The penalty aspect would be to try and limit teams using it as a cap circumvention, which it does a reasonable job of doing. but I agree with 4pete - if a player is Long term injured there is a chance they may not recover but there is still an expectation that they could, if a player decides to call it a day they should be allowed to retire, have the cap cleared off the teams book and also collect the remainder of their contract. I cannot imagine having to be LTIRetired is a great place to be when there will still be mandatory checks with doctors, still having to do the random drug testing. I’m not sure how that system works but in the UK the system is that you basically have to provide your whereabouts for an hour a day everyday in advance, which is onerous and a missed test is seen as not just administers but as actively trying to hide. 3 missed and you are banned. which I believe is similar to what USADA do.

For me I would want to play against them not with them with rivalry, you want to be competitive and prove whose best, let’s be on the ice together against each other. for me the risk would be him wanting to play for a team in the Met division not the Devils -

You are in the earliest cohort of millennials but you are a millennial for all demographic purposes. Not just that there are more millennials closer to your age then their are closer to Genz -
Pretty much, shake it off or run it off.

Yep while I don’t have that many after effects there are the odd one or two days where it’s just not great. looking back when I was growing up there were multiple times when I was playing rugby while concussed, worst situation was when I was playing in an England regional team against Wales as a Colt and for some reason was the only scrum half in the squad, played 3/4 a game while concussed. Got a couple when playing hockey for uni as well both from being boarded

[Signing] Jets re-sign Logan Stanley

Good signing and at decent place. Yes he isn’t the most dynamic of players but he is an absolute monster of a crease clearer and does that role very well -

You do realise that EP isn’t a millennial -
Call me a cynic but they will have the report, I doubt it will really do a full investigation and the public conclusion was that we made mistakes but couldn’t have known that at the time and will do better next time. if the report actually is serious I bet all the key details are redacted anyway making the public version basically a few words and a lot of black marker

Hockey in the Olympic is only one of the events yes in Canada it is the event, but for most Europeans the Downhill is probably bigger, for the Norwegians the Biathalon and cross country events are bigger. For Germany the ski jumping is bigger than the hockey. for Korea and Japan the skiing holds higher regards as well. yes it’s a big event but you are seeing it through the eyes of a Canadian. Withdrawing from the hockey makes no different to the overall outcome or the CCP. The gold medal at the Winter Olympics for hockey has been devalued for a long while now simply because it’s not the best players in each team because of the NHL embargoes. a top tier nation probably could compete against Canada quite well, a top tier nation using its second string of players vs Canada’s second string usually goes one way.

He hasn’t emptied the prospect cupboard, there are still some promising players coming through. If it’s less full than it was it’s not because it’s all been traded away, it’s because a significant number have hit the team, and then kept their spot. EP, QH, BB, Hoglander, Podz, Rathbone, Demko, Juolevi, we also have Dipetro, Woo, Klimovich, Lockwood, Koskenvuo , Gaj which I think all will make the big show. yes our cupboard may not be say as full as the Kings but we are at different places in our builds, plus bending seems to have a better hit rate in the draft with players making it. Does it matter if say 3 prospects make the show out of a pool of 5 or 15? -
Same in the UK - we lag behind Europe in high speed rail because of this. I’m not the biggest fan of HS2 over here but it’s one of those things we just need to do.

We have the commonwealth games being hosted near where I live next year and looking forward to it. While it’s cost a fair bit to update the athletics stadium, the rest of the infrastructure is pretty much in place so no where near as expensive as an olympics or where whole new infrastructure is needed. it’s also acting as a spur to sort out the public transportation around the region as it’s a joke at the moment so I’m happy with the costs. for Vancouver I would imagine similar situation if they bid again, some costs to update some facilities but overall it should bring back more in revenue that it costs due to not having to build all new facilities for every event

For me it’s a useful tool to help analyse a player in a specific context but outside of the context it’s just people playing top trumps with numbers -

He is a defensive D man that’s exactly what he was brought in to do. To play a sweeper role on the right to a more offensive rover LHD -

Nah the haters will still blame him for not being cheaper sooner and will still use his old cap hit when talking about his performance vs contract -

I’m half with you. Part of my job involved analytical skills and the running of specific analytics (not in sport). One thing people who don’t understand analytics is that there is no ‘god’ figure that tells you absolutely everything about a situation. By using multiple you can begin to paint a picture but again it’s not foolproof and you need to know the situation that generated the results. let’s use a retail example - a store replaces a manager, you introduce a new line of products across the business and you also heavily market it across various media. This store we are referring to outperforms by a significant margins the business over a weekends trading in comparison to the rest. Why? Which of the above was the cause. The only variable in the above is the manager - so did a new store manager suddenly make more people purchase items, or was it the combination of them and the new products? or is it the demographics of the people who live by that store, whereby the media made a better penetration? or was it that over that weekend there was a new that year festival in that town which significantly increased footfall resulting in more sales due to this? analytics can get you the impact of the manager, the impact of the media on the demographics and also understand how a product range performs across the business and whether an individual store is over performing. what it doesn’t tell you is other external factors - like the new festival. It gives you enough to ask why and then delve into the causes. same with sports - in baseball when every ball is a separate event it’s easier to do this, in other sports it’s not as easy. Analytics should be in used in context and never as a person has x WAR therefore is trash. same as if a player moves teams it cannot factor in teams and system prior to the data being generated, and it cannot give you have a player will react to the environment of that team, like moving from say Florida to a Canadian team. if a player moves around a lot we can start to look at performance across similar teams/markets and see if there are trends, but that’s a retrospective view and doesn’t exist on the first move and many players won’t move around enough to make that sort of overview significant -

English tax is that English players within the English football system are often overpriced in comparison to a similar continental player. it’s party due to the homegrown rule, but it still existed before then, and partly because they are a known commodity. The premier league is played at far higher tempo than the Italian, french and Spanish leagues so just because a player is good in one of those leagues doesn’t mean they can adapt to the style of play in the premier league, hense the higher cost for players already within the league -
Anywho managed to get out to our local rink which has only recently opened up, first time able to take my son skating, older than I would have wanted but it’s not been opened for almost 18 months

Different over here, with the closures and the furlough it was young people who were hit financially the hardest, at the same time they were asked to help out their older relatives, now when it’s the turn to help them they feel abandoned and again are the ones getting hit financially

Yep and it’s why there is quite a bit of anger amongst the younger ages in the UK. They were at the back of the queue for vaccines and the older generation have been double jabbed and then clamouring for things to be opened up again, which means those which are vaccinated can go on holidays, go to events that were restricted etc but those serving them often are younger and are now being put at greater risk as most haven’t yet been double jabbed and won’t be until the end of august/September time

Not necessarily +plug on his wing but entire roster make up. Look at the leafs some great players but it’s a top heavy squad filled in with AHL players to make the figures work. -

I think Rathbone is ahead of OJ at the moment, that said the fact he is waiver exempt means I see OJ getting the spot to start the season.
