  1. I hope you're right. This decline was starting to show up though in his later years in Arizona though. He stopped being able to carry the puck end to end, and started chipping pucks out off the glass, and his footspeed was slowing down- he was starting to get beat more often. Chychrun was getting more minutes than him at the end of OELs arizona career, and the harder matchups. Maybe im overly pessimistic, we'll see. I guess if Karlsson can get a second wind, so can OEL.
  2. Hes great on the powerplay and he's very good on the rush. He's great on faceoffs too. He is somewhat one dimensional though. Yes he's tasked with the hard matchups, but he's no defensive star. He's a goalscorer and play driver, and very valuable in this regard.
  3. So much smoke around this "country club atmosphere" comment originally made. I didn't buy it at first but im starting to really believe it obviously not everyones a problem (i dont think petey and hughes are problems in this regard) but we need a big change that redefines the way they practice and play. youre right to point out there's no cohesion - they miss so many passes, and they're guys that have played together for a long time. but there's also visible signs of laziness - bad forechecking and backchecking, laissez-faire attitude in preseason games, and more. Our of our teams official leaders, Horvat is probably the only one setting a real example. Miller's defensive mistakes combined with unwillingness to get back on defense, and OEL's decline in play are not setting the pace for everyone else.
  4. rotten culture. core needs to be gutted too, new leaders that have higher standards need to be brought in. Bieksa made a point about working harder, wonder what he knows,
  5. cursed by the fact that this management team (and the last one) both decided we didn't need penalty killers anymore.
  6. I know.. our defensive options for the pk are tragic. Remember when we had Tanev, Edler, Stetcher? And we could throw Beagle, empty net bandit, or Roussel up front? those were the good days
  7. I honestly don’t feel like he’s the problem its that they have 2 set plays that don’t involve any movement or creativity. And everyone already knows they’re gonna try one of those two set plays.
  8. yeah if possible - only reason i have him in there is because we suck at faceoffs without him haha
  9. I was gonna say lets try to get Buffalo in the mix too but lets face it they're too good for all of us now
  10. "Hey OEL, better start playing like Karlsson or we're sending you where the sun literally does not shine"
  11. If they can add in a 3rd, we'll give them Poolman and its a deal
  12. Honestly though who do they really want from us? Maybe Demko to replace Varlamov Garland or Miller? They look pretty set at C Definitely don't want any of our defense
  13. Alright OEL, time for you to do your best Erik Karlsson impression, we gotta sell this to Lou
  14. Its that, and we gutted our entire bottom 6 and d-corps of our good penalty killers. Somewhere along the way we just decided that penalty killing wasnt a useful skill in our bottom 6 forwards and our defensemen.
  15. Time for some new penalty kill lines too: Aman-Mikheyev Stillman-Schenn Horvat-Joshua OEL-Bear Please gord anything is better than what they have now
  16. I disagree. He never stopped trying even when things weren't working right. Mentally he was shaken but his ego isn't fragile. Underperforming didn't make him sulk and pout, he just kept working and working until he pushed through it. Thats what need more of.
  17. Very fragile egos on the team. We saw it last year too when we were losing. Petey has some mental fortitude. Outside of him idk.
  18. imagine if we had won it with Loui on the roster Half of the jerseys in rogers arena would have his player name on them god it would have been excellent
  19. Nice opportunities for Bo and Zegras to pad their stats against hilariously feeble defenses
  20. Me too. We're not going to get a 23-24 year old player dramatically outperform his contract. We need guys we draft, and have for 3 years on ELCs who can give us 3-5 million dollars worth of punch for 900k. Otherwise we'll simply drown in mediocrity because of how badly we're overpaying on some existing contracts.
  21. Arizona absolutely livid right now that we're beating them at their own game and not even trying They cant believe it over there
