  1. He’s not being healthy scratched because of not signing. To much anti Russian media reading. Just like with all players especially young ones they are streaky and also it depends on a number of circumstances. Same thing happens here with players being moved to and from the A and being scratched. will Podz be a stud player - I’m pretty sure he will be but remember he is still developing
  2. Firing prison manages doesn’t really solve the issue though. I would imagine like in most countries it’s a political issue and a lack of funding. If they are under funded and under staffed, not able to get them in, have unions not allowing the guards or other staff to do cleaning work Firing the manager probably won’t change much. I agree that inmates probably shouldn’t be high in the list but if you look at it from injections it’s not really different to a care home, and in most cases the way it would get into a prison is the same. the point about withholding the second dose is similar to in the UK. The point is that the efficacy of the virus is mainly in the first dose. Therefor if you push back the second dose you can get more people vaccinated earlier with the first dose and then go back and do the second doses. In theory this means that you have a larger proportion of the population with reasonable immunity earlier allowing for easing of restrictions earlier
  3. He doesn’t look out of place. But I agree he most likely will be sent to Utica for this season but next season will be a regular
  4. Glad to see Rathbone getting some more acknowledgement on here. Hopefully people will stop seeing him as a makeweight trade piece and start to evaluate his game.
  5. The independent is left leaning and certainly not chummy with the Conservative party. The evening standard was pro boris in the London mayoral elections and he does have a personal friendship with Boris Johnson but the independent clearly isn’t which shows he is willing to let the editorial approach run its course without to much meddling. if you look for scary things you will find them. It’s about risk management and weighing things up. With the vaccines I am a little bit more worried about long term issues that may arise due to the short period of trials before hand, but that’s not because I believe there is some sort of conspiracy with the vaccine, just that there are still a number of unknowns. However while I have those concerns it will not stop me getting it, as the more people that get it the quicker we can get back to a level of normality. The quicker the economy recovers and those who have lost jobs will be able to find jobs being created in a post covid environment. The quicker people can fill the gaps in the market from the multiple collapsing businesses. With masks unless you are wearing a sealed unit with no vent (which I doubt because that basically a plastic bag over the head) there is always enough airflow. Only if you are wearing an N95 or equivalent and also have severe respiratory issues would you come close to getting problems with them. Uncomfortable yes, dangerous no. With cloth masks it’s a complete none issue. Air can move both through and around the mask as it’s not sealed. This means there isn’t a lack of oxygen or build up of C02. What a cloth mask does is reduce the particle flow while exhaling. It does nothing for stopping incoming. This is why everyone needs to wear it to be effective. so while I don’t fully trust politicians and think some of their decisions have been poor, some have been good. I do not think there is some sort of mass conspiracy out there. Generally speaking you can know what a politicians political leanings are and can gauge the responses they will make based on their ideology and also have pragmatic/dogmatic they are. If you elect a government that favours small government and a hands off approach its likely during a time of crisis this is the style they will adapt. They may bring in some restrictions but most will be guidance and get on with your life(aka the American approach) if you elect an ex chemist who is known to be pragmatic, consultative and used to having to make compromise to govern, you get a response that is measured, with some restrictions based in law, and then following of scientific advice (aka Germany). the fact that quite conservative politicians which are in power and have a arms distance approach is not a sign of the virus being some hoax, or not as severe it’s a sign of their governance style
  6. The senators have made some good moves. I don’t think there will be a team cut adrift at the bottom, I wouldn’t be surprised if the top two were clear by a bit with the rest constantly switching up places
  7. He bolted because he was jerked around. The noise from both camps at the end of last season seemed to be along the lines of we no thy wanted a deal but because of the cap constraints and the timing issues wasn’t able to be done, but parted on good terms with a view of revisiting this after the KHL season
  8. Trying to look and compare cocos deaths across countries or even states is difficult as the measurements they use will create a different set of metrics. Also as harsh as it sounds you need to take into account the fact that covid may have been a final factor in a death, but they person may have died anyway within a similar space of time. the fairest way to look at figures is to look at excess deaths. This accounts for the above scenario, and also accounts for issues with health services being stretched and it impacting on other areas like cancellation of cancer screening, and other care provisions (heart attacks mortality rates etc)
  9. I very much doubt tryamkin comes across this season unfortunately. We may sign him after the rfa date and have him on a Euro loan and send him somewhere to play through this season.
  10. Selfishly I was hoping for that - means they are at a watchable time over here!
  11. Don’t totally disagree. Part of the issue is the London centric approach, London was in tier 2 when it had higher rates and infections and only when it got out of control did they move and create a tier 4. They left it to late - when they had evidence in September. not only this when we came out of the first lockdown the rates in London had stabilised but in the north it still needed to be locked down- this meant that it never stabilised up there and the response was always behind. also the unwillingness of politicians to actually mandate or use the police to enforce is part of the problem. When London hit tier 4 the scenes in the station of people fleeing out was disgraceful. Many areas with second homes infection rates jumped and this allowed the newer strain to take gold quicker. Now we have to deal with the repercussions. This was never going to be easy but the leadership has always been reactionary in England rather than trying to get ahead of it, and are governing by how people react to policy rather than introducing what is needed
  12. Well UK is back into national lockdown with an indefinite date on it
  13. The Oxford vaccine is most likely to be the most used one globally, due to that reason and that fact its about 16 times less expensive than the moderna and Pfizer vaccines
  14. But as with all UK things we have the vaccine but we don’t currently have a system to get the vaccinations done quickly. All the focus on the headlines from politicians and no substance in actual operational realities. same reason why UK isn’t conducting any border checks post brexit till at least July
  15. https://www.thepoultrysite.com/news/2020/12/uk-identifies-another-case-of-highly-pathogenic-bird-flu just to add at the moment in the uk poultry industry there are some serve bird flu outbreaks of H5N8
  16. Rathbone probably could based on how he plays, but would need to get to the big club first
  17. I think a RNH , Virt and Motte line could be interesting. Motte is the hustle, birt crashes to the net. I wouldn’t be against adding RNH, but I think unless the covid discount comes in very favourable then its probably not worth the cost and the impact that will have on other moves
  18. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-55514243 current status of vaccinations across the globe. I’m going to be keeping an eye on the stats as they come out for this
  19. The Russian, ccp and oxford vaccines all target the protein spike using adenoviruses but in different ways. This means that if the spike mutates the vaccine would have to be adjusted to be effective at that time. (Which is pretty much what they do with flu vaccines each year) the Pfizer and moderna vaccines uses mRNA to target the virus. This means that it is more likely to be able to target strains which have mutated significantly from the version the vaccine is based off. (However this is a new area so the full implications are not known) in regards to needing it each year - none of the vaccines can guarantee it will provide lifelong immunity as we don’t know how much immunity and how many T cells will be needed to keep this. It might be that some of the vaccines do, some don’t, and it might be that annual boosters become the norm. The data just isn’t out there yet for this
  20. The main difference is the rink size (although that’s changing) it means the style of play and both offensive and defensive structures are different. You get more time on the puck, can play more set patterns and create more space, the right rink in NA means it rewards a more physical and hustle game. Some players in the NHL are exceptionally cerebral but need time and space, they get that in KHL. it’s more a case of style and space that dictates as there are plenty that have flopped over there and also plenty that did meh over there do well in the NHL
  21. Happy new year to everyone. for once the London nye show looked pretty cool - worth a watch if you can get onto bbc iplayer. although it did look like the show was controlled by the eye of sauron (the shard light show) also was an interesting decision to go for end of world theme. but it does have Sir David Attenborough in it
  22. Rutabaga or Swede as it’s known over here
  23. Costmar has looked okay, but I do think this is pretty much his ceiling, I would be surprised to see him make it up to the NHL level. I would love to be proved wrong though
  24. True - not just you but even big businesses suffer which has either caused or will cause massive layoffs. Maybe then some people might look back and think maybe if they were so selfish or wouldn’t have lasted as long and they might have a job left
