  1. I’m sorta confused about this why would boesers agent be going to teams to discuss trade proposals? wouldn’t this be something done by PA?
  2. 4x 1st round equivalent assets 2023 1st 2024 1st 2x tier-1 prospects
  3. I don’t know what Ovies minutes were, but Washington is another great example of a team that has 2 top-6 lines loaded with scorers, and 2 checking lines. Their third line is exactly what ours should look like. They’ve got Eller and Johansson that are very good defensively, and Mantha can add a bit of offence on that line too. But look at Garland and Boeser - what situations do you deploy them in? If you want them in scoring situations/ ozone faceoffs, you’re going to be taking away opportunities from Horvat and Miller. The alternative is giving that third “scoring line” very reduced minutes, so Horvat/Petey can play 18-19mins+ per game. We would be better off if we had 2 scoring lines, a checking line would be cheaper, more effective on the Pk, and we would have $ to spend fixing our D.
  4. Says who? That’s how most teams have had success for a long time, Vegas is lined up like that right now and killing it. a third scoring line means less minutes for the Petey and Horvat line, less ozone faceoffs for them, when both lines are capable of playing top line minutes. where we need the help is on the PK, and on D, and money and resources has been spent on the literal opposite of that.
  5. Management deciding to load up on top 6 forwards not only cooked us defensively, but also is tanking the trade value of Garland and Boeser We have 2 extra top6 forwards, we’re playing them in 3/4 line roles and minutes, they’re becoming worthless in trade value Will this nightmare end pls
  6. We only have rumours on what was available but assuming the New York rumor is true; and that he was available for a 1st + a young player and more, sure it didn’t sound appetizing at the time (Miller being 90 point +) but re-signing him really locks us into a contention window that doesn’t seem reasonable. Right player, not even a bad contract - just not right for us. It’s the contract Calgary gave to Huberdeau and Markstrom, sure the back half will hurt, but it’s reasonable for them to expect they’ll get 3-4 years of contention first.
  7. It’d be nice if one or two could but tbh, I think you want your EPs and Bo’s being deployed scoring goals penalty killing is a skill you can find easily in UFA, and from bottom 6 players, it usually goes hand in hand with defensively responsible play. If you have a solid shutdown 3rd line that also has your best penalty killers, you’ve now got a matchup line against teams best players, and your EPs and Bo’s can feast on weaker opposition lines. This was sorta what Malhotra did - be a shutdown 3rd liner, win FOs, kill penalties, let the Sedins feast and be rested to focus on scoring
  8. To his point I think we actually have some really good young pieces we have drafted so probably don’t have to do a total tear down but if our contention window is when Hughes is 26-27, guys like Miller and Horvat will more than likely hurt us rather than help us given their contract sizes and expected performance declines with age
  9. A large part of it in my opinion is the teams total disdain for having expert PKers on the 3rd/4th line, and on the bottom pair Loui Ericsson, jay beagle, Motte, Tanev, edler, stetcher, Dickinson, etc. we’re all very good pkers and I’d argue the only one brought in that somewhat replaces any of them is Mikeheyev “omg why is our penalty kill so bad? Bad coaching?” no it’s that we gave up all our penalty killers and didn’t replace them
  10. Who’s citing total tear downs? They could move older players whose back half contracts will hamstring us, while keeping the likes of Petey, Hughes, Demmer, etc. I thought it was universally understood that re-signing Miller was a commitment to have your contention window within a couple of years, but it’s pretty obvious we do not have the talent or depth to make that happen. Acquiring picks and players between ages 20-22 should have been the move.. and if I remember correctly that was the original plan JR/PA committed to. Miller was extremely moveable as a deadline rental, Boeser and Garland are good players as well that could have/might still fetch good returns. It’s utter nonsense to think we’ll contend without at least another good draft class.
  11. A lot of rearranging the deck chairs on titanic in my opinion. some interesting moves - Bear for a 5th, Filip Johansson for free, Aman for free, Motte out at the deadline for a 4th, hamonic for a 3rd But somewhat negated by nonsense like dumping Dickinson for a 2nd, giving up a 3rd for McDermott, big contract for mikheyev, big ugly contract for Miller, big contract for Boeser they hired a LOT of brainpower to accomplish close to nothing over the past year. we would be signing their praises if they sold stuff off and we had a dozen picks going into 2023 draft. Only move id have kept us acquiring stillman to command the tank and bring us bedard
  12. They messed up by spending to the cap past offseason miller ext + 5m for mikheyev + cornering the market on bottom pair guys you nailed it, there’s opportunity to get guys - contracts that are 1-2m overinflated become essential cap dumps, which means teams with cap space can get great players AND sweeteners in exchange for 0 valuable assets
  13. Management team has had a long time now to complete their assessment and present a cohesive plan for the franchise Too many contradictory things happening “our priority is rebuilding the defense” - early offseason “our defence is good enough if healthy” - end of offseason “we want to get younger” - spoken before re-signing Miller to a win-now contract big problem
  14. Ryan Mcdonagh was cap dumped by TB onto nashville Plays 21 mins a night, pure shutdown defenseman. Yes hes a LHD but proves opportunities to acquire top tier shutdown guys are out there, if one has cap space Hoping JR/PA use the cap space created by demko on IR to go solve the problem theyve been complaining about for months
  15. A willie Mitchell type for Hughes would be ideal schenn is physical but he’s not a top tier shutdown guy
  16. Do we though? We need a defensive specialist that can chew up minutes. They don’t have to be top-2 calibre. we let one of them walk - Tanev we’ve found others in trade/Ufa - willie Mitchell
  17. Patrick Alvin, man of the hour all of the glory, none of the power
  18. Boner is a goner imo. Management not keen on another liability on the left side. Probably goes as part of a deal that brings in a young but more two way defenseman
  19. I like it my only concern is Carlos concussions
  20. Hot take Martin will continue to provide “acceptable” starter level goaltending Demko will go on LTIR Cap will go up a lot next year management will use the lite space this year to make a big move on defence
