  1. Trading him now would have risks as well though. Signing a UFA and trading him right away after he pretty much accomplishes what you hoped he would could leave other agents and UFAs with a sour taste. That’s at least worth considering in the decision to extend him.
  2. Taken from a man’s obituary in the Campbell River Mirror: Russell would’ve liked to have had 6 of the Vancouver Canucks to be his pallbearers so they could let him down one more time.
  3. The NHL will make every effort to ensure the lottery is conducted fraudulently fairly. Sorry, autocorrect.
  4. Yup different eras entirely. Agree to disagree on the rest. Gino had to fight in a league filled with true heavyweights while Reaves has to fight only the very occasional tough guy. So what does Reaves do that Gino couldn’t? Doesn’t skate, hit, score or fight better.
  5. Gino’s last 3 years 9g + 8a = 17 pts. +5 186 pim Reaves’ last 3 6g + 18a = 24 pts -16 89 pim I say if Reaves has a place in today’s NHL then so would Gino. IMO Reaves is not a better hockey player in any way, shape or form.
  6. Now just a damn minute!! OK just kidding, I take your point but you’re giving too much credit to Reaves and not enough to Gino. Check their stats out side by side and you’ll see they are pretty much comparable with possibly a slight edge to Gino.
  7. Out of curiosity…this is the second time you’ve asked for this thread to be shut down. Why? It’s just discussion. Generally when I find that a thread gets bothersome to me I just stop going to that thread and let others carry on while letting the mods make their own decisions.
  8. Umm the goal has already been scored whether we celebrate or not. If we don’t celebrate will they take it off the board? Who’s the idiot in this scenario?
  9. What about if enough of us wouldn’t support it and teams just cancelled mental health night entirely? You might look at us as the 39 who do support and accept you and are speaking out in your support. Same way as we are speaking out in support of LGBTQ.
  10. I don’t want to be accused of stooping to hyperbole and call that a witch hunt but the torches are a little on the nose. With regards to religion: But midway through the decade, backlashes also started to sprout. Some targeted transgender people’s rights. Many took the form of religious exemption laws that let people, churches and sometimes businesses cite religious beliefs as a reason not to enforce a law, such as declining to marry a same-sex couple or letting state-funded foster agencies refuse to place kids with LGBTQ parents. In 2010, only one state had a religious exemption law. Now 13 states have those laws. “But it was a strategic move on (opponents’) part. Yes, you can go get married, but when you show up to get that license, we can say no – you have to go somewhere else.” And more harmful bills are percolating. In 2020, MAP’s database shows at least 121 anti-LGBTQ pieces of legislation in the mix in various states.
  11. And that’s what “Hockey is for everybody” is all about. It says to the LGBTQ community that you have a right to be here, you are welcome and safe here. It definitely does not say “you will be tolerated here.”
  12. I posted this earlier and deleted it by mistake. Philly is paying Torts $4M and AV $5M. Says a bit about judgement but really, what difference does it make.
  13. Good point re Torts. Not that I’m convinced that his epiphany is genuine but it has been pointed out that he has changed his opinion regarding players kneeling/protesting during the anthem. If he really has changed his outlook how do people think that came about? Here’s a hint - from discussions just like these. I don’t understand why people in this thread can’t see the value of the conversation.
