So the guy selling 50/50 tickets next season could be making $6 million.

I wouldn't describe our defencemen as rag-tag. We have some great players but there is no structure to them, We get hemmed in our own zone for way too long, it seemed like we spent 60% of last night's game trying to play out from our D zone and failing. The result is that we get very few shots at the other end of the ice. Montreal and Winnipeg are no more than average teams, we have no chance against good teams like Boston, Washington and Tampa Bay with our present defensive setup.

Your use of Bolton FC as an analogy was a bit unfortunate. Whilst the club itself has a long history, the last time they dropped out of the Premier League they continued dropping until they were in League Two (the fourth tier). They went into administration in 2019 and were only saved from bankruptcy by a last minute investor. They have a huge problem because they are in the shadow of the 2 Manchester clubs who can outspend them in every department. Imagine there were 2 NHL clubs in Vancouver and one BCHL club, which would you go and watch?

Unfortunately it's a bad habit JB has; he overpays for people. A quick look at Holtby's stats would tell you that he peaked from 2014/15 to 2016/17 during which time he had 21 shutouts. In his last year in Washington he had no shutouts, his save percentage was below 9.00 and he allowed over 3 goals per game. For most managers that would have set the alarm bells ringing.

Roussel has 3 points and 35 PIM in 29 games. Vesey gets more points, stays out of the box more and can play on the PK. Sounds like a direct replacement to me, at a third of the price.
