yea if theyre gonna play this that way and use the space to acquire legitimately excelent players without giving up picks/prospects, in fact, weaponizing the cap space to take picks/prospects from others, im on board with this move -

I really hope this move precedes some talent-poaching from cap strapped teams Gimme Carlo & take Reilly if we have to Get Soucy or Graves in UFA Ill forgive GMPA for this move if our D looks like this next year: Hughes-Carlo Graves-Hronek Reilly-Myers *Wolanin -

would use that pick to draft simashev His KHL contract is a blessing. He gets to play against men and get NHL ready (kuzmenko and others have proved that the competition level is comparable enough). When he comes to Vancouver, hes ready to step into our top-4 immediately, and we'll only have to pay him 900k a year on his ELC. Top-4 defenseman for 900k + 1 year of cost controlled RFA status more than offsets the OEL cap hit for the 4 years -

Good ideas overall but i dont think theyre gonna be parting with Schneider at all. Hes paid league minimum and theyre in a big cap crunch. They have 11 million and have to re-sign Tarasenko, Miller and 7 more roster players. If they plan on re-signing Tarasenko, they 100% have to move salary out this offseason. They wont be moving Chytil as they just signed him. I think theyre gonna be trying very hard to move Goodrow. Hes on a bad contract, let them down in a major way. They'll need to pay big to unload him, I think we should take advantage. Even if hes overpaid, we need a 4C whos a very effective penalty killer and shotblocker. He had a bad year on faceoffs, but for his career hes above 50%. To Vancouver: Goodrow 2023 1st To NYR: Future Considerations Or we go after Boston, theyre in the same situation NY is in To Van: Carlo Reilly (3 million in dead cap for them, serviceable bottom pair guy for us) To Boston: 2023 3rd round pick Then sign Soucy Hughes-Carlo Soucy-Hronek Reilly-Myers -

I’m not saying he’s the 8.5 million dollar defenseman he was at the age of 25 but he was definitely not useless. He held his own as a 2nd pair LD, and when he was given a competent partner (Bear) he could handle tough matchups and showed fine. He was about 2m overpaid which is why they ended up doing this buyout. they’re banking on being able to go out there and get a top-4 LD at a discounted rate relative to performance also to answer your question directly: OELs body took an absolute hammering in Arizona, guy was repeatedly injured b/c of his physical play -

Wdym? He was net positive In his first year with us despite taking the hard matchups and more defensive zone starts than offensive This past season where he supposedly stunk it up, he played in front of a truly horrific save percentage The numbers paint a picture of a guy who got let down by a bad partner and terrible goaltending Incidentally he was also net positive when partnered with Bear instead of Myers -

@AnthonyG worked up the numbers, OEL was fine, was let down by goaltending and Myers -

OELs numbers improved dramatically when paired with anyone except Myers 100% guarantee he’s gonna play like a 4m dollar defenseman wherever he signs next -

0 chance we run it back with the same crew now. If they were gonna do that, they would have waited to see if OEL would rebound. they’re gonna make some massive moves one more contract is being shipped out and then they’ll use the 18m on 2x top-4 defensemen, a high end 3C, and a new backup goaltender -

Why would you want to stunt his development by giving him 15-20 games when he could be playing 60 games in Abbotsford if we want him to be our starter one day he needs to play 60 games this season and probably next season again until he definitively proves he’s too good for the AHL again exactly like Dustin wolf -

My biggest thing is they can’t stop now and replace him with a 5m defenseman and a 3m dollar 3C. If that’s all they do, we go absolutely nowhere Half measure and handicaps us bigly They need to churn out more salary and finish the “major surgery”. 2x more top-4 dedenseman and a 3C, along with a bottom-6 winger that can kill penalties + a backup goalie that can win us a few games at minimum they’ll need another 5-8 million -

It’s true if one team starts winning games 86-0 and doesn’t lose a single game in regulation, hockey becomes kind of boring -

Boston needs to unload cap so I like the idea of taking Reilly off their hands + grabbing Carlo in the process indont think we can send cap back their way though -

I think if he wasn’t hampered by injury he could probably be as good defensively as he was other defensemen like edler show us that it’s the offense that disappears first, defensmen transition to shutdown type guys and remain useful in that capacity well into their mid 30s and that’s what OEL was showing in his 1st year with us it’s too bad he was saddled by Myers, if he spent the whole season with Bear and with some better luck while he was on the ice (no terrible goaltending$l) i feel like it woulda been a different outcome -

He was definitely nowhere near that bad last year Analytically and statistically his numbers were punished by terrible goaltending and by Myers when separated from Myers he was good, and paired with everyone else he was fine myers was the much bigger provlem -
