  1. I rated Myers when he was a flyer and was gutted when he was traded to the predators. I would stick a claim in, he is a project but at the same time he was playing 18 mins a night just the other season and playing well. Deffo worth a claim
  2. The difference is context. im a DA/BA. stats help tell the story but they are not the story, you need to frame it with the context. A lot of people on here use advanced stats as gospel. you need to put them into the context of what’s happening. A D man who is playing on one of the worse teams in the NHL is going to have poor ga stats. You need to frame it with other stats to help build up a picture and then test that by watching the game with those in mind and see if what is being told by the maths stacks up. Analytic departments in the NHL won’t just spew advanced stats and make good bad statements they will be looking and how they fit into the wider context
  3. I think part of the difference is that because it’s in Europe it’s not close enough to home for people to care. Donbass and Luhansk were the same situation as Georgia - there were some pro Russian, but supported by an illegal operation by Russia. In Europe we have seen this before and though that it wouldn’t happen on our continent again. Yes we have double standards here but the difference is this is our backyard our homes and our families in Europe this is happening to
  4. Ironically that’s how we ended up with OJ going positional over BPA. Neither way is right as if you get it right people will laud you, get it wrong that will say should have gone positional or should have gone BPA. my view is that drafting happens to young and for some players it’s the worst thing that could happen for their development. would much rather see far smaller draft pools for the top players only (top 2 rounds) with the rest being able to be picked up by teams as and when they want.
  5. as an FYI with apple devices its been a known problem that impact for a number of years. Normally it happens when an update or patch is done by them and is usually fixed shortly after.
  6. if any revoking of visas happens its likely to impact the younger players and not the older 'stars'. Malkin has US citizenship and I'm not sure on the status of Ovi but its likely he would be able to get around any restrictions. Ironically Panarin could be someone who loses out here.
  7. He can sign before then even if he wasn’t on the reserve roster, if he wasn’t on it he cannot join the team or have his contract start until then, doesn’t mean they cannot negotiate or sign it before then so no reason they would get squeezed
  8. On an ice rink you have 15 people on the ice on a football(soccer) field you have 23 people on it ice rink 1517m2 101m2 per person soccer pitch 7140m2 310m2 per person no matter how you cut there is more space on a pitch, that’s before we go into usable space due to goals being on the ice vs goals behind the pitch, and the fact you have a board as the line marker vs white paint which makes the useable space larger.
  9. Tbh allowing them to be in. 3200 seat arena really takes the biscuit to smaller markets who have been locked out. Houston, Portland, Quebec, Saskatoon, Hamilton should all get a team before they get to play at that size arena. hell if the NHL wants to be adventurous the franchise is already failing why not move them to Europe and see how they would fare in a major hockey town over there. Switzerland could be a good base, with their hockey crowds (however not sure if that market is already saturated)
  10. The reclaiming territory bit is actually a significant part here. Imagine if the USA got broken up into some smaller countries (which included separating the founding states from the main) and a larger rump. That rump still is called the USA, and they wanted the original states back. Ukraine is the heartland of where Russia came from, Kiev is the heartland city and the rus is where they see themselves coming from. They see Ukraine as part of Russia not a separate entity. In their mind historically most of what is Ukraine today was either part of russian or part of the polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. What they neglect is that Kiev was part of the commonwealth and the drift of the people in Ukraine to their own identity happened long before the soviet era. The period of the Cossacks alone shows that. Now I dont support Russia’s view or advocate for them but Putin is looking for war as a distraction either by having one or forcing concessions from the west to make him look tough and strong to keep up his image and try and distract from internal dissent . But the reason for Ukraine is the same as for Crimea in that it’s an area that plays well for Russian nationalists.
  11. 3200 seats to put that into a UK perspective 5 teams play in rinks bigger than that Belfast Giants (9957) Sheffield Steelers (8300) Nottingham Panthers (8000) Glasgow Clan (4000) Fife flyers (3280) and fifes rink at Kirkcaldy is basically a warehouse with an Art Deco entrance also now defunct Newcastle vipers could seat 5500 its a joke for them to even entertain the idea.fair enough if it was for a few months because of a new arena over run or a natural disaster event that damaged their main rink. As much as i hate the whole moving teams, this isn’t a pyramid league and as such it needs to go elsewhere
  12. Out of interest what are the compliance issues that would stop them using the team facilities?
  13. It’s a result of playing not to lose vs playing to win. also with soccer you have more space in transition. The equivalent would be playing an inverse torpedo system or a full ice 1-3-1. if you pack the box you need an outlet and a quick transition
  14. I think following recent results unless we go on another streak and teams around us drop points that we will be sellers. Anaheim and LA seemed catchable but the gap is widening, Who I’m not sure, it depends if they want a tear down and rebuild or a retool. I can see benefits in trading miller, bb, horvat and Pearson but it really depends on what the vision is for after that. would I like a deep team with all players on elc or league min yes, but that only happens after years of success and being able to be contenders. We have to build up to it. while having core together is good, what you want to avoid is all players being almost the same ago. As they will all drop at a similar time and require years of rebuilding. You want to keep that core a similar age, so as players age up they are moved out for younger players in small bite size chunks
  15. Knowing the NHL if they move the coyotes probably will stick them in Atlanta
  16. I think they are a wildcard team which isn’t an option on the poll. Also think that we could get through a round but would probably go out second round as we are not a fully rounded team yet
  17. FYI when you are using 90% is that based on one two or three doses? omicron may be milder and vaccines are working, but it still stresses hospitals and fills beds and allocates resources away from other services. I would not be surprised to see a boom in cancer over the next few years and survival rates drop for it, due to bed filling and reduced diagnostics because of Covid
  18. I don’t know the details around Canadian property speculation, but in the UK there is always talk of building more, however people also don’t want new developments near them, as their house is a rising asset they don’t want to drop in value. Then add second homes pushing up prices and squeezing out young people from buying where they grew up. you would think that alone would cause a drop in demand but unfortunately institutional investors just grab up property as a portfolio further reducing available stock. Is that a similar issue in Van?
  19. Am I glad we don’t pay land taxes here, although that said it might help suppress our market slightly. It’s difficult over here but in Van I have no idea how you afford and then continue to afford the housing
  20. Should be 5 for these types minimum. Although still surprised Soucy didn’t get a hearing
  21. How would you square it with it bring a BOT and that they all are British citizens. Would you strip them of that or give them additional rights. Even if they voted for it, they are a dependancy and as such the final decision would rest in Westminster
  22. It’s not just the WHO, which have mentioned this though B1.1.529 has been studied by UK scientists as well, and while there are a number of significant mutations they key area of worry is the spike protein ones. while there isn’t yet enough data based on mapping it out on the current wave in South Africa it looks like it’s more transmissible than the delta variant, and is able to back door around the vaccine protection
  23. The below is a BBC article about how AstraZeneca is going to start making profit from the vaccine - however the interesting bit is the graph with the costs from the competitors. This shows why there was so much nationalistic pushback against that vaccine, because it was being supplied at cost and massively undercutting its competitors AstraZeneca to take profits from Covid vaccine By Tom Espiner Business reporter, BBC News Published 13 minutes ago Share Related Topics Coronavirus pandemic IMAGE SOURCE,GETTY IMAGES AstraZeneca has started to move away from providing its Covid-19 vaccine to countries on a not-for-profit basis. The drugs giant has signed a series of for-profit agreements for next year, and expects to make a modest income from the vaccine, it said. The company had previously said it would only start to make money from the vaccine when Covid-19 was no longer a pandemic. Its chief executive Pascal Soriot said the disease was becoming endemic. The jab will continue to be supplied on a not-for-profit basis to poorer countries. Mr Soriot had said previously: "We decided to provide it at no profit, because our top priority was to protect global health." He told the BBC he had "absolutely no regrets" about not making a profit when competitors had been, despite having to deal with political criticism in various countries. He said the vaccine, which was developed with the University of Oxford, had saved a million lives around the world. "I absolutely don't regret it," Mr Soriot said. "We are proud as a company of the impact we have had - we've saved millions of hospitalisations. The [AstraZeneca] team continues to do a stellar job." Covid jab to be compulsory for England's NHS staff Covid-resistant people inspire new vaccine tactic He said that the contracts that had been signed are for next year, adding: "The virus is becoming endemic which means we have to learn to live with it. "We started this to help, but we said we would transition [to making a profit on the vaccine]," he said. "It's not something we see as a huge profit-earner." There will be tiered pricing for countries to make sure the vaccine is affordable, Mr Soriot said. By the end of the year AstraZeneca expects to have supplied 250 million doses of its vaccine to the Covax programme for developing countries. Covid vaccines: Will drug companies make bumper profits? Other vaccine manufacturers including Pfizer and Moderna have been making profits from their vaccines. A normal profit margin in the drugs industry is about 20%, but Mr Soriot said AstraZeneca, which charges about $5 per shot for the Covid vaccine at cost price, would not be making as much profit as that. In its latest financial results, AstraZeneca said: "The company is now expecting to progressively transition the vaccine to modest profitability as new orders are received. "Covid-19 vaccine sales in [the fourth quarter of 2021] are expected to be a blend of the original pandemic agreements and new orders, with the large majority coming from pandemic agreements." By the end of September, AstraZeneca and its sub-licensees had supplied 1.5 billion doses. The company reported revenues for the first nine months of the year of $25.4bn (£19bn), but said its overall profit margins had declined, mainly due to providing the Covid-19 vaccine at cost price. AstraZeneca said a rise in profits in the fourth quarter from the Covid-19 vaccine would balance out costs related to developing a Covid-19 antibody treatment, as it kept its overall profit forecast for the year the same.
  24. Hardly talk to my parents (and they live abroad) call my Nan once a week and normally go see her every other month (lives in different city) My son though speaks to my parents most weekends if they can be bothered. And they might come over once a year on one of their trips back to the homeland. occasionally email my sister. Only my nan has my actual phone number. as people they are okay as parents they suck. Even when you try and build bridges it gets tiring when they constantly play the victim in any circumstances and make up stuff. One of the latest revelations was they apparently when my son was born (quite a few years ago now) and they came over to see him we didn’t let them hold him and were cold to them. when we found out this we called them out on it and they doubled down, so we sent them the pictures and videos of that exact time showing them holding, feeding and playing with him. disnt get an apology only a statement saying well where did I get those memories from them. However while I don’t have much to do with them I try not to let that interfere with my sons relationship with them, unless they cross the line and hurt him
