Our core was built through the draft. No team is built entirely through the draft. They all make trades and UFA signings. Which teams is built entirely of their own draft picks? Calgary? How about looking at all the cup winners like Tampa. Much of that team is actually made up of traded players and UFA signings, not just players they drafted. Just admit it, you expect us to perpetually tank until our team is made up of all draft picks. The problem is that not all draft picks pan out, and the ones that do just get older and eventually get fed up with the losing and want out.

Chychrun is two years older than Hughes and has been in the league for five seasons compared to Hughes' two. Funny how you are using Chychrun to trash Hughes.

Except, who said someone like Parayko would make it to UFA? If he did, someone will likely pay him close to $10 million based on the contracts defensemen got this offseason. If we did that, that is a lot of our capspace gone just for one person. Parayko alone doesn't fix our problems, and we wouldn't have enough to get someone like Garland to help out up front. Stop acting like our core would sit there and accept losing constantly. We have a great young core and we need to start building around it, instead of tanking and waiting years for prospects to hopefully come in and help.
