You get experience as a by product of competing, you don't go with the goal of experience. You also need to build on a team. A team can be a bubble team and get into the playoffs as the last seed for years, gain a ton of experience but never progress. Because the management don't invest in the right players, make the right decsiions, and just are happy to be there. To win you need a winning mentality that permeates through the club

Experience is an overrated thing. It’s important but some people on these forums seem to hold it to this mythical status that somehow having post season experiance means played just magically become winners. you need to create a winning mentality and from that you gain experience and learn where you fell short. Going in to ‘just get experience’ doesn’t create this, nor is it an attitude of a winning team or one that wants to win

I know, I was being a bit facetious with that comment. I was surprised virtanen went as high as he did, and thought we would have gone with ehlers. Virtanens write up was good body good speed, probably best shot in the draft but lower hockey IQ and vision, could be a draft bust due to not having best hockey or positional sense. we tried the same project with trading for Kassian. However it’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation, fans and pundits have been saying we need to get bigger especially at that time and not keep going for skill without The size to utilise it in the NHL, but in doing so we did pass over some very skilled players that would/could have been useful to us.

Anyway to dump them both along with Eriksson maybe clear of few others At D out as well to create space and look to get Hart, Work a deal with Tryamkin to return at the end of the KHL season (looked like they both want a deal row work so make it happen) bring rathbone up. If Virtanen is in the dog house and green is staying ship him out as a way of getting some decent D back as well. tbh all that is fantasy hockey and not going to happen. i think though that if we lose and we win the lottery (doubtful) then it may be a case of clearing out some of the older and filler players getting a tad bit younger with a view of being a very strong team in a couple of seasons and having cap space to leverage trades because of Seattle. If we lose and don’t win the lottery i hope we still look to promote some of the D prospects we have and make a decision on Marky/Demko - we don’t want a situation like Schneider/Luongo where we have a lot of cap tied up in goal and ultimately end up with neither when we could ship one out earlier to allow the team to be better overall. if we win - things get a little more complicated. I think because of cap constraints we will be forced to trade, let walk a few of the older players even if it means a slight hit in next seasons overall performance, but should in the long term make us more competitive

Not sure who reffed flyers vs Bruin’s but seemed to let the game flow, some players were getting away with stuff they wouldn’t in season but overall the refs called it when it went a bit to far and made sure it didn’t get silly. overall I think they did a good job with that game
