  1. Unfortunately ur right... Carter Hart was a special kind of horrendous that night
  2. Not allowed to carry into the zone. They looked great when they did, but Travis wants everyone playing like 4th line plugs and dumping and chasing.
  3. Yeah like this is the part i dont understand. We have a tremendous amount of skill, incl 2 gifted D-men (OEL and Hughes) who can carry it in without losing possession... why on earth are we still dump & chasing?
  4. Too many defensive mistakes from Rathbone tbh, another year in the AHL to get him ready would be best. Would rather see Burroughs stay and us have more options for PK and shutdown. Hughes-Poolman OEL-Hamonic Burroughs-Myers OEL-Hamonic get deployed against top lines, that's a proper shutdown pair.
  5. Nope, but we should trade Jake Virtanen for that really talented 18 year old kid Sam Bennett!
  6. So much talent and skill but system is broken. Option 1: 1 Canuck tries to enter the zone stickhandling through 3 guys, b/c there's nobody to pass to, and obviously ends up losing the puck. Option 2: Dump and chase, and fail to recover it 50% of the time Literally no other team plays this way, I don't get it.
  7. Agreed, Im stoked. Worried though sutter may be gone a while - theres no defined timeline on recovery from long hauler covid symptoms
  8. Agreed - he can create chances for whoever he plays with though too. Motte, Dick, Hogs all have good hands and can finish. All of them also backcheck really hard which is great to see.
  9. They were really good. Highmore is a big surprise to me - the Gaudette trade is looking good for us.
  10. I think this is a good take. He's 100% in his own head right now. Some stuff hes doing just makes no sense - trying to stickhandle through 3 guys into the zone and of course he loses the puck. Given time and some successful practices he'll be back. Our 2nd line clicking as well as it is should also take oppositions top shutdown guys off him for a while.
  11. Idk why everyones so mad. - We won and had a very respectable record for a long road trip - Demko is playing better than his contract suggests he should - Our 2nd line is looking like a 1st line - We're a lot better defensively than last year thanks to OEL (and even with our main shutdown D man out) Now imagine how dominant we're gonna be when EP and BB get going... And when we have Sutter and Motte back.
  12. Pretty sure with these moves they're just gonna go turbo offence and try to outscore our defensive problems. 3 scoring lines, 1 shutdown line. Garland-EP-Boes Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander Chiasson-Miller-Podkolzin Motte-Dickinson-Sutter Highmore, Lammikko
  13. On paper we're one of the best teams in the league right now. Better depth than most. Wouldn't be surprised if we finish the year top 3 in goals scored.
  14. Yeah i think it is. Hes got a lineup he can win with imo. A lot comes down to what he and shaw do with the D though i think,
  15. Its actually wild how good our lineup is this year wtf. Boeser-Petey-Garland Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander Petan-Miller-Podkolzin Chiasson-Dickinson-Di Giusseppe (Motte and Sutter injured) Also had no idea Petan, Chiasson, and Di Giuseppe would play so good. Imagine trying to defend against 3 serious scoring lines lmao. Hughes-Hamonic OEL-Poolman Myers-Schenn *Rathbone, Juolevi Unreal.
  16. Yes, you're absolutely correct. he averaged 2 PK minutes per game for the Jets last year, and was paired with an absolute dumpster fire defensively (Josh Morrissey). Poolman carried that pair defensively - pretty clearly shown in Morrissey's CF% with and without Poolman. People rag on OEL too but he's extremely competent defensively. He played shutdown minutes & main PK responsibilities. OEL is a massive upgrade over Schmidt. Poolman is a better skater and can do as much if not more than Edler did for us on the PK, and Hamonic can do exactly what he did for us last year. OEL, Poolman, Hamonic is a MASSIVE improvement over Edler, Schmidt, Hamonic. Cant believe we got all of that + Garland + a 3rd rounder + salary retained on OEL + dumped all our bad contracts basically for Dylan Guenther lmao. Honestly think this has to be one of the most incredible offseasons in Canucks history.
  17. YET AGAIN JB gets taken advantage of by Tampa Bay. He keeps mortgaging our future to try to "win now", and it never works. I've had enough. Trading away our valuable future considerations for this no name prospect is the last straw. Tired of having a GM that keeps getting fleeced by other GMs in one sided deals.
  18. Yeah you hit the nail on the head - personality and EP being a team player. JE is immensely talented and can do it all himself, but EP's the kind of person you want to win for. The quietness, work ethic, humility - future captain material there.
  19. No need - have Sutter teach Motte and Highmore how to do face offs. If Dickinson gets injured, Sutter moves up to 3c. If Sutter gets injured, move in highmore/motte. JB can fill in important gaps at the trade deadline - if sutter is injured again, put him on ltir and trade for a 4c at that time.
  20. Exactly what I was thinking. Hamonic should do great with OEL - OEL's more defensively responsible than Hughes, + OEL is a good PK'er. OEL + Hamonic can munch up shutdown minutes. Leaves the easier defensive work to Hughes & the pool man.
  21. Hahaha - I watched the Montreal series too! He was really good defensively. The contract is actually not bad, its really really good. Its both tradeable and has a really good buyout structure. If we want to buy him out next year, his cap hit would be 1m, and only 300k/year for the last 2 years of his contract. If on the other hand he ends up playing the shutdown role as well as I think he will, he'll be playing for us at a 1m/year discount or so for 3 years. Thats the advantage of the 4 year deal - potentially a great discount, and if he's unexpectedly awful, minimal cap implications.
