard Juolevi-Myers Schenn = solid even if I’m being unrealistic. OEL-Hamonic Hughes-Schenn Juolevi-Myers = possibly asking for trouble
  22. Schmidt doesn’t want to be here. He wants to go back to America because there are less Covid restrictions over there.
