People love Hanson because he put in effort every shift, grafted and worked hard. JV is a far more talented player than Hansen ever could be (not knocking Hansen) but he floats and coasts in games. If he put in more effort it wouldn’t be as bad. its the same reason why people sometimes rag on stars, effort - can score a ton of goals but if they never back check, and are lazy when it’s not going their way it rubs people up the wrong way. i think people here want JV to be a success. Yes his season goals scoring wise was okay but there is more to it that just numbers

Is it possible to do a whole season in the bubbles?

It’s no where near enough as I would imagine the corp hospitality is a huge money earner, especially in places like Vancouver. -
Agree - hopefully over a series we can sustain it. we do need to pick up on our 5 on 5 play. Zone entry still needs work, especially as I believe around 46% of all goals are scored within 5 seconds of gaining the zone, and with our speed and skill we should be doing more with it. also we need to cross the royal road a lot more and with speed prior to shooting. We played well and hopefully will continue to do so, but there are still many Areas we can improve on

Yes it’s unproven vs proven, and yes good defence wins championships. Hughes is only one part of the equation, we need a good stay at home defenceman and probably two rather than just offensive D. But you can get good quality serviceable D and have a good system. Looking for superstars all over the roster means we give up the future for now, even if the trade is a win in the now. But it handicaps the team in the future. if the strategy is boom and bust then sure thing but it will mean you run through a team for a few years then have to blow it up and then start tanking for picks and then wait a good few years for the team to rebuild and then start again

Is the season a success no matter what else happens?

Without wanting to beat a dead horse the tryamkin situation did leave wiggle room for both sides to find a solution during next season. It’s probably better this way anyway as he may have to cool his expectations slightly to get a spot, which maybe means slightly better cap hit, plus he gets to play hockey in the KHL as opposed to sitting around twiddling his thumbs. it also might mean he’s gone but tbh if we keep Myers it’s no great loss. If we have Myers and Tryamkin that’s some monster D -
If what you have learnt from the leafs is not to lock that amount up in forwards but not that locking up that much in so few players is a bad idea I guess there isn’t much point in continuing the convo. yes we have a phased in approached but eventually they will all be on top level contracts, and so you have to dismantle and retool or end up like the leafs.

The injuries is a misnomer then. the point I was making is that Juo has already taken a long time on the farm in comparison to similar d men taken in the same draft. Once he hits the team full time I think the same corp of people who rag on JV will turn on Juo. I do think JV will become a good player, the question is will it be for us?

Problem is we trade the farm - we don’t have elc depth players to come through and make the team remotely competitive with the salaries. there is no difference between the leafs and this idea, the issue wasn’t they had all forwards on superstar contracts but the amount they had locked up on those contracts meaning they cannot get a complete team. we do the same on D we might be tight at the back but will have to sacrifice gk or forward strength to cover for that.

Fully agree with this. We don’t want to turn out like the leafs where we have to much tied up in top tier contracts and the inability to sign players to support them effectively. In Salary cap era we have to pick out stars and sometimes that means we won’t have the best d corp or first line but have a strong overall rounded team that can compete

at the time it looked like over payment, but anyone who still things that needs to re-evaluate things. im often critical but not because I don’t support the team, I get behind them and cheer them on. I’m critical because I like to look and evaluate and see how things could be improved and you need to know what isn’t working to do that. I then enjoy discussing that with people. but I think whichever way you look at it the Miller trade really worked out and his play, leadership and experiance is really helping this team grow
