  1. This is pure draft foam. Pearson is ALREADY DECLINING. It’s not like he is in the middle of an upward trajectory and I’m predicting his decline out of thin air. It’s already happened. Once a 28 year old starts dipping down, that’s usually it. Very rarely will they meet their peak again. He will flutter into obscurity. Then I’ll have to listen to everyone talk about how good he is at killing penalties and showing 28 year old 10 year veteran Bo Horvat how to be a pro... again. How do you guys not see this as the birth of another turd on the payroll? It’s like we go through this every time over the past 7 years and you all keep making the same argument and clearly lose all of them as Father Time inevitably proves you wrong. Stop defending everything this buffoon does.
  2. Unpopular opinion. Our second line of Pearson/ Horvat is a 3rd line on a good cup contender. We are literally a second line short of being a deep team. Depth is having 2-3 players in their mid 20’s with a combined cap hit equal to what Pearson makes. This is why we have no depth, we blow our bottom 6 allowance on like 3 mediocre players. Outside of CDC the Pearson contract is under extreme criticism. The timing, the order of priorities. You do not build depth by spending 3.25M on a middle winger. You draft and acquire young players and hedge their upswing. We will never get anywhere paying players like Pearson this kind of money because we won’t be able to pay 2 top lines and 2 top pairings.
  3. There is absolutely no indicator that has me convinced Pearson is going to continue to production at a +\-45 point per season rate. He is having his worst year statistically this year, he is also injured and he is 28 years old. The vast majority of 28 year olds have peaked. So every year after 28 will be a progression downward. This why signing UFA’s doesn’t work most of the time. You’re paying a player for what he did and never project a downward trend. This will be dead weight. He will be in the bottom 6 by the 3rd year, without question.
  4. Stop living in the past man, he is having his statistically worst season ever this year. Now he is injured. There is absolutely nothing indicating he will maintain a 45 point pace in the next 3 seasons. This is the problem with a lot of Jim Benning signings. He tends to pay the premium for what a player accomplished in the past. He never considers that most UFA’s are at their peak the day they are signed. From 28- whatever most UFA’s will begin their decline. He never accounts for this. He always assumes they’ll remain consistent. So we almost always pay a player like Pearson for what he did in the past and not what he is going to be producing in the future. You make those hedges with RFA’s fixing to break out. Like Demko. Not with a 28 year old who already bounced off his ceiling.
  5. Everything I’m feeling is in this tweet. It’s just astonishing to find people who support this stuff. There isn’t a single player on that list that changed point a to point b. Meaning, the outcome of our seasons would not have changed with or without those players. We would still be essentially the same team points wise but instead we would have a disturbing amount of free cap space to exploit contending teams flat cap issues. Oh, then there is always the, insulate youth crowd. If you really believe that’s essential, why not take a cap burden veteran from a contender in exchange for prospects and picks? If you’re going to have dead weight on your cap you might as well get something for it.
  6. If you can skate good, know how to be a pro and are just starting to get grey hair, Jim Benning offers you his protection.
  7. Cool, nevermind then, thanks Jim. No way we could ever recover by letting him go.
  8. Comments like this to collect upvotes is like collecting flys at the garage dump. Hold some poop and they’ll come right in. instead of resigning the most abundant player in the NHL to market value in a historic buyers market. Why not lay low and see if you can do a little something like the hawks did with some cap flexibility?
  9. Why does Jim have this deep rooted hate for cap flexibility? Did something traumatic happen in his childhood? Being up to his eyeballs in salary cap is being metaphorically swaddled? Does he need a hug? Cause I’ll hug the crap out of him if he stops paying 30 year olds like 22 year olds.
  10. Right on, let’s just splice Tanner Pearson right into that list. Great research.
  11. He will be on the 4th line halfway through this contract. Gretzky was a great player too, you wanna pull him out of retirement and pay him 10M? How about Benning thinks further than today?
  12. Relax everyone, Pearson will be off the books in 3 more years. Then we will have so much cap space guys. Like so much Capspace. Why is everyone overreacting. Like, Pearson knows how to be a pro guys. He skates really well.
  13. I’ve been around a lot longer than my post count suggests. I’m surprised nobody has figured out who I am yet. Anyway. It’s people like yourself that will literally go with anything Benning does to get upvotes that makes CDC extra special. In 2 or 3 years you’ll be telling everyone to relax because Pearson will be off the books soon anyway as benning simultaneously strokes his pen to lock up another redundant forward who “skates well” who “knows how to be a pro” for 3 years. Ya, you’ll be all chill, collecting upvotes and flexing your big time post count and legendary reputation from years of being the voice of reason when Benning pulls out his pen. As soon as you saw this signing, you probably walked into a phone booth, changed from Clark Kent to Superman and logged onto CDC.
  14. I’ve said this several times before. Everyone is all pumped about this new found cap space we are going to have in 2 years. Haha, it’s going to get used up before we even get there. We will never have cap space. As long as Jim Benning is the GM of the Canucks we will always be in cap trouble. This is right on par with all his other horrific contracts. So bitterly disappointing.
  15. Exactly. Here is my unpopular opinion. Pearson is overrated and redundant. We need RHD and a C. Who cares about Pearson? We will be excited to get him off the books on that 3rd year, he will be more garbage preventing us from making a move to put us over the top.
  16. I’m talking more about the bottom 6. And 2 out of 3 d pairings. I thought I was clear about that but I guess I wasn’t.
  17. We aren’t going to win the Stanley cup. Let us finish with this point total and compensate us with lottery odds since the NHL Covid protocol and our government failed us. I can’t believe that we are the only team to have a full outbreak out of all the teams in all the major sports playing through this. Pretty embarrassing. It’s also embarrassing that only the North Division is going to be unvaccinated. The NHLPA and the NHL need to step up. You can walk into a pharmacy in the US and get a shot, boom, done. It’s unfortunate that we have a buffoon as PM but certainly the league can take matters into its own hands and get the league vaccinated. At this rate the North Division won’t be vaccinated till Christmas and we definitely won’t be opening the boarder.
  18. I’m most annoyed with the lack of chemistry. We don't have a D pairing that clicks. There are no 2 players in the bottom 6 that play well with each other, it’s crazy. Everyone yells about Travis Green and his dump and chase style of hockey. What choice does he have? You going to be a puck possession team with Sutter? Virtanen? These guys probably can’t even figure out Monkey in the middle and we expect them to cycle the puck? Lol. It’s Like Benning only focuses only on skating which has made us one of the lowest hockey IQ teams in the league. We have no playmakers. I’m Not talking about guys who can also make plays, I’m talking about guys who’s main focus is making plays. Not skating through the neutral zone with “onside”being your only offensive instinct.
  19. This is stressing me out so bad that I am completely repressing hockey and sports so I’m not reminded of it.
  20. Anyone who has followed this team for Multiple decades, already assumed this would happen, understands why it happened and fully excepts it. It’s the most Canuck thing ever, it’s just another chapter.
