  1. Yep same in UK due to stupid brexit on top of post pandemic fallout and war in Ukraine our economy is poised to collapse. That and we have removed most of our gas storage as our solution was North Sea Gas (which is privately owned unlike Norway, so shock horror price rise impacts it as well) Will get a small bounce from budget announcement but won’t last as it never does (73 and 88 budgets led to a bounce then a crash) we are seeing a large portion of our population already choosing between heat and eat and over winter will be brutal, if we get a bad winter it will result in significant deaths
  2. Over in the UK it’s about the equivalent of $2.73 a litre, and that’s dropped from a high of $2.88
  3. I would imagine the betting odds are calculated similar to other countries over the pond. Risk based pricing is what happens so while there will be a big part played by where they actually think a team will place, there will also be an amount factored in for the value and amount of bets for a particular team, as they need to try and limit exposure. So while an agreegate should give us a relatively good view, it’s a price that is manipulated by market conditions.

  5. can Americans not go everywhere and try and fuck things up and not grasp the concept of the local way of doing things, All star game with a north vs south team. Just try getting the fans to agree to say a team that consists of man u, Liverpool, Everton. Newcastle, man city teams, and that's without adding in issues you would get depending on who got promoted etc, add Sunderland to the mix, or a Sheffield and Nottingham team possibly. maybe the west midlands teams also class as north - so stick some Villa players in with wolves, and west brom etc. absolute joke football in the UK was build by the working class from the grounds up, owners should be custodians of the team not some big whig fucking around with centuries of tradition.
  6. Let’s entertain the idea of moving myers now. Who can we get for comparable cost that is better or comparable play that cost less? (And realistically get)
  7. If it’s a refurb, with external upgrades and a gutting of the inside and modernising completely (basically keeping the shell) would it be feasible to move to the colosseum for a season? I don’t see though why the arena would need to move its in a great position and good public transport
  8. Offensively playing a D man on their offside isn’t a bad thing if that D man can shoot, crash the net is mobile etc. the downside is blue line control. I think the only option we have is through the draft, and hope I’m gone sticks. We might be able to get a minor one in a trade as a throw in somewhere and hope they are like Cernak in that a makeweight piece turns out to be gold.
  9. Because commercial revenue, change jersey people go out and buy more. This equals more revenue
  10. Nottingham Panthers are my team however I went to Uni up north and had a season ticket for the local team so I could get my hockey fix (which are now defunct) schedule starts in September (this weekend was opening weekend) there is also a thread in off topic for EIHL talk. favourite players probably Trevor Koenig, Colin Shields, David wheeler & David Clarke - Clarke bring a member of the British hall of fame (which is the third oldest in the world behind Russian and IIHF halls)
  11. Building society is essentially a bank. They used to be a collective that people in a community pooled resources to build then disband but they have long since evolve from there roots. The largest UK mortgage provider is a building society (nationwide). There are plenty of black jerseys, the team colours are black gold and white and again because of cash flow they tweak the jerseys each
  12. In the UK it’s a sport that has more female than male fan attendance. Make of that what you will. dis your friend play D?
  13. I watched the league a lot more back then, who was the friend? the quality here is no where near top tier even in Europe but it’s average attendance is similar to the ECHL. It used to be a bit better with Players like Colin Shields, Peter Aubrey, Ben Storey, Verner etc, there seems now to be a slightly more British focus which has lowered the standard slightly but has meant the national team has been performing better. I bet in that year your friend has some stories about playing out of some right dives.
  14. it’s more like a royal blue than navy so pretty easy to see Same as the logo on the jersey.
  15. It’s really easy to see the puck, once the light go up it’s very very bright, and the puck is really easy to see. plus the UK does not have same level of money sloshing around the league so to exist they need as much funding as they can get. tbh sponsorship doesn’t bother me as much as teams being corporate enterprise that can just be plucked and moved at whim
  16. Loved the teal grizzlies jersey, but for us we now have teal in Seattle and San Jose, so the division will be getting a bit to teal if we go that way, but that said I like these. I prefer to not chop And change all the time and only slightly tweak every so often. Use the third jerseys to do cool stuff with. Would be cool as well to include some other local animals into the jersey as well Although a thunderbird might feel to Seattle than Vancouver
  17. Pretty sure the Nottingham panthers had more in attendance than coyotes will have next season it’s smaller than Nottingham (above) Sheffield below about the same size (tiny bit smaller) than the now defunct Newcastle vipers smaller than belfast smaller than breahead it’s crazy that such a small league in the UK has half or more arenas bigger than the coyotes and then level here is probably a bit in between echl and ahl if you going to let them play in that small an arena for the NHL, why not just go the whole hog and move a team to the UK and drop it somewhere in the midlands or Manchester and you could easily have a team with 10k plus fans every game
  18. It’s the daily fail, gutter news. Their paper pretty much has something to do with Dianna on it every day
  19. Went to the season opened at the Panthers, got a free drinks voucher on the queen. There was a moving tribute which the crowd broke out into spontaneous applause. Followed by a two minute silence to the queen. was weird with the anthem being king will have to get used to it. atmosphere started out rocking with probably about 5000 in attendance. earl goal by Guildford Flames quietened the crown for a while. Took until the second for the panthers to level only to conceded another goal shortly after. Tied it up later in the second. Third period Guildford got another go ahead goal and the panthers pulled the goalie with 1 min left. That manage to whack it into the net and flattened the goalie with the clearest interference call you could ever see, however the game was tied and went into OT (with no penalties all game) 3-3 the panthers scored in about 20 seconds to win. happy with the win however it was not deserved. Guildford were strong and fast with good puck control, panthers were playing very defensively and passive on the forecheck. They had three in the blue line, which meant any time they got a turnover in the neutral zone and broke out they were pinned to the sides and when they did get a chance to throw it up the middle there was no one there. they were also trying to cycle it down low but the Guildford players were just to strong for them and the game defended into panthers playing the boards and being pinned and guilford then turning over and breaking out. also the amount of poor control by the panthers on the blue line was way to high, you could tell it was preseason. also panthers kept trying to play it out from their end and kept getting caught fannying around with the puck. overall Guildford look strong but all the goals they conceded were in close against the net and the result probably wasn’t fair for them, Panthers look like they are going to play a euro game this season but they need to work on puck control massively otherwise they are going to absolutely destroyed by Belfast and cardio when they play IMG_0899.MOV IMG_0911.MOV
  20. There are a few of us on here that watch/support teams in the EIHL so though it would be pertinent to have our own thread to talk and discuss hockey.
  21. been saying this for a while. Sports in NA are fickle, commercial entities and not rooted to the locations unlike European sports. with the NHL having 32 teams and only one real prize some people could go their whole life without seeing their team win something, plus if a team suck, fans stay away team moves, and so on. Having at least one cup competition gives teams a chance to compete for something, to win something. It would be better if they did it as either a one game knockout, no cap or player restriction, so teams at the top may rotate an use some of the farm and get experience for the kids. while tanking teams would be able to compete to win something while still rebuilding.
  22. She did a few other puck drops as well, there is also a few stories from people who she has spoken to about hockey (Erik Janssen). While she probably wasn't an enthusiast she seems to have enjoyed the sport, and done her research before dropping the puck at GM place
