  1. I don't know how many of you speak Mandarin, but Chinese people are really, really mad at the government right now for the entire Zhengzhou tunnel situation. People trying to get to their missing family members arrested, tow truck driver who said at least 6300 dead arrested, no one notified about the flood until a few minutes before the tunnel was completely submerged, officials acting to protect themselves and no one doing anything to help the thousands stuck in a 2 mile long tunnel. People are realizing the only thing the government protects is themself and care little about the people. The automatic tolls were running as people drowned. The CCP is downplaying this hard but it got out of control because of all the cell phone videos. Hopefully this is a spark for real change in the country, and the CCP don't just get away with it. But they have sent the military in, but people are still upset, because the inefficiency and inability of the CCP to provide for its people was shown to everyone. Of course, Chinese netizens are pointing out how insane it is that the PLA is showing up after the fact to silence people, but areas under severe flooding right now are getting no help at all.
  2. Because Gillis did more in less time, a lot more. The team was it's best ever under Gillis while JB has had 7 years and more and more we're looking like Edmonton.
  3. The main difference is vaccines, understanding of the spread of the disease and modern medicine. You are delusional if you think it's anything else. Also, doctors aren't a good source. Family doctors can be poorly educated from abroad, and generally are because doctors with education from Canadian universities either move to the US to make bank or specialize most of the time. There are a lot of stupid RN's that are anti-vaccine. Treating people doesn't mean you understand the complexities of virology.
  4. At this point, anti-vaccine people are arguing for their own death. There are two ways forwards from this point in rich countries where there have been strong mRNA vaccine drives. Everyone gets vaccinated, or only 80% get the shot and the last 20% just die. I'm not being dramatic. The virus will cling on vaccinated people, losing against their immune system, and latch onto the unprotected ones and just destroy them because there is no resistance in the body. The problem is these anti-vaccine people want to protect their health by essentially signing their own death warrant, convinced the side effects from the shot will be much worse than what they consider to still be "just a flu." Playing "devils advocate" for the anti-vaccine crowd is basically arguing that it's their right to be misinformed and kill themselves from ignorance. These people were lied to and tricked by con men and social media, they deserve to be protected against themselves, we are all human and a mistake or being stupid shouldn't result in an execution and a lot of anti-vaccine individuals can eventually be reasoned with. This isn't a normal situation. People are still in shock that we're living through Spanish flu 2.0, black death 3.0, but we are advanced enough medically that the death toll isn't already in the 100 millions. Change your mindset accordingly.
  5. This is some very brutal stuff, don't watch if you don't feel like being depressed. I hope the government isn't lying and all those people in the subway and stuck in their cars were saved.
  6. People are really critical of this Olympics, and not without reason, but damn if I'm not going to ignore the complaints when 99% of the people who are bitching will sit on their hands when 2022 happens because China is a lot more powerful than Japan, and will make sure mainstream media don't report on all the reasons why 2022 shouldn't happen. Canada's uniforms are &^@#ing ugly.
  7. I mean, you just used a very common logical fallacy that you named in your first sentence. Documentation over an individuals inoculation status isn't forcing everyone to have a barcode on their forehead any government agent can scan. If you want international travel right now, with the inability of many nations to store and use mRNA vaccines which are the ones strong enough to actually provide serious protection against this diseases many variants, is to make sure anyone entering or leaving Canada has protection. If someone wants to go to a foreign country without a vaccine and come back with a new variant they are being extremely selfish.
  8. You have lots of people who think that China's draconian shut down policies worked so well that the numbers are real, and they've been pumping propaganda that everything's back to normal (despite everyone wearing masks through 2020) the last year. China will never give real numbers to the outside world, they only put out information that enforces whatever narrative they want. Like the article before, my 1.4 billion doses, so many doses! They 100% have the data for first and second doses, but vaccine hesitancy is a huge thing in China, and the proper data would reveal they have a big problem over that like the US, which isn't good for optics.
  9. Uhh.. I agree with the sentiment but a census would be needed when doing any of that.
  10. The media always uses language as a tool, and while the CBC has been forthcoming about the reality of the graves, free media is used against democracies for profit and geopolitical reasons. Skewed articles, misleading language and outright lies, putting it in an ignorant person's head that there's mass graves full of children being dug up. You ask a Russian or Chinese person this they will 100% think Canada is uncovering holocaust style mass graves, ask an American maybe 75% will say it, hell a lot of Canadians think this is the cast. It's an unfortunate reality from the internet increasing a persons capability for absorbing information, if you can overload someone with enough false information, they will take it as fact.
  11. Canadian experts have data from Canadians who have mixed Pfizer and Moderna and I'd trust them over the WHO. This should just reinforce the idea that you should ignore what the WHO is saying and listen to your local authorities if they are backed by the medical community.
  12. I don't think any medical community in the world is listening to the WHO any more.
  13. Not just profits, and basically what happens is a poor country can't pay back the loans for a gigantic port or airport or rail system, and China says "let us own it for the next 50+ years and we'll forgive the debt." Now China basically has a military port off India's coast in Sri Lanka, for example. Obviously there aren't any military boats or subs at the port right now, but it's Chinese owned and they could use it to refuel subs or host their navy in the future if they want to pressure India. "HAMBANTOTA, Sri Lanka — Every time Sri Lanka’s president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, turned to his Chinese allies for loans and assistance with an ambitious port project, the answer was yes. Yes, though feasibility studies said the port wouldn’t work. Yes, though other frequent lenders like India had refused. Yes, though Sri Lanka’s debt was ballooning rapidly under Mr. Rajapaksa. Over years of construction and renegotiation with China Harbor Engineering Company, one of Beijing’s largest state-owned enterprises, the Hambantota Port Development Project distinguished itself mostly by failing, as predicted. With tens of thousands of ships passing by along one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, the port drew only 34 ships in 2012. And then the port became China’s. Mr. Rajapaksa was voted out of office in 2015, but Sri Lanka’s new government struggled to make payments on the debt he had taken on. Under heavy pressure and after months of negotiations with the Chinese, the government handed over the port and 15,000 acres of land around it for 99 years in December. The transfer gave China control of territory just a few hundred miles off the shores of a rival, India, and a strategic foothold along a critical commercial and military waterway." https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/25/world/asia/china-sri-lanka-port.html
  14. The problem is even the data we have doesn't give a strong conclusion one way or the other. People like to act like the scientific community has a consensus about this but it's not true, still no natural natural reservoirs or intermediate hosts have been found and there's so many issues with how the WHO has handled this there's never going to be proof one way or another, so China already won in this way.
  15. It wasn't designed but it almost certainly leaked from a lab. We should really shut down this kind of research around the world. When you have the guy in charge of the "investigation" talking about gain of function research on corona viruses from south Chinese bats in a lab in the city of the initial outbreak in an interview before the pandemic, then contradicting his own organization by implying the virus came from frozen food, you know there's not going to be much facts around this situation.
  16. I don't smoke myself, but is it fair to say BC has completely botched legalization? I know many of my friends don't buy from legal places because of price and quality issues, and the ones that aren't okay with continuing to buy illegally have taken up growing their own to try and deal with these issues.
  17. We're at like 70% first dosed and 40% fully, I have yet to see any country in Europe get close to that outside of the UK and they have less people on their first dose because of propaganda, which is causing the small outbreaks there. We are nearing 100% fully vaccinated in major threat areas. I know by the end of July almost everyone above 20 in Surrey is going to be fully vaccinated with mRNA vaccines. Canada seems to be one of the few countries that isn't having the issue of a large portion of it's community refusing vaccines, probably because of the country using public schools to vaccinate children so the public is less susceptible to vaccine anxiety.
  18. We're not Europe, we used the good vaccines only and now we have a near herd immune society. Stop listening to alarmist $&!#, it's over, it's been 2 years. The only people saying "it's not enough" for Canada are journalists.
  19. If you are wondering why SA hates China so much, they used to have a thriving trade relationship with Taiwan, until China literally strong armed them out of it using their economic power as leverage.
  20. Yes, but the effects are notably worse in China. China used to have tigers, rhinos, lions all extinct while they survive in close by countries. For as much as Australia gets about the great barrier reef, coral reefs in the South China sea are in WORSE shape.
  21. I agree, which is why I want you to realize when these kinds of arguments erupt across the internet, it's always someone bringing up the US to deflect from China. This is literally their propaganda tactic. Go to any social media website you want, twitter, reddit, facebook, 4chan, you make an anti-Chinese post, or look at any anti-China posts, the very first response, usually in broken English, is "yeah but America." They use this against their own population, the US has so many school shootings and is dangerous, you should be happy we took away guns or the kindergarten stabbings would be much worse! (This isn't an argument against gun control) And the people that control the west aren't the people that control China.
  22. I'm sure the collapsing ecosystem in China, where environmentalism is illegal, will take solace that Australia has a worse carbon footprint per capita than China. https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/6/47/eabd0952 Climate change is a global problem but like Greta said, unless China changes it's tune we're all &^@#ed. And China in response to this one tweet lead a campaign of hate against her.
  23. "Outdated" links analyzing CO2 emissions from 2018 because that's the most recent data, which was published a few weeks ago. This is why people get angry when talking about China. You can't even admit you were wrong about CO2. Have to deflect and act like I'm insane when I just don't want 4 billion people to have to bend to this crazy regime. Why is it whenever anyone says something bad about China, another comes at the poster with something about another country messing up? Almost like it's by design.
  24. I like how everyone who was defending China just ignored this post with hard facts. lol >CO2 emissions from advanced economies have fallen by 1.8 Gt CO2 since 2000, and their share in global emissions has declined by twenty percentage points to less than one-third of the global total. Rank Country CO2 emissions (total) 1 China 10.06GT 2 United States 5.41GT 3 India 2.65GT 4 Russian Federation 1.71GT 5 Japan 1.16GT 6 Germany 0.75GT 7 Islamic Republic of Iran 0.72GT 8 South Korea 0.65GT 9 Saudi Arabia 0.62GT 10 Indonesia 0.61GT 11 Canada 0.56GT 12 Mexico 0.47GT 13 South Africa 0.46GT 14 Brazil 0.45GT 15 Turkey 0.42GT 16 Australia 0.42GT 17 United Kingdom 0.37GT 18 Poland 0.34GT 19 France 0.33GT 20 Italy 0.33GT 21 Kazakhstan 0.32GT
  25. Yeah it's great you just joke about a real issue like I'm crazy, when your first post in the thread was "what about 'murica'" for no reason. Wumao?
