  1. I guess its chicken-egg, but i dont think the roster is anywhere near as bad as those folks say it is. Look at the 06 team AV had - it was top heavy with an extremely thin Defense. Bieksa, Salo, Ohlund, Mitchell were our only real Defensemen, and thats weaker than the defense group we had in 05. Yet in 06 our goals against dropped dramatically, probably because of the system AV coached the team to play. Our group this year is far better than AV had in his first year: OEL, Hughes, Hamonic, Myers, Poolman, with Burroughs and Schenn as #6's is solid on paper.
  2. Completely agree with you. Our roster is really good. Guaranteed - you take any of these guys that are "playing bad", send them to any other market and they'll shine. Just look at the list of players we let go that are outperforming what they did in vancouver: - Schmidt - Tanev - Markstrom - Edler - Boyd - Vesey
  3. I doubt ownership rides this the rest of the season. Green probably has 10 games left max to fix this. Every season we miss the playoffs is tens of millions of dollars lost. They're not gonna lose that 10m+ again without trying the obvious.
  4. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-travis-green-new-contract "well regarded around the nhl" https://www.si.com/hockey/news/five-nhl-coaches-on-the-hotseat-and-five-ready-for-work "Green is well respected around the league" There are a few others I remember reading too, and when the coaching discussions were happening before his contract was given, all the hockey pundits were praising Green on tv. I do feel like nobody wants to criticize a coach for being bad. Much easier to criticize players. Even when the track record speaks for itself.
  5. which igor? nvm any guy named igor will be fine. i like this plan.
  6. Honestly willing to take anyone as long as they can start tomorrow afternoon.
  7. Lol remember Travis Boyd? Guy has 3 points in 6 games (2 goals, 1 assist) Jimmy Vesey has 3 goals in 12 games. 20 goal season pace lmao. Seems every player (except the ones we sent to Arizona) is thriving after they leave us.
  8. Yeah my mind is blown b/c ive never worked at a place where someone underperforming that drastically for that long has remained employed.
  9. It feels like every article I read, Travis Green is noted as "well respected" around the league as a coach. I just looked up his 4 year AHL record - 2/4 years his team missed the playoffs, 1/4 year his team lost in round 1, and 1/4 year they lost in the finals. In 4 NHL seasons, 3/4 seasons his team missed the playoffs, and 1/4 year they lost in round 3. Thats 5/8 seasons he coached, his team missed the playoffs. Here's a quick comparison to Bruce Boudreau: 8/8 AHL seasons, his team made the playoffs 10/12 NHL seasons, his team made the playoffs Thats 2/20 seasons, his team missed the playoffs. How tf does Boudreau not have a job, while Green got a 2 year extension?????
  10. I am actually genuinely curious to find out what happens in practices. Ive never seen one before. I imagine its a special kind of tragic.
  11. Please for gods sake let me wake up to an announcement that Green has been fired and a bread box has been hired to coach.
  12. No chance, they brought me into Arizona as a "tank for first overall pick" specialist
  13. One of my favorite games so far. Refs stole the game and gave it to the ducks, but w/e.
  14. Dang I didn't know that. I mean.. Gillis did add some great offensive pieces in Samuelsson and Ehrhoff, and defensive pieces in Mahotra and Hamhuis to make that possible.
  15. Tbh I think there's probably quite a few current assistant coaches that would meet that criteria. I doubt itd be possible to hire them though while they're in the middle of their contracts, so if we want a new coach, its probably from Seattles leftovers.. We could of course go the AHL route again but god please no... unless there's another Vigneault out there.
  16. You know, something else I was thinking about.. Vigneault stepped into a team that had missed the playoffs & gave up a ton of goals under Crawford, and built a system that made the Canucks one of the best defensive teams in the league. He also kept adapting his system and methods and we got progressively better throughout his years. He also stepped into a pretty terrible Flyers team that missed the playoffs, and took them to round 3 the first year he coached. I don't remember Vigneault whining about how bad his players were on special teams, or defensively, etc. He makes systems that work for the roster he's given, which is what a good coach does. Ugh i miss Vigneault.
  17. In general I agree, but I haven't seen Benning interviews where he's that arrogant (I could be wrong, maybe I just havent seen them). Also I feel like Benning did in fact deliver a great roster this year and even though it took a long time, has basically done his job now. Coaching is the last piece, and Benning's big error was giving Green another contract. My guess is Green piled on the excuses during the off season, said he had an awful roster and if he just got better pieces, the team would start winning. Benning delivered, and now that that excuse has been used up, Green is panicking..
  18. He really does. Itd be different if he was using that arrogance to defend his team, but it seems more and more he wants to throw his guys under the bus. I also like Maurice, but I think the Jets would be crazy to let him go.. I'd be happiest with Boudreau, but Todd Nelson or John Stevens are good assistants who are worth head coaching jobs imo.
  19. That last interview he gave was really ugly. "They have to be better" is a horrendous attitude. His tone was also so defensive, 100% he's insecure about his position and is feeling the heat because he knows hes been given a good roster. He also knows hes been given a way longer leash than most other coaches would get, his tenure has lasted longer than like 25+ other current coaches. Seeing Garlands reaction to the play Jason King drew up last game too... the coaches have 100% lost the players. The reality is Green overestimates his abilities as a coach and its made him unwilling to accept responsibility. Can him.
  20. Dont think losing Edler was - OEL is everything Edler was and more (based on where Edler's play was at last year). Schmidt did amazing in Vegas, is doing amazing in Winnipeg.. almost like he wasn't the problem, but our systems are...
  21. Agreed he had a while and definitely made some mistakes, but there's definitely a price to pay when firing a GM. A new GM would have their own path which would need time to execute, and likely mean significant roster changes. On paper, the roster Benning has put together now is one of the best we've ever had. Sure it took him a long time and mistakes to get here, but we're here now, and might as well see what this team can do with good coaching and systems. If that doesn't help, then sure, scrap Benning but that also likely means a roster revamp and rebuilding.
  22. If you mean clean house as in - fire everyone and trade away our core for picks and start over, I'd say definitely not - our core is pretty great and a championship team could be built off them. If its fire benning and coaches.. I'd also say meh. Benning actually put together a really good roster this year. I think its pretty telling that the new players are doing great, but our old players are struggling. They simply dont buy into Greens system anymore because they know it doesnt work. How deflating must it be to know that you could force turnovers by pressuring on the PK, but Green and Baumer force you to stand there and block shots with your gentlemans region. 3 broken systems that all tie together - Horrendous PK system (just stand still) Horrendous Powerplay (just stand still) Outdated and ineffective overall system (dump and chase)
  23. Only reason I dont like it is I feel like we'd be selling low. We know Petey is obscenely talented, and if we're gonna trade him, it should be when he's putting that talent on full display.. and ideally at the trade deadline to really milk the returns.
