  1. Yeah and at the very least, Guenther is not anywhere near being ready for the NHL. He wasn't going to come in and help us for at least a couple years. Wow I didn't know that about Garland. Good for him. Hopefully he can retire with us haha. Me too. This year should be incredibly exciting to watch.
  2. Thats the thing though - they're giving away a guaranteed top 6 for a guy who might become a top 6. Plenty of guys drafted in the 1st round end up being busts. I remember watching Gilbert Brule play for the Giants and tearing up the WHL thinking he'd absolutely light up the NHL, and nope. I'm thinking both OEL and Garland expressed a desire to leave, and Garland's RFA status forced their hand. Arizona likely didn't get screwed (lets see what happened with Guenther) but ultimately I think we made out like bandits.
  3. Agreed. Big pieces were drafted. Bad contracts gone. We've got some guys playing better than their contract values (Horvat, Boeser, Miller, Hoglander, Demko). Now's the time to compete, and fill out the supporting cast via trade and free agency. Last thing we need: proper shutdown D man, and we're all set for an incredible year. OEL with someone like Savard for the 1st PK unit.
  4. Honestly a really good take. This was the year to trade the 1st rounder - I expect a lot of busts in the 1st round, due to lack of playing time and limited scouting opportunities. He should focus on recovering picks in next year's draft and 2023. I'm pretty surprised this deal got done. Guenther for Garland? GREAT deal for us. Beagle, Roussel, LE, 2nd rounder, 3rd rounder, bucket of chicken for OEL? With Salary retained? Incredible deal for us. Really not sure how Arizona benefits from this, unless Garland was not going to want to sign with them. Seems like a pretty bad deal to trade away a great top 6 forward for Dylan Guenther (potentially a top 6 but who knows)
  5. Haha yeah I guess podz would qualify. Hogs is a roster player for us so I'd say hes prob valued at a bit more than a top tier prospect, but thats just my opinion So realistically the fair deal would be: Podz + 9th OA for Reinhardt.. Rather take our chances in the draft and have a great player that can produce for us on an ELC in a couple years time.
  6. Exactly right. They wouldn't do the deal. He's worth more than that. I'd say assets that value at 2x 1st round picks. So a 1st rounder + a top tier prospect (I don't think we necessarily have one of those right now).
  7. Damn they really went for youth + value. No proven starter though. I guess it kinda makes sense - no team was gonna expose their #1 (except Montreal apparently), so all they could do was choose between #2s. Maybe they draft and develop their own franchise goaltender too, they've got some options in this draft
  8. Id do that deal tbh. Yeah OELs last 2 years is gonna look pretty bad on our books, but our window to compete is within the next 2-3 years. Do they have the cap room to take Eriksson too though?
  9. This 1000%. According to Dallas fans, we just need to keep pucks away from his face and we'll be all set
  10. Definitely. Coaching from Malhotra got Sutters face off percentage way up. I actually love this trade. Even if he can't move any salary out and we have to wait til next year for the big splash, I'm really happy he went with someone young, with lots of upside, and got it done below market value. There's some merit to waiting til next year too for the big move - whomever we draft this year might be ready to step in on an ELC next year. Podz and Hogs will be a year older and ready to play bigger roles. Podz could bump Pearson off the 2nd line by then. Imagine having all that cap room to put into our Defense. We'd go from one of the worst to the absolute best D corps overnight lol.
  11. Idk - if he ends up getting Seattle to take Holtby, and makes a Schmidt trade happen, we'll see the big changes we need without giving up many assets - the UFA pool this year is pretty stacked. Replaces Schmidt with a proper shutdown D man (like Oleksiak - and he'll come in for less than Schmidt), and have 4-5m to spend on a top 6. If Edler's going to walk too, he's going to need 2 more D men that can play on the PK. Our D is gonna be less offensively capable, so getting either another top 6, or someone on the third line who can provide some offense is gonna be necessary. Hughes-Oleksiak Shutdown guy-Myers Rathbone-Shutdown guy
  12. Yup this is a big win. We got our 3C who can (hopefully) stay healthy and play shutdown minutes. Now go upgrade our D and get us another top 6 winger without losing our 1st round pick and you're redeemed JB.
  13. Me too, I really like him. He gives me the young alex edler vibes.
  14. Yeah, all fair points. Losing cap would be a win for us - I'd be happy if we signed Oleksiak with some of that cap space.
  15. I don't think its quite enough, and DiPietro is prob not a fit for them considering Shesterkin's age. Lind didn't do enough to be worth it for them imo. Gadjovich probably of interest. Schneider + 15th OA for 9th OA + Schmidt + Gadjovich Fair deal, would be really sad to let Gadjovich go though. He probably becomes something special. Foot speed is the easiest thing to improve, and he's got great hands. Would much rather we draft our own D-man prospects instead of dropping draft spots & giving up great prospects.
  16. Yeah I agree. Plus, the defensive improvement can be made by moving Schmidt, and bringing in another stay at home guy like Oleksiak. Hughes, Myers, Edler, Hamonic, Oleksiak, Rathbone. Juolevi gets another year to play somewhat sheltered minutes, then takes over for Edler. Re-signing Hamonic and Edler is the right move, both will give us better value than replacing them.
  17. I wouldn't, no. Rather keep Petey. My price for Petey would be like 3 1st rounders + a prospect lol. He's a bonafide 1st line center that hasn't reached his ceiling yet, anything less than that we're getting robbed imo.
  18. Probably but I think getting Podz combination of goal scoring + ferocity is a bigger win. Theres always a couple pure goal scorers in the draft, and some drop way down if they're small like Caufield. I'd love to get Eklund (goal scorer, already playing in a mens league, and responsible two-way player) but if we ended up getting Guenther I'd be pretty stoked too. Tbh I think I'm gonna be happy to matter who we pick lol, theres so many good choices in the top 10.
  19. YES I completely agree. Please please please Eklund.
