As you know, in return we got O.E.L.'s big contract, signed Garland, an extension for Dickinson, free agent Poolman signing.......then we payed out to Hughes and Petey.....hmmmm.........Halak free agent....Hamonic, (gone now, thanks!)..........I dunno...what else?!?!?!?!?!? Uh.....Luongo thingy...and aren't we still paying Ferland and Sutter?!?!?!?!?? Uhm....We still gotta get rid of some cap though. I'd really like us to keep Flow. Somehow his successful rookie year and following years, pre open door back slam must account for something. Someone posted a BB highlight goal reel in here and it seems like, as many of his goals at the present......he gets himself in a position to score goals. Dudes got hands and is a shooter first. I believe that was the consensus when we got him in the first place. To think that his stay here is coming to a close, meaning he might be getting stale and needs a change of scenery, is somewhat absurd thinking to me. That is to say, coming back to a team roster that has no Sedins, a gruelling TG defensive style of coaching, and to deal with all the bs of having to play up to standard after an injury such as he suffered. It takes awhile. Not just physically but mentally too. I believe that Boeser will get back to form as we knew him. Don't trade him. Get him signed! I think we'd be better served by trading Garland, Hogs....get some bigger wingers with hands! Yea...like, uh....Ferland! (:

This thread is utter drivel........

All this team needs is Hammer(Dan) and the Sedins!

"Tyler Motte, do we really need him??" Apparently not!

There's a few factors that contribute to the possible non playoff appearance of our Canucks. Halak's higher loss percentage does factor in, but also the lack of scoring, defensive holes, the sluggish starts, Covid absences early on, (still going on; Sutter.), our perceived best players,(Hughes, Petey, Boeser....), not at their best......TG......JB...... .........Just ain't our year, man!

I don't think management were really pressed to do much this trade deadline. They accomplished their mission to start getting our cap lowered. Good on them. It's a start, and we're rid of the Hamonic dramas off the ice and/or in the locker room. I liked Motte a lot, but with the raise he would've demanded, he had to go. It only made sense. Dude's valuable to a playoff bound team more than he was to us. Dermot, to me is a Leivo type acquisition. I'm excited to see what he can contribute the rest of the season.

I like the Flow. We should keep him. If for some unforeseen reason we have to let him go, PLEASE, PLEASE don't let him get away for nothing.
-
Tyler Motte Is a gamer for sure. It is sad to lose him, but the current plans to be contenders doesn't fit the time window set out by the new management. Motte's talents are more useful elsewhere. Getting him in the Vanek trade back in 2018 and his performance with us was a pleasant surprise. He's back in the good ol' USA and closer to home as well. Good luck!

Cheaper Jay Beagle. Good move. Now we gotta get Brandon Sutter back for our 3rd centre. These additions have/will make our present lineup better. Still need Vic Hedman though!

New Professional Women’s Hockey League Coming Soon?
Sativika replied to StanleyCupOneDay's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Agreed! That being said.......... ......The thing is....TALENT!!!!!! Is there enough Hillary Knight's, Marie Phillip Poulin's, Sarah Fillier's, Lamoureux sister's, Spooner's, Kessel's, etc, etc, etc!!!!!!!!!! To go around. I will admit, The women's game is much better because other countries are surely catching up in fielding competitive teams to rival N.A. teams. Case in point, the Fins vs USA gold medal game a couple of years back. (IMO, Fins got robbed.....) And I always try to watch women's Canada vs USA. Different than the men's game, but nonetheless, truly great hockey. You'd definitely watch a women's professional hockey league if they were that entertaining to watch. It is my opinion that it could work. Keep the teams small at first. Maybe no more than eight teams. Give 'em a decent salary. Maybe they'll have to have seasonal day jobs, but a good enough salary to support family, a good home, etc, while the hockey season is on. At least as comparable to AHL or CFL numbers. I dunno. What do you all think?!?!?!!??? -
[PGT] New Jersey Devils at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 15, 2022
Sativika replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I really enjoy Cheech and Shorty as our home TV Canuck on air personalities. They have a great dynamic. And I'm pretty sure a broadcast with them never goes by without them talking about food! No mention of our boy Tommy Larscheid?!??!?!? I met him when I won a pair of tickets for box seats. Hob knobbin' with the likes of Hughson and a few other NHL personalities. It was fun. Food at the buffet was pretty average, but Tommy sat with me and my bud and chatted Canucks. Very cool! We lost to the Oilers, but it was pretty fun. Even though Tom was a transplanted American via the NFL/CFL route, he became a consumate homer in Vancouver for the Lions and the 'Nucks. Yea, he mighta' bleated out the occasional profanity. But he only did so because of his compassionate love for his team. "That's just bullsh#t," which I recall as one of them during a broadcast of playoff Nucks 'n' Leafs in '94. God love him! -
[Rumour] Tyler Motte drawing interest
Sativika replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lammikko seems to be the guy if Motte ends up going somewhere else. Brandon Sutter after getting back to health could be the 3rd wheel for that line. I'm not worried if we lose Motte at deadline. -
The Elite Defencemen of this Generation Thread
Sativika replied to HKSR's topic in General Hockey Discussion
So you're referring to elite Dmen under 25yrs old, huh. Yep. Fast, talented, great skating and smaller seems to be the norm. Seider and Heiskanen the exceptions. Seider is most welcome to be a Canuck, thank you! -
Our roster composition is lacking with regards to a SC contending team. Some of JB's moves have stymied our development as such. CDC'ers are fully aware of JB's mandate at the time to, "retool," rather than, "rebuild," the roster around the Sedin's; Prospects for roster players or picks, (Bartchi for a 2nd, Clendening for prospect Forsling, Toffoli for Madden-picks and roster player), pricey free agent signings, (Player Name, Beagle, Roussel), to name a few.....all to keep us in contention at the time. JB's drafting overall's been a success. Some are still in a wait and see mode. That being said, to put hopes on our present prospects in waiting isn't logical. I'm guilty of placing hope on many in the past, Virtanen, Juolevi, Gaunce, but alas, I've given' up on such behaviour. We have some big Dmen in the pool, but knowing that they take longer to develop, plus the fact that none are of the Ekblad, Hedman, Carlson, Jones, caliber, well..........I'm not holding my breath. An elite small, mobile Dman in Hughes is a huge plus for us. As far as the trend towards having one of those in today's NHL, we've got that covered. As much as Rathbone is making waves in the same regard in Abby, I believe we can move him to another team requiring his particular talents. Yes. There could be a surprise waiting in the wings, but one can't rely on that. I believe we have pieces in place for a playoff. That is to say that we have players that can perform in that scenario. Horvat, Miller, Demko, Pearson, The whole Motte line, Myers, Harmonic, and Schenn. I'm sure Hughes and Petey will perform too, but they'll have their hands full with being double teamed and such. I believe we're a big right shot centre, game breaking winger, an elite big Dman, and perhaps an enforcer with speed and skill short of contending for the big prize.

Would you re-sign JT Miller to a 7.5m/7yrs extension?
Sativika replied to billabong's topic in Canucks Talk
Not that J.T. Miller is of the same caliber as a Crosby, McDavid, Mathews, or MacKinnon, but to us, he's pretty much that. Sure. He wasn't a 1st overall as the above, but he's still a 1st rounder. As mentioned by hockey pundits, dude is another Kesler. J.T.'s value as such pretty much mirrors Kesler in every way. Heart 'n' soul with talent and offensive prowess. Too valuable to trade him for cap reasons. Trading for roster players, prospect, and picks seems sensible in return, but J.T.'s with us now and next season; perhaps beyond. Let's not f#ck with what works. -
Maybe been mentioned in this thread already, but I definitely think JT Miller should be on the keeper list. I believe I don't need to say why. I'm totally down with what the op posted regarding the untouchables and everyone else is fair game. We need more speed, a more punishing, mobile defence, and at least another game breaking goal scorer. A veteran Kopitar, Toews, or Carter type centre could also be useful. Unless we get some no brainer trade at deadline, IMHO we really should wait till the draft/off season to make moves.
-
Giordano and Donskoi to us. To the Kraken, Myers and Poolman.
-
Dude's got his kicker started and is trolling!
-
Both comparably matched as far as skating, defensive play, and offensive output. I say BB is the better shooter, and Pearson the better at puck pursuit. Seems to me Pearson shoots more than BB because of such. Now if only he had softer hands! BB needs to get himself open more so's to utilize his shot ability. Shots! Shots! Shots! That's the ticket for BB. Sadly......I believe he's the one that'll be moved......Aroo.....

I don't know much with regards to the fine details of Halack's contract. That being said, and I'm sure it was already said, dude's not totally to blame. The boys playing in front of him have to show up as well. Any championship, and or, championship bound NHL team relies on a top tier backstop. In the many decades I've followed our Canucks, reliance on our goalie is, and seems to to always have been a major factor. Other than the peak Sedin years, we mostly lacked in goal scoring. Goal support for our team needs to be balanced against our usual great goaltending. We've won games while outshooting our opponents. We've won games when our opponents have outshot us. It's when we outshoot our opponents by a large margin, AND LOSE, that's so frustrating with this team. This point to holes in our defence, and lack of goal breaker type scoring. Yea, yea....I know......Halack's only won like 18% of games he's played thus far for us...but he's not totally to blame for all those losses. As I previously mentioned.....we lack game breakers. Oh yea! And less sluggish starts!

Thoughts on Jimbo's moves and this off-season
Sativika replied to Silky mitts's topic in Canucks Talk
I like OEL. Always have. I did think it odd that he signed long term in Arizona, knowing full well that SC contention was never gonna be a factor there during his time. Ya' gotta respect that loyalty! So I'm happy we got him now. It's a fresh start for him in a new location and in a hockey mad market ta' boot. What's not to like. If anything, if he's at least as good as Eagle was when he was OEL's age, then we're ahead. I'm not worried at all.
