  1. Don't get too excited. We had two 1st rounders in 2014, Virtanen at 6 and McCann at 24, and though we kept the wrong one, neither is with us.
  2. I'm down with a rebuild. As to the players you mention, add Pods and Bo to that and see what we can do with everyone else regarding trades or budget extensions. After that, we play, perhaps a losing season or two, get a high pick or two at draft, and go from there. A top three 1st rounder would be nice. But as you mention above, more picks would be an asset for sure. Retool?!?!?!?? Seems we've been doing that since the twins retired. Alas.......growing pains. it's the life cycle of competitive sports teams.
  3. On top of that, as a player, Major Junior Memorial Cup championship (Kamloops Blazers) - 1994, 1995 Memorial Cup All-Star Team - 1994, 1995 airBC Trophy (WHL playoff MVP) - 1995 Bill Hunter Trophy (WHL's best defenceman) - 1995, 1996 CHL Defenceman of the Year - 1995 [1] WHL West First All-Star Team - 1995, 1996[1] AHL AHL All-Star Game appearance - 2005, 2007*, 2010**[2] *starter, **captain of Canadian All-Stars International World Junior gold (Team Canada) - 1995, 1996 World Junior All-Star Team - 1996[1] As well it should be noted that he captained the AHL All Star Team, captained AHL Manitoba Moose two different times, and was drafted 10th overall in '94 by the Caps. Dude has the credentials and deserves this promotion to coach our Under 18's.......'Nuff said!
  4. Really, at this point in the season, they cannot. They simply must juggernaut their way to the end of the season, no matter who their opponent may be. Coyotes have a perfect opportunity to play spoiler. They've got nuthin' to lose and want to exact revenge on their loss to us in Arizona. Both teams have something to play for.
  5. We.......would've, could've, if only, if we, blah, blah, blah........ Sure. Of course. But as mentioned, we're not the only team that has performance issues against non playoff teams. Whatever reasons for such, I dunno. Perhaps it's a mindset that said non playoff team is an easy mark and so stronger teams go into it thinking it'll be a win. Or perhaps it's the mindset that a non playoff team figures their playoff team opponent think they've got an easy win against them and so the non playoff team prepares harder. In our Canucks case.....who knows. Is it the resign of TG? Honestly, I wasn't stoked when JB extended TG. But it's history now, and we all know the outcome of that. Would Bruce B at the outset of this current season guarantee a playoff birth? Hmmm....hard to say. Yea. Probably. I'd like to think so. But that didn't happen did it. Getting to the OP's topic........I agree. We would be in a better playoff state of things if we did win 1/2 the games we shoulda'.
  6. Really the only way we get in, and it's still not guaranteed that we will, is to place destiny in our own hands and win all the remaining games. A huge ask to be sure.
  7. No. They're establishing a relationship with him and still need to grow under his system and style. He's the guy this line up needs right now. Will he take us all the way? I'm guessing not. Who knows. But for sure he should stick around till he gets a chance to see how and what he does with the line up the new brass gives him.
  8. Dude. Part of the whole aspect of being a fan of one's home team; Our Canucks, is to immerse oneself into everything about it. The ups, the downs, players; past, present and future, coach, management, The 2 Johns, Jim and Larscheid, and on and on. We care 'cuz we're passionate. Back to topic.......... .....Yea. It's great that we have someone on our team that we can be excited about again. To cheer for and to hold close to our home cheering hearts. That being said. it'd be sh#tty to lose him!
  9. Remove the muffler from my car and do a long smokey burnout till something blows!!!!!!
  10. The Sedins were stars! Worked hard to get there and retired HOF futures. There's no comparison. Flow's game will return. Will he be a star? Probably not, but who knows. Unfortunately he's a fringe 1st rounder. Meaning he's good, but not great. If he can be a Matt Duschene or Jordan Eberle or better yet, a Taylor Hall, then let's try to keep him. Otherwise we trade him like those guys got bounced around for prospect/drafts.
  11. I don't know about that. Maybe Raffia Torres or Ripper (RIP) has something to say about that. But I get it. The Marchand antics were very irritating. That he got away with it making it more so. The league officiating was gutless in that series. But really....................... What really is the perception of our team to you??!?!?!!?? Its it team toughness? Nope. Is it resiliency? Perhaps, but not this roster. Is it hard work? Sluggish starts and chasing games unsuccessfully seems to support lack there of. We're not the, "Comeback Kids" anymore. Nor are we the team that intimidated other teams as we got better each game after defeating Flames in 7, double OT, 1st round. Nor are we the mighty Sedin Twins led offensive powerhouse of the 2010's. So....what are few now? I'm afraid we're known for the Covid Bubble performance a couple of seasons ago. Actually, it's a cryin' shame that team has been dismantled. A team without superstars, convincingly defeating the mighty former SC champs Blues. Great to see that!
  12. To me, we're basically like in a 1982 Canucks mode. That is to say, no really significant draft players, and mid round'ish, with a few former 1st rounders of other teams. And with our grit, hard work, and our 3rd rounder, Steamer by our side, we beat the odds. But not the powerhouse Islanders. Seems to me that a contending teams odds are better improved with a top 3 overall pick or 2. Case on point, Linden 2nd overall in '88, and the Sedins 3 and 4 in '99. Needles to say, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Hedman, etc, etc. Yes there are exceptions, but overall, if your gonna build a team for SC contention, you build around your stars. And acceding to Alvin...we got none as of yet!
  13. Canucks are living with the deal regardless. Yea. It's a pretty penny to pay, (guess I should be saying, "pretty Loonie!), but overall, his play as a mock younger Elder suits me fine. It's gravy if he can get to 75% of his former glory though. Perhaps his interaction with the Sedin's work ethic will rub off on him. Here's hoping!
  14. Bummer, man. Rest up and get him healed for the remainder of the season. The "Flow" of old will return!
  15. Uhhhh.....How many ex NHL captains do the Golden Knights have???? I look forward to the game this eve. Of course I want our boys to win, but at this point, win or lose, I'll be entertained for a couple o' hours. I'd be really stoked if they get into the big show!
  16. Well...I don't think it's quite like that, but I totally get your take on the trials and tribulations of being a Canucks fan. I always get excited for a new season. Mostly, to be honest, all year long! Although the B.C. Lions takes my mind off things Canuck for a spell. I get excited, hyped up on a new player/players, draft picks, off season trades, free agent signings......pretty much anything, save for minor moves though. That being said....... I sometimes wonder moves they make off season, still excited, but I do question them. I understand why they got Lou Player Name. Too be honest, I got excited about that one. Only cuz' of how he and the Sedins performed internationally. Alas, it's all water under the bridge now. Guess they needed a bigger ice surface to show what they coulda' done. Got excited of the big trade getting us OEL and Garland. But questioned the money aspect of it. Another year and we'd have been free of those free agent contracts of Beags, Player Name, and Rous. Sure, it'd have been another season of mediocrity, but how were we to know that it was gonna be another season of such with our new acquisitions. Oh well. Paying for our mistakes business wise is part of the show I guess. Arooooo......... Guess I'm saying......I'm a sucker as well! Canuck lovers united!!!!!!
  17. It always depends on what one gets in return. Especially for aforementioned players in your 2nd sentence. I'd be okay to trade any of the above. Miller definitely must be looked at for a trade, as he's the best asset we have that teams want. The other players I don't think will get us much more than later round picks, prospects or both. I think Miller will net us all that and perhaps a useable roster player ta' boot! Although anything resembling what we gave up to get him...probably not. I'd be surprised if we got a 1st rounder. I think Bo should stay. Really, ever since he got established here as our leader, he never did get wingers that allowed him success. Sure Baertschi was one, and seems Pearson, and or Hogs are in the mix, but there seemed never to be a consummate line for Bo. No "Lotto," "West Coast Express," or, "Mattress" line per se, but you get my meaning. Now, just because he's got roots here doesn't mean he's not movable. As always, if the price is right, then so be it. But....I think we keep him for reasons of his leadership with our present young core group, and upcoming young stars!
  18. Indeed...."The mob is fickle, brother. He'll be forgotten in a month. Replace "He'll" with "They'll...." This can be said about any fanbase, for any team, in any league. Pretty much any fanbase that's passionate, as we are with hockey, and Euros with soccer. I dunno. I don't think we had a problem with team identity a decade or so ago. Nor did we have identity issues in the mid '90s. Mid '90s was all about heart and soul. Sedin era was all about talent, PP....both had toughness and both had great goalies. Early '80s Im not too sure of. Definitely hard work and heart. This year, needless to say....Our team has a huge mountain to climb to get in the show. The impetus to do so is on us. It seems a recurring theme for most eras of our Canucks is to have their playoff destiny's determined by the outcome of other teams in the fold. They could write their own destiny by winning games they gotta , or should win, but more often than not that doesn't happen. Is this their culture?!?!?!?!? A team that, if they get in, anything can happen in the playoffs!
  19. 5 - 3 Canucks. An empty netter to seal the deal in the last minute and a half.
  20. We had a former co-worker who made it known of his displeasure of the mask mandate and vaccination. Needless to say, he was anti both! Basically he was told that if he was to continue with us, he had to wear a mask. He reluctantly complied, but wore a plastic mask. Not a shield, but one of those ones with air holes and ducts. Not much of a shield against spreading nor protection. He never did get vaxxed. Dude was a good worker, but we kinda' got sick of his conspiracy theorist ways and views. When the mask mandate was eased the first time, our employer chose to keep the masks because a lot of our clientele are seniors. He immediately started coming to work without one and was told he cannot enter the building without wearing one. Dude kept showing up and hung around outside thinking because he showed up that he'd be payed. Nope. Didn't happen. Dude raised a big stink and threatened legal action, but he had nothing on us. He eventually stopped showing up, but had the gall to ask to come back. In short, he screwed himself by his actions and we said NO!!! I don't know if this kind of thing happened in the Canucks locker room regarding Hamonic, but I can certainly see something as sensitive as the Covid BS that went around this past couple of years affecting many in different ways. At the end of it all, if you're not with the program, you quickly lose the respect of your peers. That is all.
  21. Wow. What a dramatic difference in the dynamics of the former "Motto" line with Richardson as the 3rd with Lammy and Highmore. Not as energetic. Effective in their purpose, but not as exciting to watch....aroo........whirrrrr...whirrrrr......whirrrrr.
