  1. He’s not my favourite coach but like him or not that was a pretty crappy way to let your coach go in Florida. Definite lack of class treating him like Joe Dirt.
  2. It’s lots of fun for my celebs that’s for sure. I joined late and missed a couple of good choices but I am still batting .000. I’m like that little angel sitting on their shoulders keeping them all safe!
  3. I don’t know why but I had assumed he was retiring. Now I see he has already announced he’d like to play again next year whether in San Jose or elsewhere.
  4. Oh exactly, my point was more related to the JB bashing. When people blame him for every single thing that happens in Canuckland and you point out how silly it is, you instantly get called a nut-hugger. C’est la vie!
  5. Retroactive punishment for what was legal and relatively widespread should have been fought by ownership in court. The formula for the recapture penalty was changed in the most recent CBA and surprise, it had no benefit to the Canucks. Who did it help? Well Nashville for one. Can you imagine the Preds having over $24 million recapture in one season? Me neither, the NHL was never going to let that happen to one of their preferred American partners. So far only Roberto Luongo has created such penalties with his retirement last year. When Luongo hung up his pads, the Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers were each forced to deal with penalties against their salary cap, with the former suffering the bigger charge. The Canucks have a $3.033MM penalty through the 2021-22 season and unfortunately will not receive any relief from this rule change given Luongo’s cap hit was $5.33MM. The biggest winner (if you can even call it that) out of this new change may be the Nashville Predators, who were in danger of a potential ~$24.6MM cap charge if Shea Weber had retired just before the 2025-26 season. That number will now not eclipse the $7.86MM cap hit he carries, though that means it would be spread out over several years as the entire penalty must still be paid eventually. Previously this is what faced the team, calculated by Pierre Lebrun.
  6. It doesn’t matter where you rank JB, it doesn’t matter where I rank him and it doesn’t matter where this forum ranks him. The only ranking of any importance is done by Aquilini. Everything else is opinion, and yes we are all entitled to them. Citing an opinion piece by Mathew Zator (Canucks Army) as proof of anything other than his own view is pointless. This isn’t Bob Mackenzie we’re talking about.
  7. I’ll be very curious to see Edler’s demeanour in the last home game. I don’t know why but I just feel like he might be considering retiring so I’ll be watching for any extra stick wave to the “crowd” or emotion in his face. Does anyone know what night the last home game is?
  8. I have no issue with the players wanting to win. All you have to do is look at Bo and Demko to see that losing is eating them up. What I do want to see is Green dress as many kids & new guys as possible and to play more of an “experimental” style. I think Calgary looks like they are taking the same approach. If we win, fine, if we lose fine also. I can’t root for losses but it won’t bother me in the least if they do. In the end the lottery is a crapshoot anyway. Actually I don’t think it matters what we want as the team looks totally spent and demoralized so I think they’ll win one more (Edm) and maybe one of the Calgary games.
  9. Along those lines...I saw this the other day and I have been trying to decide what I think about it. There is some truth to it but on the other hand they are doing reasonably well and do need to open up at some point. So yes being able to watch them will give us a good idea of what/when our re-opening should look like.
  10. This season of playing the same few teams over and over has reinforced my dislike for the way the NHL has tried to manufacture rivalries with their previous realignment. I much preferred the old system where you had a home and away game with every team. You had a decent chance to see all the stars of the league and real rivalries were created organically. Yes I know with the number of teams and games this is more difficult.
  11. No you can’t manufacture a rivalry just on geography but there will be the beginnings of a natural rivalry based on the expansion draft rules. Since we haven’t won a cup in our 50 year history we are quite jealous of the generosity that the NHL showed Vegas and their resulting success. If Seattle has similar success it will become a hard pill to swallow for Canuck fans. The real rivalry will only come over time as the teams meet.
  12. Well, you can’t wait for an injury to happen then call them up. There’s a seven day quarantine to consider. Never mind, already answered.
  13. Not a fan of tanking either but silly gif are moronic? That’s a bridge to far for me (obviously). There are more than enough words spoken on these boards saying the same things over and over ad nauseum. Sometimes a nice simple gif says what you want it to say. Easy to check out and move on for everybody.
  14. I think this is what worries me the most this year. Various rumours about wanting to take the cheap route in coaching, buyouts, etc. No matter how much some people want Benning, Green et al gone if they are replaced by cheap generic no-names life isn’t going to get any better here. We won’t be talking about next year or two years to compete anymore.
  15. Ouchhh, not fair. Use a different example! Don’t get me started on the way the league sold out to make sure their new star franchise was competitive. This one still stings. That said, Vegas did an excellent job gaming the system.
  16. If we were going to move big pieces there is no way I’d do it for Eichel, specially with his medical history. There has been some talk that Monahan could be one of the names in play in the off-season. I’m not sure I believe it and I doubt Calgary would trade him within the division but I would be far more interested in Monahan. Their stats are pretty comparable and without some of the baggage.
  17. In Kentucky? Yes, unfortunately.
  18. Flames fans are pulling hard for losses too. They want to see Marky sit out and have all the young guys play, just like we do. If they start Domingue we’ll know they are serious about this turtle derby. These could be ugly games.
