If you read my other posts I have given him credit today for the win, for the change in defensive structure we have seen tonight, the lines he has ran.
my point I was making was in relation to the post I replied to which was about how he’s done a great job with the kids and why wouldn’t you want that guy coaching the youth.
as a few other people on here have meantioned he is a players coach and is doin my a good job of getting them to play. My view is I’m not a fire him now guy after every loss but I feel while he has done a job for us, he isn’t the right guy to get this team to the next level.
one of the reasons I stopped posting on this board many years ago is that after each win people believe the team is perfect, after each loss we should fire everyone and blow up the team.
its a lot more nuanced, in loses sometimes you can see something being tried and not clicking but is a good idea, sometimes it’s outplayed on the night, sometimes it’s a showcase of what’s wrong.
when you win just because there is the W doesn’t mean that things are all okay. You can still look and see for areas of improvement.
when you then extrapolate this across the whole season you can see trends and you can use these to try and pinpoint the root cause. Sometimes it’s a player, sometimes is a system, sometime is tactical etc.
my view on green is this- the players like him, as such will play well for him, however either he isn’t good enough with systems or the coaching staff he has around him are not good enough. To many times this season and even in game one and game 2 do we give up grade A chances and let opponents just sit in the slot completely unattended. To many times does an opponent drive to the net and have no one go with them. (And today I gave credit as they have moved to playing a tight box and eliminated this for this game so it’s a welcome change)
the PP entry is weak and against poor team in the regular season did okay, but it’s just stat padding masking the entry issue.
we have some highly skilled players but it seems like a lot of the game plan is reliant on individuals. This is where I believe the youth coach aspect comes in. He is great and getting players to express themselves and when you have some high end potential in lower levels being able to get that out of a player is great, and you can then use that.
At the top table everyone has high skilled players so you need to find systems and ways of playing that make a team greater than the sum of its parts, as opposed to 5 separate guys on the ice.
