Canucks Flying Skate Jersey Could be Making a Comeback
UKNuck96 replied to Me_'s topic in Canucks Talk
I would love to see something like the Kachina for a third but one made with local indigenous artists that fits Vancouver.(I’m aware of the issues around the orca jersey as it stands) Would be good to see a jersey with a Salish Orca designed artwork that was done with the support of the community and also came alongside extra recognition and social responsibility. -
Canucks Flying Skate Jersey Could be Making a Comeback

Quick google of a recoloured skate as it’s been done so many times by fans brings back the below. I don’t mind then, but to me a third jersey should be the chance for something a bit different not just same as the current -
Time for some additional cup competitions
UKNuck96 replied to UKNuck96's topic in General Hockey Discussion
It deffo won’t be anywhere near as prestigious as lord Stanley’s cup. But it means a player can still win trophies. in European football you can win a domestic league, one or two domestic cups and one of three European cups all in one season. winning the domestic league and the champions league are top two things a player would want. But in a knockout cup you can get some odd results and that means a team has to be at their best not have a bad game and then still win a series. if you look at the history of the FA cup that’s sort of what this would be like. Any player who has won the FA cup wouldn’t give it back, yes early round some teams may not take it that seriously but if you get into the 8 you probably think you have a chance to win it. -
I will just prefix that the Stanley Cup is the big one and wouldn’t be diminished by the below suggestions and that would still be the pinnacle of hockey sporting achievement. However with 32 teams in the league even if a team won the cup once every 32 years most fans would see their team win at most twice in a life. In reality though teams good enough to win fit may get a few bites at the cherry meaning some teams may win a few times during that period, and thus others wouldn’t win at all. with some hockey markets just playing hockey there fills the arena. However for most success brings more people through the gates and also brings more commercial revenues. With the league looking to maximise revenue and with revenue sharing meaning that often it’s the Canadian teams subsidising the sunbelt teams maybe it’s time to look at ways that both commercial revenue and success for fans can be brought together. I propose that the league get reduced number of games ever so slightly and over the course of the season a 32 team knock out cup is brought in. this would be a random draw (which can be televised (aka more revenue) and the cup itself can be sponsored (seeing as its new and has no history no issue here (more revenue)) the format can be debated about how it would work with group stages, etc however I propose keep it simple. a home and away leg using cumulative score , and if tied after 2 games use the away goals rule. Winner goes through to the next round. it could either have set brackets or redraw each round doesn’t bother me. so this would give teams more reason to compete and give fans something grasp at winning each season even if their team isn’t a contender. what I would do though to shake it up more is remove the cap for the cup games, and also remove waivers and allow the club to use any player on its 50 man roster. this would mean teams can use it for multiple purposes, and a way of getting development time for prospects and evaluating players, or without having to have crazy cap shenanigans impacting the cup. inalso propose tying into this as a way of growing league and revenue that during preseason the winners of the Stanley cup play the winners of the KO cup in a match played abroad in a way of generating more overseas interest and raising commercial revenue from overseas broadcast rights thoughts?

Not ever great coach wins a cup and not ever cup winning coach is great. with the size of the league it’s just basic maths. That said and going slightly off topic I think now that there are 32 teams it’s time to introduce at least a knockout cup that runs during the season and bring in some other silverware for teams to challenge for, to help keep fans entertained

I slightly disagree. For me Free speech should not be absolute. But where it isn’t should be framed clearly. Inciting Violence, or direct prejudice against protected characteristics should absolutely be restricted. To me freedom of speech does not absolute someone of the consequences of that freedom. Whether that is from the law or from people’s reactions to what is being said. back to DC. Do I think he crossed a line, no. But also is push back against it fair - Yes. However as others have said push back and have discourse, not just foam and demand and end to DC and not engage with anything other than that is not addressing any issues. As a society we grow through discourse and understanding not by shutting the conversation down

COP26- Nations trying to water down climate report ahead of summit
UKNuck96 replied to UKNuck96's topic in Off-Topic General
Ahead of the COP26 summit documents have been leaked (above from BBC) which shows key nations are trying to water down the report on the reliance on fossil fuels. When the evidence is stark it seems the events of the 80s in banning CFCs seems to be a one off, and that countries are willing to stare climate change in the face. Australia being one of them even though it’s a nations that is already seeing impacts through the severity and frequency of Forrest fires and the huge swath of coral bleaching -

Do we have an actual update, the way he skated off looked like collar bone break, but if he got lucky it’s just a dislocation and no ligament damage -

And promptly gets boarded shortly after missing the game due to being under concussion protocols. -
Also FYI AstraZeneca vaccine is being sold at cost. That was 97% UK taxpayer funded as well. It was also a cooperation between two parties Oxford University and AZ which is primarily a cancer drug and treatment company. The formula is made in multiple sites and licensed to other countries to produce. I believe AZ has lost money on it as well and the hit it has taken on a PR front as well as it was the target politicking as well. So it’s not Big Pharma at all that’s a lazy smear brush of someone who cannot be bothered to scratch the surface of what’s actually happening. one player acting in bad faith doesn’t mean they all are

Plans for $400-billion new city in the American desert unveiled
UKNuck96 replied to CBH1926's topic in Off-Topic General
At the moment where I live the school is under 15 mins walk, the shops are the same. My previous job was 15 mins drive away. It was good. but like all things I changed where I work and it’s now halfway across the conurbation. In principle having work 15 mins away is great but people change jobs, I would much rather them focus on accessibility and move ability that within 15 mins from your house. Doing it this way while creates businesses in neighbourhoods, it also means if you don’t work in your local one it can be a pain to get to. Creating hubs where the work is and making the transport networks connect to them would be better. -
Plans for $400-billion new city in the American desert unveiled

Sounds a similar concept to the Line. would be interesting to see. The last new towns built in the UK were Milton Keynes, Telford etc not whole cities. If this does get built I expect the tech to be less than promised but if the urban planners and designers build it with good walkability and services that are not white elephants it could be good. Cities need to marry up medium and high density living with walkability and green spaces without making it car reliant. the super block system in Barcelona does a good job of this. If a new city can create a sense of local communities that are local and not just filled with cookie cutter shops, and have neighbourhoods services with the basic amenities locally it will be good, however if this is a private venture I doubt that will happen, as in order to get the money they will have to cost up to big business and make compromises to suit them and it will end up a car dependant commercial city -

Don’t disagree. I would rather they went with a TMO style approach rather than the call made in Toronto, plus allow the TMO to constantly be talking to the primary ref and vice versa. Similar to how Rugby Union does it. -
They should have.... bjt I think it’s in reference to the buffaslug

Would have loved that over here. While we have shared parental leave, unlike for women there isn’t any statuary paternity pay, nor do most companies have their own paternity policy so it’s an option that just isn’t taken up much. I booked 2 weeks off work when my son was born. From the whole COVID situation the best thing that happened was that I got to spend time of furlough with my son, and actually be a father to him rather than just seeing him just before bed (or sometimes not) and at the weekends. but back into the topic, glad the women won the case but 35k for this seems very low, and if you add higher circumstances it should be a lot higher. I also don’t care if the women was a pain to work with or even if the allegation she made was baseless (like I’m sure would be levelled against her) the fact is she was actively discriminated against

The Official European Football (Soccer) Thread
UKNuck96 replied to Scottish⑦Canuck's topic in Off-Topic General
Potentially. And if that is the case that’s a good thing. Like with the LGBTQ+ Newcastle group which have been some of the most active and vocal of English teams they have agreed to work with the Saudis. will it cause a change here and now no. But boycotting won’t make a difference at least this way people work with them and also try to make ab active difference. As a Newcastle fan at least we can fill our stadium, even in the championship we packed at James park and hold the record attendances for the league. In regards to Haaland even if he is linked so will a lot of other players, it’s columnist filling in quotas on slow days. Newcastle have the money to afford him and can spend around 180m in January and still be FFP compliant (before they get to the creative ways of increasing that with ‘sponsorships’) However until Newcastle can establish themselves in the top 6 they won’t be getting the world class players. if you look at the Man City approach it’s a slow build of increasing the quality year after year. so I expect this year to be good players who are sitting on the bench at the top clubs, and big fish in small pond players who are very good but not good enough for tip tiers. That and finding good young players they can give playing time to. James Ward Prowse, Max Aaron’s, if we splash some cash we might, just might be able to get someone like Billy Gilmour, but the question would be he is on loan from Chelsea and looks to be part of their next wave of players, why would he move from there to Newcastle? I doubt we will ever see Mbappe or Harland at NUFC. Possibly the generation after them we might stand a chance with, but clubs like Chelsea already have a great youth setup and horde good young players and use the loan system to get them to play. Man City’s academy is starting to get into swing as well. Just because the owners now have the cash from the Saudis and the Reuben brothers (which I had a job fall through working for because of covid) doesn’t mean that players that want to win trophies will instantly come here -
Campbell is going to get a lot of bumps tonight for sure

It’s legal in the cap, albeit the bit that gets me the most when looking into it, is that the injury to their backup happened 2 days ago so its using a procedure designed to get someone in to cover the role when there isn’t enough time to get a call up. 2 days ago they should have had to stick someone through waivers to clear the space to make the call up.

I normally am against exclusion or elitist based policies, however the only other option is to be more judicious with the ban hammer, and let those same people stay on HF boards -

In the first he was a bit rough. Dropped a couple of pucks out the mitt, gave away a lot of rebounds into danger areas, was slow to cover and kill the puck and made some bad choices when playing the puck behind the net. this resulted in a lot of scrambles around the net which could have gone anyway. We got lucky in the 1st that it wasn’t more than one. It wasn’t a steal by Demko. i am a big fan of his and positionally he is great and I expect he will become a brick wall, there area areas he needs to work on though, glove hand being one of them
