Honest Conversation With Those Who Still Support Management
4petesake replied to JohnTavares's topic in Canucks Talk
Tell me what this new thread offers that is any different than every other thread about Jim Benning. Why did you start it? Not enough places to get your feelings out? Anyone who offers any explanation for the grievances offered here are called nut huggerz or something else. Here’s a new one you can use, Jimhovah Witnesses. Very few of us blindly back JB or support every move he makes but just because we don’t join you in screaming for his head this is the chorus that you sing. FA will decide, not you or I. -

You might as well just give up. We have hats and everything. -
Honest Conversation With Those Who Still Support Management

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought this thread was “Honest Conversation...” JB wanted a center PLD and once he was gone turned to the other glaring need, defence. I had no problem with the idea that a defenceman was the best option for the team. Choosing Pettersson one year doesn’t make Jim a super scout and choosing Juolevi another year doesn’t make him terrible. Look at his whole body of work and if your not satisfied I have no problem with that. I am more than pleased with the team’s draft record under JB. I have some reservations about other aspects of the job he has done but I have yet to hear FA’s opinion. So I’ll wait. -

The best player for a franchise woefully thin on defensive prospects? Your own source suggests that would be Juolevi. Olli Juolevi: The best all-around defenceman available in this draft. Some guys are bigger, faster, stronger. Some guys are better offensively. Some guys are better defensively. But nobody has the complete package of Juolevi. I’ll say it again, I wanted Sergachev but was neither surprised nor disappointed with Juolevi being picked. His injuries are unfortunate but he may yet turn out for us. -

Not all alien life forms are nice. -
That is strange. From their Twitter page they only listed 26 and no announcement of who is in the bubble. I don’t know if teams are carrying any sort of taxi squad but you would kind of assume so.

He is all finished now. The Russian team for the World Championships was just announced and he was left off so he is officially done.

Geoff would be fine in an advisory role to FA but I think his history pretty much rules him out for any position that puts him out front where he is the face of the franchise. I doubt he has any interest beyond an advisor anyway.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson
4petesake replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The most logical reason of all is that he was going to be UFA at the end of the year. If you want to be sure to keep him you sign him now. If you wait you lose all control. Whether or not you want to re-sign him or at what salary and term is a different discussion. -
[discussion/poll] Trent Cull - next coach of the Canucks?
4petesake replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Cull seems like a complete sideways move with nothing suggesting he’d be any improvement on Green. I’d like an experienced coach as well but the only names that seem to be available right now are Babcock, hard no, and Gallant, softer no. If a coaching change is made I’d be looking a someone who is currently an NHL assistant coach like Lane Lambert from the Islanders, Rocky Thompson in San Jose or Kirk Muller ex-Montreal. I’d be interviewing many other guys like Bennett in Colorado who has been a long-time assistant for a couple of other clubs. Find an assistant from a team that is successful at playing a style that suits our core and build from there. -
I like Motte too but my only concern is can his body hold up to the style he plays? His injuries are starting to pile up. That said I haven’t seen enough of Lind yet and obviously none of Gadj so too early to say for me. If Gadj looks promising he has some parts to his game that we are desperate for.

Lots of talk about sitting vets and playing new guys tonight. Can we hear some names please. Who did you want to see that was eligible to play? Here are some of the guys who got in tonight: Michealis, Hawryluk, MacEwen, Graovic, Rathbone, Chatfield, Vesey, Boyd, Highmore and the guy everyone says has lost it, Edler. That’s a pretty large number. Ice time was spread out more than we ever see from Travis. I guess the fourth line could have played a little more if I’m being picky. Short of telling the players to lose (which is never going to happen and there would be literal he’ll to pay from the league) what more are you asking for? Remember, throwing games is highly illegal. Green dressed a pretty inferior lineup and they won anyways. Jeez, get over it already.

It’s important to show respect for what players like Eddie have done for the team. Look at the turmoil caused by Torts starting Lack in the Heritage Classic. Also if he has played as poorly as is suggested here shouldn’t we be happy he is dressed? Personally I would have sat out another vet in addition to Schmidt. More Edler, more youngsters.
