  1. Thing is he isn’t under contract. The RFA approach of retaining rights to players does not mean they are under contract, it just means that while the player plays in North America that team has their rights. RFA and rights holding are not global
  2. Except we don’t wear it with pride, and the royals didn’t have much to do with it, the majority of the empire was built by parliament not by the monarch. also ‘loving the royals’ isn’t a tacit endorsement of past crimes of a nation One of the key differences is that England acknowledges its past so it’s often more discussed than some countries who have buried that chapter in their history.
  3. Over here it’s proof of two vaccines and/or a negative test from a list of specific providers within 48 hours of the event. while it isn’t foolproof it seems on the whole to not being causing super spreader events like the Liverpool athletic match or Cheltenham fesrival wirh 240,000 spectators during the start of the pandemic as evidenced by the 140k who were at silverstone in July. im of the view that COVID passports shouldn’t become the norm but not because I’m anti vax. It often can be treated as a binary thing either you have been vaccinated or not, however there will be people who cannot who will be locked out of society, so it discriminates against a group who already suffer discrimination, it likely will impact pregnant mothers or new parents who haven’t been vaccinated yet. also not sure if Canada roll out but in the UK the youngest groups were the last to be vaccinated meaning that while the are able to go and work in the venues and serve in the venues and events they are not allowed to attend them as spectators as they won’t have had the two doses as of yet. I think if you go down the COVID passport route it needs to be clear and sensible with alternate means of gaining entry ie proof of negative test from set suppliers paid for by the individual, or some level of state provided exception notification.
  4. Spook tbh in Scotland the sky is always grey going in dark except for that one afternoon called summer and in Vancouver it rains on average 192 days a year which is more than Wales, England and Lowland Scotland
  5. It’s more that pulling the goalie and adding an extra skater increases the odds of you scoring, yes it massively increases the odds of a goal against, but late in a game if you are trailing, an extra goal against when you are already going to lose doesn’t really make a huge difference especially as the number of games and lack of importance of goal difference. Increasing you chance of getting to OT and getting a point is worth the risk.
  6. Having sat and thought about this after all the initial knee jerk reactions have calmed a bit, I do like this trade. While it may have traded short term pain for a potential longer term problem we got a great player back in Garland (which is the main piece in the trade) and even if OEL stinks it out, we probably could ship him out if we retained as OEL at 6m someone would probably bite on, especially with the going rate for D men while I doubt we could have got Garland and Chychrun it would have been nice if instead of OEL we got Chychrun as while he has decent playmaking skills we already have QH and JR who excel there, but he is more sound defensively than OEL and age fits the core better. But I’m guessing if we wanted Chychrun we wouldn’t have got Garland
  7. Latvia might actually be the lower one, not because it’s bad, but because it suffers top talent drain into the KHL and Dynamo Riga, and youth poaching by the MHL Riga team.
  8. People put to much stock in toughness being a goon on ice, just as they put to much stock in points/goals and overlook that there are other types of players who don’t get points to show their worth. for me it’s not about individual toughness it’s about the team ability to make it difficult to play against. Having Dickie in the lineup really helps that, Hoglander and Motte are absolute pests buzzing around and making life difficult, Garland is in the same mould but with a higher end play. by taking teams time and space away on the puck it makes it hard for them to play, makes them frustrated. This is more important than someone who can throw haymakers after an event has happened. Plus the best time to turnover the puck is right after a player has recieved the puck whether from a turnover themselves or a pass. By pressing quickly rather than sitting off you get a better chance of disrupting the play. We now have a few players with the motor who can play that game.
  9. I think it’s because it’s used as a conditioning league to get players ready for the NHL. Quality wise other leagues are better but as a place to mould young players it’s pretty good and allows teams to keep a closer eye on the prospects. That said I would like the NHL to work out deals with some European leagues similar to how the QMJHL deal works whereby European players will get sent down to a European league. Help maintain the integrity of those leagues and allow players to develop their skills in a more competitive environment. Would also be nice if NHL teams paid some compensation for the development work done in the European clubs prior to them being poached via a draft.
  10. If you haven’t got a Spanish team I would recommend at least watching a few Athletic Bilbao games. Whilst they are not Barcelona, Real Madrid or Athletico Madrid they have a good youth philosophy and they are a good team to watch.
  11. Doesn’t work that way getting that player wouldn’t make the team compliant, you still have to fit them in under the cap initially, you would still need to find 6 mill to fit them in, then you could exceed by that 6 mill, you cannot add another 6 making it 11 mill over yet be compliant
  12. Let’s say we have 15 mill in cap space remaining we can exceed cap space by 3.5m due to Ferlands LTIR. That gives us essentially 18.5 mill to use great. if we traded him for future consideration we would be able to take that cap hit off us, giving us 18.5 million in space to use, except we wouldn’t lose space due to it not being exact and not having to fudge the cap on day one
  13. Ferland and a 5th should do it with them retaining...... am I do this right
  14. Brutal. I get decent point producing D men are useful and you need some of them on the team, But as long as you have a serviceable puck mover you would be better served pumping the money into shut down D who can play 25 minutes a night against top parings.
  15. Probably Espositos followed by the Niedermayers then Sedins. while the Sedins were great and in their prime window were great their prime took a while to get to, the Niedermayers were better for longer and the Espositos are the better players here
  16. 5.75 is a great contract he is 5 years younger than Tanev and is a better shutdown player. He plays 20+ mins and is a primary matchup shutdown D. He is the kind of D you need to win championships
  17. Got to be Stoke - he has yet to prove he can do it on a cold wet Tuesday night in Stoke. Ronaldo has proved that has Messi?
