I love pictures like this, specially when people recognize and comment on their memories.

It depends, what’s an emergency? I think this qualifies as someone who is likely to die without immediate surgery. If it’s a choice between the life of this man and an anti-vaxxer who catches Covid this is a no-brainer for me. If it was your dad? Brother? Son? COVID-19: Kelowna, B.C. cancer patient desperate for surgery as Omicron forces delays By Klaudia Van Emmerik Global News Posted January 5, 2022 4:57 pm Updated January 5, 2022 5:15 pm Facing a cancer battle is not how 67-year-old Randy Stinson imagined his retirement. The Kelowna, B.C., man was first diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma in November 2020. Six months later during his cancer check-up, Stinson was told more bad news — that he had thyroid cancer. “Once you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, life changes,” he told Global News. “You really go … down pretty low, and you think a lot about death.” Making an already difficult situation even harder is the fact that Stinson has no idea when he’ll be getting surgery on his thyroid to remove the cancer. “Cancer is a very scary thing and I just don’t feel it’s right to have to sit on the sidelines like this, when it very easily can cut my life quite short,” Stinson said. His wife Janice Stinson said the couple was told Randy would be getting his surgery at the beginning of January, but almost a week in, the surgery hasn’t been booked and they can’t even get answers as to when the operation may be scheduled. “We’ve contacted the surgical booking office, and we were told that they were having trouble finding somebody to assist the surgeon,” she said. “As well, there’s other issues with you know, the operating rooms being short-staffed.” Stinson is one of thousands of British Columbians facing surgery delays as COVID case counts surge amid the highly-transmissible Omicron variant, as well as the health-care system’s continuing struggle to deal with staffing shortages. “I’m sure that there are a lot of other people in the same situation and that maybe then we will hear something from the health ministry as to what plans they are working on to help to make the system better,” Janice Stinson said. Global News contacted the Ministry of Health to get the latest information on the surgery delays at B.C. hospitals and the reason behind cancer operations being delayed. In an email, however, a spokesperson said a response would likely come Thursday. “It’s scary to think that these people aren’t getting access to health care,” said Janice. “It just seems like they are just concentrating on COVID instead of working towards an overall solution. “For two years now we’ve been going through the same thing, and you would hope that they have other other plans in place or there they could at least say they’re working on trying to make the health-care system better.” The Stinsons are desperately hoping to get a call soon about the surgery so that Randy’s feelings of desperation can turn to some hope. “It is very stressful. It’s very stressful on him and it is for me to trying constantly to keep positive,” Janice said. The couple has booked a European river cruise for fall so that their retirement isn’t all about cancer and treatments — something they hope comes to fruition. “I just want an answer, like, could someone please tell me when you’re going to be able to do this for me,” an emotional Randy Stinson said. “You know, I’m not that young. “We wish somebody would just talk to us. That’s all.”

We already are a country that denies medical care, we are just too nice to call it for what it is. Delayed medical care (which is happening now) is tantamount to denying care for many.

You have to admit the meme potential for this could be awesome! Incoming…lots of closeups of this “rock.”

Three Canucks getting a little bit of love (maybe friend-zoned is a better description) in the NHL trophy races. I didn’t realize BB won the year he replaced Carrot Top after 21 games, so taking over after TG wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. One can dream… -

More proof that these cute little buggers are fricken terrorists. -
Merck already has Molnupiravir approved for emergency use authorization and Pfizer recently received the same FDA authorization for Paxlovid but neither contains Ivermectin. I hope that both prove to be excellent treatments and get full approval. Regardless, I’m done arguing about conspiracy theories around Ivermectin. For those who want it and can get a doctor to prescribe it, fill your boots. If you can’t get it and want to take the non-prescription animal version do your thing.
-
Even if that’s so it’s regular old Ivermectin that @Gatzkek is arguing for. Seems like common sense that Merck or your other 3 manufacturers would be trying to move as much product as possible in the meantime. @karvalegov If Ivermectin could be purchased for .01 per dose no publicly traded company would manufacture it.
-
So I gather you are saying Merck is better off selling as little as possible while they try to develop something new? That’s a bold strategy for a publicly traded company.
-
No I am not a doctor, ask your question of one of the doctors who post here regularly. Take the argument up with the manufacturer, ask them why they don’t want to sell more product. Take the argument up with the FDA who approves drugs for usage after reviewing studies.
-
Doctors are not free to prescribe drugs that are not approved and it has always been that way. It’s pretty simple: If Ivermectin proves to be beneficial for treating Covid it will be approved but so far studies have been inconclusive. Merck, the manufacturer of Ivermectin has already put out a statement on its use in treatment of Covid. No scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against COVID-19 from pre-clinical studies; No meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with COVID-19 disease, and; A concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies. We do not believe that the data available support the safety and efficacy of ivermectin beyond the doses and populations indicated in the regulatory agency-approved prescribing information. The FDA has this to say - https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/why-you-should-not-use-ivermectin-treat-or-prevent-covid-19

For those still wondering why people get so angry at the anti-vaxxers and the spaces they take up in hospitals…

Why Does The Media And Many Fans Still Consider Our Defense Suspect?
4petesake replied to Rindiculous's topic in Canucks Talk
The media is like a train in that once it builds a head of steam it’s incredibly hard to stop or change direction. People who are too lazy or spend little to no time watching the team just pile on the train and don’t bother making an informed judgement. The recent drivel about OEL being bad because his offence is down would be lining the bottom of a birdcage in the days of newspapers. -
This will come as no surprise…”peacekeepers.”

I first learned of the “roto-prone” bed in @JoeyJoeJoeJr. Shabadoo’s post on page 1985, nasty looking device. If you are in this bed you are literally fighting for your last gasps of breath. This is a bit long so I know most won’t bother but it is well worth the time.

Got my booster today. Sucks to find out this mess is all my fault.

Alberta had to send ICU patients to Manitoba and Ontario when they couldn’t handle the volume. Asked BC to take some but their request was turned down.

OK, not a picture but this is very rare.

Excellent Redditt sub (although a little too heavily weighted to war pics) is r/historyporn for these sorts of photos.

Says “you guys are the last of the old racists.” Follows it up with “There’s the categorizing again.” You keep retreating to rhetoric every time someone calls you on facts.
