  1. Benson doesn’t go in the top 18?
  2. Someone’s gonna fall out of the top 6-7 and that’s our guy
  3. 11oa is gonna get us someone that drops out of the top 7-8 which will be a player who would prob go #2-4 in a normal draft year We gotta keep the pick, draft BPA then use our 3rds/4ths to load up on defensemen
  4. Yeah - do a lateral swap for a similarly overpaid player but in a position of need otherwise sit tight in my opinion
  5. There’s no confirmation Pearson is even done surgeries. If he was going to start next season, we would have a timeline by now. Same with Poolman. He couldn’t play at all last year due to an issue doctors haven’t even been able to diagnose yet, and there’s no information saying it’s been diagnosed let alone a recovery process happening. if they’re worried about poolman returning, his contract can be bought out this summer, the cap penalty is negligible. With that done, even if Pearson returns, we will be cap compliant even after signing a backup goaltender. so I see no need to get bent over a barrel to shed salary
  6. Im so confused why do we HAVE to do something? Pearson and Poolman will start the year on LTIR There isnt a move or series of moves that will make us a contender for the 2023-2024 season So why not just run it back and see how we do with decent goaltending, and having exchanged Bo for a top pair RD. Lifes a lot easier next offseason when myers walks
  7. If we walk from Bear, that will leave us about 4m in space - assuming pearson/poolman ride LTIR and we bring in silovs for 900k to backup demko just enough money to not get a top-4 defenseman
  8. yea id say wait a year, we still have a bunch of unknowns 1. can OEL regain his 2021 form? 2. how will this D perform with more structure? 3. how close is filip johansson to playing in the nhl? 4. can hirose play for a full season like he did those past few games? answers to those, plus myers contract expired will paint a clear picture of what to do
  9. He'd be ok 16-17 minutes a night if he wasnt part of the shutdown pair Probably decent as Hughes' partner 5v5, and then Peeke takes some PK time as well But i dont see him as a upgrade over Bear, except size/grit. Only reason id do this deal is to shed cap. But if we did it, it means Bear is on his way out which i dont like.
  10. My biggest potential issue with Severson is that I think that he benefited from being on an incredible team playing a great system I dont think he ends up looking as good on a weaker team I still think we run it back with the group we've got on D for a year. Do not buy out OEL. If he can play like he did in 2021, hes worth 5m, and a top-4 LD, and we'll actually be pretty good. OEL-Hronek for the tough minutes (i expect they'll be better than OEL-Myers, Hronek is better than Myers in every way except girafeness and chaos creation) Hughes-Bear feasting on weaker opponents. Hughes gets 22-23 minutes a night incl. all 1st powerplay unit time, Bear gets 16-17 mins a night. They get most of their 5v5 time in offensive zone starts. Hirose-Myers - they looked good together at the end of the season Then the following year hopefully Filip Johansson can graduate to 3rd pairing RD role. If OEL didn't bounce back, THEN we buy him out and use the combined Myers + OEL money to grab a really solid top-4 option.
  11. Hronek deal was a great deal Bo + 2nd for Hronek + Beauvillier + Raty + 4th Nobody can look at that objectively after seeing Bo's performance and say it was a bad deal Moving out Bo and getting a top-4 RHD would already have been a really good trade The fact that we got Raty and Beauvillier out of it is the icing on the cake
  12. Don’t think Bear would be on the ice for 20+ minutes though Hughes and Bear would get 16-17 5v5 minutes, then Hughes gets 5-6 mins powerplay time
  13. I’m hoping OEL finds his defensive form. If he does, the pairing I want is OEL-Hronek and then turn Hughes-Bear loose on weaker opponents
  14. Dvorsky majorly overhyped Same with Sale Avoid both pls
  15. The big question I always have though when you get players from really good teams is: how much of their sparkly analytics was them vs how much of it was the crew that surrounded them similar situation to goal scorers on freewheeling teams (Bo on our team) and try to bring them onto more responsible teams with proper systems (New York) I can’t say I watched Severson enough to know if he’s the real deal or if he looks better because of his team
  16. @PhillipBlunt building off your idea here for a second. A few questions. Not criticisms (I don’t believe in shooting ideas down- there ARE no bad ideas when brainstorming) what would we feed the bear could we get one for league minimum? where does it go in the off-season are we concerned about hibernation season coinciding with hockey season? Any concern re: sluggish foot speed? if the bear falls asleep through multiple games could we LTIR it for narcolepsy? And would we get a replacement bear, or just let it hibernate until playoff season?
  17. Hmm the logic is irrefutable tbh Park the bear in front of demko, nobody’s getting anywhere near the net I am with you let it never be said that eeeergh cannot change his mind when presented with facts
  18. Walking away from Bear would be a big mistake imo. Hughes and OEL were both worse with Schenn/Myers respectively, and better with Bear One of the best deals that Allvin and the hairless compadres pulled off was getting Bear for peanuts from a stacked Carolina team
  19. What was the issue with Bear other than the size? Both OEL and Hughes were far better with Bear than they were with their usual partners. Bear is also built like a fridge and isn't exactly a soft player. In my eyes he kind of solidified the belief that hes a strong choice for a 2nd pairing.
  20. u know some people dont think im serious but loui eriksson is possibly the one man who saved this franchise, and city (maybe even the world?) look where we were before we signed him and look where we are now loui is a testament to what you can accomplish with 6 million dollars and 6 years note this quote from GMJB "We were looking to add scoring to this group [for 2016-17] and Loui is a player that scored 30 goals in the League last year," general manager Jim Benning told the Canucks website. "We feel he's a real versatile player, can play left wing or right wing. He's a first-line power-play guy and he can kill penalties. We think he's a good all-around player and there's a fit there with the Sedins. We just think that at the end of the day he was the best fit for our club." l think its safe to say, mission accomplished. no empty net shall go unfilled ever again my only regret is that he was sent off to play in that godforsaken desert for a year. Did anyone bother to look at his preseason stats (and lets face it, thats the only part of the year that matters) Thats a 61.5 goal pace. Gretzky played for nearly 1500 games, equivalent to 18 x 82 game seasons. If we extrapolate Loui's preseason goal pace over the same number of games Gretzky played, that would give the king 1107 goals, which would make him the HIGHEST SCORING FORWARD IN NHL HISTORY. Gretzky couldn't even break 1000 goals. Simply laughable to compare the two players. @Coconuts
  21. 6 million x 6 million baby a KINGS ransom the REGAL special a deal worthy of his highness long live the king
  22. Happy to see Dvorsky out of the top 20, I think he’s the most overrated prospect of the draft
  23. Yep. A guy you need to take with a late 1st rounder, not #11
  24. Overall agree with the perspective but I’d say since we’re not looking to be a contender for a couple years, let’s add in the size when some of our current contracts expire. D-Petey is looking legit, and he’s big and physical. Will probably play for us in a couple years. Raty is big as well. if they are gonna make a move on D to get some size, I’d be ok with Gavrikov in UFA. But Idk about getting another top-4 LD shoving OEL to the 3rd pairing.
  25. OEL-Hronek kinda works though - OEL is big and plays big. Throws some massive hits when needed. hughes-bear should be getting mostly o-zone starts to feast on weaker competition bottom pair we can load with size and grit
