  1. Cory Hirsch wondered whether there is an issue in the room. There does not seem to be cohesion in the team. A caller pointed out that Schmidt (who seemed like a happy guy) wanted a trade out of Vancouver quite quickly. Something is not right either between some players or between coaches and players.
  2. Were there really no waiver wire Dmen that could improve our bottom pairing? For young guys there is always hope that they have some upside but with our veteran D it is depressing to know there is no upside to be hoped for.
  3. Brad Hunt interviews well and is a local guy so I really would like him to succeed, BUT sadly he is NOT an NHL defenceman and at his age we can be confident that he will not be one. The positional play is horrible.
  4. It’s taken way too long for a Vancouver player to level that snake Duncan Keith. Well done, Tyler! I hope Daniel Sedin has that on his PVR.
  5. From Elite Prospects in his draft year: ”A feisty two-way winger that uses his size and speed to open up space for himself and teammates. Understands both sides of the puck well, and skates hard up and down the ice. Positionally sound and reads plays well. While not always the fastest player on the ice, his skating ability is noteworthy and he can catch the opposition off-guard on the rush. Not afraid to get into the mix, and will get under the skin of opponents. Definitely a team-first player that will find a way to make an impact for his line with each shift. (Curtis Joe, EP 2017) ” Also his last two years with Owen Sound: 60 games 74 points, 42 games 48 points. And by the way he is only 22 years old, 6’2”, 209 lbs. and will stand up for his teammates. I had no issues with that pick. I thought he showed well at camp in the few opportunities he was given and was skating very well after doing extra work with a skating coach in the off-season, just has he was advised to do. This team looks like it will be softer than baby poo, yet again.
  6. Serious questions: what is this “Greens system” you speak of and why couldn’t Jonah fit in it?
  7. And what else could he say in this situation. He probably doesn’t feel he was treated fairly, so if he says he was treated fairly he may feel it would not be the truth as he feels it. If he said he wasn’t treated fairly he’d be seen as a whiner and it would not be a good look for his new start. In the circumstances it was a good diplomatic answer to an awkward question.
  8. He is still somewhat of a prospect, I think. Anyway, I find it interesting to see how a player was viewed as a youngster - especially if he is regarded as a bit of a reclamation/development project .I see Juulsen was taken 26 overall in 2015 so he also showed good potential at one time. Given that OJ was about to be lost for nothing (probably) I think Benning has done OK here.
  9. Let’s see. He’s 6’3” and 203lb Elite Prospects in 2012: “A winger with promising size, Lammikko works hard at both ends of the ice and is strong in small spaces and corners. He is a decent skater with good stickhandling and playmaking ability. Lammikko has been an eager shooter in the juniors, but seems more apt as a set-up man with his vision and IQ. He is also characterized by good decision-making and sound defensive play. (Matias Strozyk, 2012)” Two years ago with Karpat he had 51 points in 57 games. Yes, I know it’s a Finnish league but let’s give the guy a chance.
  10. Benning is an idiot. Big wingers with good hands and grit do not grow on trees. Absolutely appalling decision - probably the worst since signing Erickson. I wish Jonah all the best and when he slams one of our midgets into the boards I’m gonna be hard pressed not to cheer for him.
  11. I think a vaccinated person will generally have more antibodies and thus be better equipped to kill off covid viruses that they may encounter. Even so they may still be a host to the virus but not show symptoms (asymptomatic). They can still pass along the virus in that situation, so being vaccinated is not completely perfect for the protection of others. Frequent covid testing would significantly reduce, but not eliminate, that risk of being an asymptomatic carrier. Nothing is going to be iron-clad in this pandemic world - it is a matter of managing risks to minimize the likelihood of infection. Overall, I would think the protection for his daughter would be improved if he was vaccinated, whether or not he plays hockey and whether or not he plays in the US or Canada. It should be noted that Hamonic is reported (in the Province) to have had covid when several Canucks got sick last year. If true, he may have some degree of immunity. However, that sort of immunity is not recognized by the BC Government or the NHL. I believe Hamonic is a very caring individual and I feel sorry for the stress he is under. It would be great if he or his agent could be more communicative, but that may be asking a lot in the circumstances.
  12. Looks like a keeper. If he goes on waivers we would probably lose him. (I wonder if GMs phone each other to check out the interest in such players before doing waivers so that if all others promise not to claim you can feel safe in doing it. Or maybe they can’t be trusted?)
  13. Agreed. Reminded me of Seahawks defense last week: are we on zone or man?
  14. Mac was not impressive tonight even though he is probably on the bubble. He needs to be Tom Wilson or Ryan Reaves if he wants to stick in the NHL. It didn’t help that he got whupped by Gudbranson and looked submissive down on the ice. Not a good look for a tough-guy. He needed to fake a roid rage and appear aggressive but he was meek. I think being mean is not in his nature. Imagine what Gino would do after getting mugged and sucker-punched like that. Gudbranson is a cheap shot artist.
  15. Why on earth would he not be vaccinated when he has a vulnerable daughter? (If in fact it is true that he is unvaccinated.)
  16. A couple of hours before this posting you said “Not sure I understand. He is likely vaccinated..”. Now you say he is vaccinated. What is your source for changing from “likely” to “is” ? It is not a small point. Many people will feel greater sympathy if he is concerned about his family after being vaccinated as compared to putting the team and fans through a major drama because of vaccine refusal or hesitancy. Cite your source or you lose all credibility.
  17. The deals are staggered to accommodate the team’s limitations. EP will leapfrog Quinn with a new contract in year 4 that will be 1 or 2 million (+ ?) more than Quinn’s last three years. Also, I read into these deals that these two stars are buying in to the idea that this team will contend for a cup or two in the next few years.
  18. Good news. Reasonable all around. Btw did anyone else see a resemblance of Joe Burrow to Petey last night in Bengals game and interview? Slimish build, blond, hyper-competitive, baby-faced killer. Played with supreme confidence to overcome a first half debacle and stared down a zero blitz as cool as a cucumber. Both very special athletes with great scanning/computing brains and emotional control.
  19. Gadjovich still has some (maybe lots of) upside, Chiasson is what he is - a journeyman, and will decline. It would be criminal to lose Gadjovich on waivers.
  20. You are missing DiGuissepe who has been described glowingly by pundits.
  21. I’m sympathetic to his concern for family, especially his vulnerable daughter. He really needs to get vaccinated if he isn’t yet. That is a nobrainer to protect his daughter. Also, he could have a covid test prior to going home each time - though not perfect the tests can offer some further reduction of risk. He is a good guy and clearly is very stressed about this.
  22. That is a very ignorant and ill-considered comment. He suffered the loss of his father at ten, he cares deeply for his family, has a daughter with respiratory issues and is a thoughtful and caring person who works with kids who have lost their fathers. He sacrificed a lot of money to protect hIs family and he has a history of standing up for his teammates even though he is not the greatest fighter. Check out the ESPN film on him done some years ago. It’s called In The Name Of The Father - a very moving story.
  23. So what’s bothering you most? Is it the concern about becoming magnetic or do you fear control by the micro-chip? It is sad that the choice between the advice of some guy on Facebook versus the recommendation of thousands of doctors and scientists poses a paralyzing dilemma for some folks.
