First Off, A top pairing Dman in the NHL is worth far more than an top 5 pick in the draft. Second, Signing him would make him worth considerably more. Third, where do you get the likely top 5 pick from? Our pick is likely top 10 and extremely unlikely to be a top 5 pick. There is little chance we go 1-5-0 or 0-3-2 in the final 5 games to get a top 5 pick. We aren't going to lose 4 to calgary it will like be 2-2 or 2-1-1 or 1-2-1 which puts us out of a top 5 pick unless we won the lottery which we have never done. Anaheim could get a kings ransom for Lindholm if they wanted to trade him which they would be stupid to do so. Edit: I just saw you say Dougie Hamilton was a defense dman and implied he was better than Lindholm. We are done here, lmao.

I don't mind green and clarke but the others have to go absolutely.

JB said at the draft something like he is capable of being a number 1 dman and then the following year or so after he was like we still have hope he can be a top 4 dman.. and I just find it odd that so quickly he can go from being number 1 calibre to top 4 it seemed like once JB saw more of him he realized he only had top 4 potential which kinda sucks for a top 5 pick.

You say we as if I had same opinion as you. If MacEwan is as good as you say he is why would JB even expose him? Horvat,Boeser,Pearson,Miller,Motte and? Why wouldn't he just be protected then? -

Fortunately he has a whole brain and won't do something this stupid. -
This guy always thought he was worth way more than he was. He complained about ice-time when he was here and he didn't deserve top 4 minutes. He could have developed into a good NHL dman but he didn't want to go through a development period. He just wanted to be given top 4 minutes. It doesn't sound like anything has changed. He wants to be paid for something he hasn't proven he is worth. He doesn't really want to play in the NHL he just wants to be paid in guaranteed money. When he saw what he was being offered he didn't even bother to negotiate and just took the money from the KHL. I am glad he didn't sign here. He has no interest in playing in the NHL. This team doesn't need players like that.

[Proposal] Vegas | Vancouver
SirCosmoDuffGordon replied to SirCosmoDuffGordon's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I am in agreement with you with the value of Theodore. I wouldn't label Miller as a winger. With how good he is at the draws he is definitely a top 6 centre. I do agree him alone wouldn't be enough to land Theodore. I just think he can be a big part of acquiring him. I don't think I am wrong about Theodore being available if Vegas gets knocked out early. Obviously Eichel would be a great return for Theodore but would Buffalo trade him? Eichel has repeated said he is committed to Buffalo and doesn't want a trade. With how bad that team is I wouldn't want to trade a player who wants to be there. If Eichel isn't available the only other player who may be available is Couturier and he only has one year left on his contract. I would even be willing to do a Horvat + deal for Theodore. if you just look at what might be available there really isn't a lot for Vegas to work with. I just think it's potentially the perfect storm to land Theodore. -
[discussion/poll] Trent Cull - next coach of the Canucks?
SirCosmoDuffGordon replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Calgary said Sutter was one of two people they would hire. Gallant was fired by the Owner of Vegas. Vegas went on a little losing streak the owner walked in and told McPhee either Gallant goes or he does and obviously he fired Gallant. I don't think there is anything behind the scenes that is keeping him from being hired. It would have come out already like it did with Babcock. Gallant just might be waiting for the perfect situation or maybe he wants a longer term contract that teams aren't willing to give right now. -

Shea Theodore is 6'2 when did that become smallish? Who is better than Theodore? There are only a handful of aging Dman who you can say are better than him. Theodore is on pace to be the best dman in the league, even if he didn't get there he will be top 5, and if we can take advantage of a desperate Vegas team we should be all over that. Theodore would be hands down the best player on the team if we traded for him. Not only that but he is signed to a contract for 5.2m for the next 4 years. You want a big Dman like Myers? Look how that has played out. What this team needs is a number 1 Dman. They are incredibly rare and if one is available that is under term, you should be all over that. These players are nearly impossible to acquire. The only reason why Theodore might be available is because of how aggressive the Vegas owner is and involved with the team he is. How badly do they want to upgrade at centre? Hopefully enough that Theodore is on the table. -

Gallant did a great job with Vegas and Florida. He did not deserve to be fired from either team. Look at his records, they are very good. I will say this he likes to play veteran players but I still think he is by far the best coach available and a lot better than Green. -
[Proposal] Vegas | Vancouver

Bleh forum crashed on the response. JT Miller is a centre who can play wing. He wants to play centre. I wouldn't call him a winger. Schmidt is all we have aside from Myers to send back to Vegas to fill the void left by Theodore. I suppose Vegas can wait and see if they land any UFA D and that may change what they want coming back as well. You could work on 3 way trades as well but that is too complicated for a proposal here. Let's not forget that McPhee has made some of the worst trades in NHL history, Erat for Forsberg. Under pressure from the ownership to make a big move I can see him trading Theodore, they already have Pietrangelo. If he doesn't want Miller then I would even do Horvat. You just aren't going to win a Stanley Cup unless you get that number 1 Dman which Theodore is. Theodore is young and signed relatively longer term so he is worth the cost. I am just hoping Vegas goes out early cause you know the Vegas owner will be putting pressure on McPhee to do something! -

If Shea Theodore was the cost of Horvat I'd be shipping Horvat to Vegas. Horvat is a lot easier to replace and we can actually replace him now by shifting JT Miller into that slot. Pettersson and JT Miller at centre with Theodore and Hughes on the backend looks pretty damn good. -

Completely disagree! He is 25 years old signed for another 4 years, with a great cap hit, and already a top 10 dman in the league. He is going to be a Norris dman in his prime. You're giving up Miller who has a similar cap hit but his contract expires far earlier and Schmidt who we acquired for a 3rd round pick. It isn't overpayment at all. -

Accidentally? It literally says he was annoyed with it and moved it on purpose. -
I was thinking if Vegas doesn't win the cup again or goes out relatively early in the playoffs their weakness is at centre. Their owner is very aggressive and wants to win a cup right now. There really isn't much available in terms of C in this upcoming FA. There are some pretty good D who are heading into FA. When I look at everything it's potentially the perfect storm to send JT Miller to Vegas. Vegas just signed Pietrangelo and they've show once they get their guy they aren't afraid to trade other players out. So here is what I am thinking. JT Miller + Schmidt + Joulevi for Shea Theodore Schmidt was a victim of the salary cap but played well for Vegas and Vegas likely loses Fleury to the expansion draft plus Martinez is a UFA so 4m comes off the books, cap wise this works for them. They get a number 1 centre, which they need, and a replacement for what they are losing in Schmidt plus a solid young Dman who is a wild card. We have too many left hand Dman anyway. This gives us an actual young number 1 dman who just happens to be from Vancouver. I am hoping Vegas gets bounced early so they are desperate to make a move for a centre. Like I said they can add a dman in FA on top of getting Schmidt back so I think it's a plausible trade especially with pressure coming from the owner to make a move.
