  1. ship them back to the desert and bring back player name and roussel
  2. Agreed, and get it warmed up with like 8 passes just between miller and hughes.
  3. I like it. Next thing we should try is stop drop and roll.
  4. Personally I think they move around a bit too much. Id like to see them set up in the zone, and then just stand very very still in a perfect box. Make sure everyone in the box gets to touch the puck at least twice before thinking about shooting.
  5. Im not saying he did nothing, but you can tell who showed up having put in a massive offseason. Hughes had no rust to shake off, he showed up and immediately played better than he was playing last year. I doubt that was a fluke - it probably took a ton of offseason effort (probably helps that hes also got 2 incredibly skilled siblings also trying to be better). The fact that Petey is rusty means its likely he didnt do as much as others in the offseason. Slipping and falling more than most means he probably spent less time on his skates than most. But I dont think he sat around eating cheeseburgers either. Just probably didnt do as much as guys like Hughes. Even look at Hamonic - was off for even longer than Petey, and showed up looking leaner and sharper than he did last year, right out of the gate.
  6. Tbh i think its a couple things: 1. Petey looked rusty and doesn't look any bigger or smaller than he was before - so his offseason was probably pretty relaxing 2. He's very cerebral and relies on his brain rather than speed or size, so if he's lost confidence, itll really effect his game. Hughes on the other hand looks both faster and way more stable on his skates. I remember last year he was falling down a fair bit, he seems way more balanced this year. I bet he put in a ton of offseason work.
  7. Send green away, but Benning did his job this year. He gave us a far better lineup than we had last year. That OEL/Garland trade was some wizardry. Benning gets a chance to work with a new coach imo. Green and King especially need to go.
  8. Seriously fire Jason King. This powerplay is the absolute worst. There's no way we should be this bad if they were coached competently.
  9. Reaaaally dont think its worth it. In any workplace, a bad coworker can tank a teams performance by destroying morale. If he creates a bad locker room, we're going to feel the pain on the ice too. Id rather make a fair trade to upgrade scoring without taking on that kind of baggage, even if we have to give up more to do it.
  10. Didn't actually hate the game last night - sure we didn't score til the end, but it felt like they were all kinda set free: - Way more carry ins instead of dump & chasing - Lotto line stayed together Maybe with Hamonic back, Green will trust his forwards to be more aggressive. Also thinking our lines just need some time to gel together and figure out where their teammates are going to be.
  11. Dump and chase = we lose the puck on most zone entries or get lousy scoring chances Standing still on the powerplay = predictable plays that take forever to set up and are easy to break up Passive collapsing box on penalty kill = they can spend as long as they want in our zone with no pressure and set up the perfect play Its all just so painful.
  12. In fairness, more than half the D corps is new -> OEL, Poolman, Burroughs, Schenn.. Bottom 6 are doing good work with the dump and chase system - they're fast and physical enough to retrieve pucks and we don't expect them to set up that many scoring chances, so anything that sets up is a pleasant surprise. Plus they dont play as many minutes. Dump and chase gives u a very low chance of setting up a great scoring chance. Its extremely annoying that Green is forcing our top 6 into that mold and I completely understand why they're tuning him out.
  13. Forgot about Ballard. And yeah Hamhuis was better than Hamonic.
  14. I'm not disputing that our Dcore was playing WAY better then (obviously they were). On paper though I don't think there's such a massive difference. OEL changes things for us, big time.
  15. What's kinda wild is this defense is sorta on par with our 2010-2011 d-corps. Hughes > Ehrhoff OEL > Edler (even back when he was playing his best) Hamonic = Hamhuis (lol) Myers < Bieksa (Bieksa was probably a top pairing guy on another team, Myers second pairing) Salo doesn't really have an equivalent, but Poolman makes us better defensively vs Salo had that big slapshot (pretty useless in todays NHL anyway) Then we had Aaron Rome and Andrew Alberts... vs we have Burroughs, Schenn, Rathbone..
  16. This. Green wants him to plant his feet and stand still, take the exact same shot everyone knows is coming because he's been doing it for 3 years. God forbid he tries to do anything creative or make anything happen off the rush.
  17. I hear where you're coming from but I honestly disagree. We have one of the most talented top 6's in the whole league, with plenty of skill on our third line. Lamikko, Bailey, and Highmore are excellent 4th liners who all deserve permanent NHL jobs (and its wild that we have that in spite of all our bottom six injuries). Burroughs has been great for a #5, #6 guy, and Myers has been FAR from a problem. Hes played like the solid top-4 guy that he is. Miller-Petey-Boeser Garland-Horvat-Pearson Hoglander-Dickinson-Podkolzin Highmore-Lamikko-Bailey Sutter, Motte They're not the problem. Its the silly dump and chase system that almost nobody relies on anymore because statistically you end up with way fewer high danger scoring chances than if you carried it in. Dump and chase is for old and slow plugs, not for a high skilled team like ours. And we spend so much time in our own zone because we don't put any pressure on the other team once they gain our zone - we let them set up, cycle, and take as many shots as they like. The system sucks.
  18. Its possible I suppose but given how much of his bad play is related to tripping over his own feet, I think hes just extremely rusty having not played hockey all summer and missing training camp.. But yeah it doesn't help that Green wants him to play a game that's not even remotely suited to his natural talents.
  19. Yeah Boudreau would be my choice too. Choked we missed out on Gallant though when he was available.
  20. There arent many to choose from, but from an article this time last year, here's whos still available (with NHL head coaching experience): Bruce Boudreau Mike Babcock Todd Nelson Dan Bylsma Then there's a bunch of Assistant coaches and AHL coaches....
