YES Please. Make it happen.

Idk why everyone's so quick to get rid of Juolevi. He had 2 really good seasons in the AHL playing most of it injured, and did not look out of place in 20+ games with us. He's a couple years behind his age group b/c of the injuries, and is about to have 2 years of injury free skill development. Pretty dang sure he can become a very capable top 4 guy, based on where he's at now.

[proposal] Roland Mckeown to Vancouver
eeeeergh replied to Patel Bure's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Pass on the chicken. Will take a jar of pickles though! -
Mayfield is a great target - extremely cost controlled asset, and I don't think NYI can protect him. Will have to likely give up a 2nd for him though, or a 2nd + a bit more just because of the value of his contract. Would love to see us grab him & pick up Oleksiak from UFA pool, and let Hamonic walk. Lots of size and defensive responsibility there Hughes-Oleksiak Schmidt-Mayfield Edler-Myers *Rathbone, Juolevi
-
Eklund is the dream. I doubt he falls to us though, since he's both so good and such a safe pick. Guenther could fall - and I'd love if we take him. Don't really want Johnson, or a defenseman, as D men take so long to develop, and with Rathbone, Juolevi, and Woo coming up, there won't be much room. We badly need more scoring punch so we can roll 3 good lines. A big stay at home d-man can be filled through UFA.

Sooo... Tampa, Buffalo, Arizona don't do the deals (underpayment from us) If Benning gave away Rathbone and 2x 1sts for Seth Jones I'd have no explanation other than that he's actually been Columbus' GM this whole time, we just didn't notice. Rathbone is gonna play like a 5m/year d-man for 900k/year for 2 out of the next 3 years. That puts him in untouchable territory in my book. No way we trade away both 1sts, especially if we have a goal of competing 2 years from now. With this years 1st, Benning can draft a player that'll be on our Roster the following year (maybe even this year if he nabs McTavish or Eklund). So unless you're getting back an extremely cost controlled immediate difference maker, pretty sure our 1st round pick for this year is also untouchable. I don't think we need such a big overhaul of our D-corps. We have good pieces, we just need some size and defensive responsibility - both of those are readily available in the UFA market, we don't need to trade assets for them. - Oleksiak - Savard - Larsson and several others. Hughes-Oleksiak Schmidt-Hamonic Edler-Myers *Juolevi, Rathbone Edler reportedly wants to come back, and if he signs a cheap enough deal, we could nab a proper partner for Hughes.
-
Have to do this deal if they agree, no question. I don't think they go for it though. Taking on Loui's cap is probably worth a 1st rounder at this point given how tight most teams are. Give them a quality prospect like Juolevi too and they go for it. I'd definitely be interested in making a trade to improve the top 6, b/c everything we need to improve the D corps is available through free agency: Savard, Larsson, etc. I especially like this b/c we can create another scoring line. Put Miller down in the 3C position, and put Podkolzin on the wing. Can pick up a 3rd line winger who can score, someone like Jaden Schwartz. Bring back Edler for 1 more year on a cheap deal. Meier-Petey-Boeser Hogs-Horvat-Pearson Pods-Miller-Schwartz Motte-Beagle-Roussel Hughes-Savard Schmidt-Hamonic Edler-Myers *Rathbone

I want Greenway, but the cost will be a 1st rounder straight for him, bare minimum. He's a big playmaking power forward that put up great numbers and is on a contract priced at half his production. And I'd make the deal - 1st for him. No question.

Proposals (Van-Minnesota) (Van-NYI) (Van-Nashville)
eeeeergh replied to eeeeergh's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Fair play on Mayfield - hes not young. But Trenin and Greenway are. It'd take a 2nd to get Mayfield because of the unbelievably good contract he's on. Greenway is most definitely worth a top 10 pick. He's a core player. Look at the numbers he put up on a shutdown line - if you watch the way he plays, he's undoubtedly a top 6 winger. He's also big (6'6") and plays outstanding defense. Considering the contract he's on, the only issue I think that happens is Minnesota is going to get more for him than a single 1st rounder. He and Trenin are both 24 years old. Look at what Greenway is good at and how it can fit with Boeser and Petey - He's a playmaker, he's massive, and he plays great defense. Tell me a big guy that can feed Boeser and Petey's shots is not exactly what they need! None of the 3 are franchise players, but together, Greenway, Trenin, and Mayfield bolster the defensive side of our game in a big way, and Greenway lets us build out a proper 3rd line. And they do it for a collective cap hit of... 5.2m dollars. If there are better guys available on contracts we can actually afford, at teams that are forced at gunpoint by the expansion draft to trade them away, I'm all ears! -
Proposals (Van-Minnesota) (Van-NYI) (Van-Nashville)
eeeeergh replied to eeeeergh's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Agreed that NYI won't want to lose Mayfield, but they have Pelech, Pulock, and Leddy. Only way for them to keep all 4 would be to take the unfavorable option of protecting 8 skaters and losing extra forwards. Doubtful they'd do that, since they have too many forwards to protect. NYI is losing Mayfield to someone... guaranteed -

If you're getting young guys in return, why not? -
Since Benning wants to be aggressive, my thesis is that the Expansion draft will create opportunities for the Canucks to get outsized returns for their draft picks. Do we want to mortgage the future? Probably not. But if we strategically go after young players that are going to be lost in the ED... we have a good shot at actually improving our future by trading away picks. A lack of playtime this past year creates risks in drafting players, based on a lack of available data compared to previous drafts. Additionally, the expansion draft inflates the value of picks - teams that are destined to lose 1 good player can now get something valuable in return. Hence the opportunity for arbitrage. The Canucks are in a bad situation with their cap this year, so they'll have to be precise in addressing certain needs. Overall, I'm looking for upgrades to the top 6, third line, and the d-corps. This starts with the assumption that Miller will be moved to the 3C position. Without further ado.... To Min: 2021 1st Round Pick To Van: Jordan Greenway Why does Vancouver do this? Greenway is a young, defensively responsible, playmaking top 6 with 1 year left on his 2.1m deal. We'll be able to afford keeping him, due to all of the dead money falling off at the end of next year. Why does Minnesota do this? They're going to lose Greenway, Dumba, or someone better to Seattle. Trading Greenway lets them protect Dumba, and they get a 1st rounder out of the deal. To New York Islanders: 2021 2nd Round Pick, Kole Lind To Vancouver: Scott Mayfield Why does Vancouver do this? Scott Mayfield is a big RHD that can kill penalties and play shutdown minutes, while protecting little huggy bear. Most importantly, he's cost controlled at only 1.45m per year for 2 more years. Why does New York do this? If they want to use the maximum number of protection slots, they can only protect 3 d-men, which are presumably Pulock, Pelech, and Leddy. They also get a solid prospect and a pick. To Van: Yakov Trenin To Nashville: Jonah Gadjovich, 3rd round Pick Why does Vancouver do this? Yakov Trenin plays an extremely defensively responsible game (and again, at a very cap controlled 725k). We badly need players like this to fill out out bottom 6. Most importantly, he is a winger but naturally a center, and can take over the 4C position if Beagle/Sutter gets injured again. Why does Nashville do this? They're need prospects that can add some offense and excitement, not more defensive specialists. Lastly, assuming we are able to max out our buyouts (Eriksson, Holtby, etc.), that should leave us plenty of $ to make a splash in the UFA market. My vote goes to snagging Kyle Palmieri on a relatively short term deal (max 3 years, 4.5m due to age). If Beagle is good to go next year, we play him, otherwise we resign Sutter to a short term cheap deal. Tbh I also think we should resign Edler to a 1 year cheap deal and play Rathbone/Juolevi strategically. Ease them into their future roles with the team, have them as solid replacements to step in for injuries, and play them against the right teams to facilitate their development into the roles we want them to fill. Our lineup next year: Greenway-Pettersson-Boeser Hogs-Horvat-Pearson Palmieri-Miller-Podkolzin Motte-Beagle-Trenin Highmore Hughes-Mayfield Edler-Myers Hamonic-Schmidt *Rathbone, Juolevi Demko DiPietro

[Signing] Canucks sign Karel Plasek
eeeeergh replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Literally the best news I've heard since signing Jayce Hawryluk! -
Lind and a 2nd for Ristolainen? More like: Juolevi and a 1st for them to consider it.
-
Precisely. Nucks can also find top 6 scoring in the draft if they want to add a winger there, and it'll have the added benefit of being an ELC for 3 years. These offensive specialists (Boeser, Caufield, Pettersson, etc.) seem able to contribute in year 1 or year 2, whereas grabbing someone for the D corps often requires a few years of development. If JB is really planning on contending in 2022-2023, he's got to be thinking of fixing the biggest problem: the defensive side. I really think a #1 D-man, and a proper 3C who can stay healthy all year is a gamechanger. Hopefully we keep Sutter too at a team friendly deal (he was on pace to score 17-20 goals over a full season), and bump him to the wing for full time duties, and to the center when we need important faceoffs won. These 4 things turn our team into a legit contender imo: - Top 6 winger drafted this year (prolific scorer like Guenther) - #1 shutdown d-man like savard - #3C like Wennberg - Petey, Beagle, Motte, Sutter back from injury Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Hoglander-Bo-2021 pick Podkolzin-Wennberg-Pearson Motte-Beagle-Sutter Savard-Hughes Myers-Juolevi/Hamonic Rathbone-Schmidt
-
I really doubt Edler is back. If he is, it'll be a 1 year, cap friendly deal. Agreed though- need a #1 shutdown d-man, and it'l have to come by trade or Free Agency. Its a bummer we never got to see Schmidt playing on his strong side, but I'm not sure where he fits in if Rathbone is ready for full time duty. Juolevi looks like he can develop into a play it safe, stay at home d-man too. In an ideal world, we have each of our puck moving offensive defenceman with a stay at home guy. Hughes - #1 D Myers - Juolevi Rathbone - Hamonic Then we have lots of options for PK and for shutting down top heavy 1st line dependent teams like Edmonton.
-
Sure thats fine to want a trade, but you do it privately, behind closed doors, and express positivity in public if you're currently under contract. Its not fair to his teammates, the fans, or the organization to be airing his dirty laundry in public. Professionals don't do that. You speak highly about your franchise, and team, even if you don't feel it UNTIL you no longer have obligations to that team. He chose to sign an 8 year contract. He had the option of requesting a shorter term, but he didn't. If he signed a shorter deal, he could be a free agent right now. By airing his dirty laundry in public, he's screwing over Buffalo and it's fans. He becomes a distressed asset, and the return Buffalo gets for him is diminished.
-
I wanted Caufield, Podkolzin was my backup choice. But if we draft a prolific scorer this year like Guenther, then I'll be happy we grabbed Pods, because he strikes me as Hogs 2.0.
-
I mean.. yeah the season sucked but I'm pretty excited about our core. We've got great guys on reasonable to below market contracts. We've got multiple gamebreaker/franchise players just getting started. We've got high level talent that's playing on their ELCs. And we've got a ton of cap room opening up after next season. We're gonna have a good year next year fam, and a great year the season after that. BB - below market value BH - at market value EP - will be signed on a reasonable bridge deal QH - reasonable bridge deal JM - at/below market value Boner, Hogs, Pods, Olli all on cheap ELCs. Good draft position to get an impact player who'll be able to step into our lineup in the next season or two as well. We're gonna have lots of money to upgrade and build around these guys. We were playing AHL'ers for our 3rd and 4th line this year, and a ton of inexperience on Defence.
-
MAF/Lehner aren't options, b/c Vegas is exempt. Freddy Andersen is a UFA this year -so odds of him being taken through the expansion draft are very slim. His numbers are also comparable this year to Holts, and Holts comes with a lower cap hit. Seattle needs to select 3 goalies from the ED i think.
-
Woah you think Miller is gone? Think we could get a better 2nd line winger than him? I like him b/c he can play wing or center. I can see Schmidt going and being replaced with a shutdown partner for Rathbone - Rathbone kind of steps into the role as a puck moving offensive defenceman.
