  1. I think the owner always nag about making the playoffs to his GMs. But he does let them make their own decisions and probably need to ask for approval to make a big trade/signing. So I think OEL was Benning's own choice.
  2. No. Myers is 6million. 2nd rounder to move 4 milliong of cap of a serviceable player sounds about right and trades have been like that for the last 3-4 years. Those CDC fans dreaming of moving cap for nothing is just... dreaming.
  3. what.. are.. you talking about? The plan is to sign both? The cap doesn't exist? If the plan is to sign both, then this management is grossly incompetent. Instead of signing the very management Bo Horvat first who only had 52 points last season. They went ahead to tie their own hands down and get the 99 pointer Miller done first?? You think a 52 points Horvat would turn down a contract like 7million x8 years last summer? He had 19 goals on pace for 57 points the year before too.. More likely what happened was management dropped the ball on the Miller trade. Fretted, got nervous when they thought Miller may just walk as a UFA. And when Miller suddenly softens and offer a discount, 8million x 7 years, they salivated, jumped all over it and got it done. And I like how you use chic terms management uses. "Major surgery?" lol. They invent these terms to get by press conferences... And we are sheepishly worshipping it and repeating it? Just like Benning's "2 year plan" after our crappy 2020 season? Hey Benning, what happened to that 2 year plan? Our current and previous management never had solid plans. They just take it step by step, and try to retool on the fly to get us competitive. Wants to make the playoffs every year.
  4. If the pick lands top 12, i'm pretty sure Islanders will keep the pick. Meaning we'd really hope Islanders really stink it up in 2024.
  5. Unforunate to hear of the illnesses. But this is the same guy throwing a fit over the Blackhawk's direction because he thinks hes still a 1st line primetime player. Hasn't been able to play 82 games a season for the last few years already, but selfishly stops the organization from rebuilding...? Okay..
  6. Stillman needs to take over first pairing to increase our chances of winning..... The lottery pick.
  7. Wow huge payment for an underperforming O'Reilly rental. Dubas is really going all in before he gets fired (no ill meaning, it's the truth). Minnesota must be Leafs fans.. taking salary for a 4th...
  8. lol... when SJS went and trade that haul for Karlsson. They were taken years back. Went from being a playoff team to a team that doesn't even know what it is doing, probably won't see the playoffs again in the next 5 years and a team that had to dump Brent Burns for next to nothing. NEVER touch these aged stars on retirement contracts, not even with a 10 feet stick. A lesson we are seeing unfold with OEL and will become apparent with Miller in 2-3 years. I guess the Oilers are in a special place though. Sitting on prime McDavid/Draisaitl, it is now or never for them.
  9. Playing Stillman for 22 minutes.. Tocchet "gets it" heheh. We're now sitting on a top 5 pick. Am I sure glad Benning didn't trade our 2023 1st away.
  10. 0.906 in the AHL is most likely better than the way Martin's been playing. Not joking.
  11. Schenn's great. But any team trading for Schenn is playing him 3RD at best. A 3RD rental is not worth a 2nd. That's how I view it.
  12. Why would you be shocked? People on here’s been calling Schenn to return a 2nd.. isnt that more shocking relatively? At this point.. don’t move Schenn.. the guy’s having a child.
  13. Someone was saying Petterson is a Selke candidate just a few months ago heh... Letting in the most goals in the modern era and our 1st line center is Selke. ha...hah...
  14. Because if you act like cheapskates, you also get cheapskates results. Not everything free is good, contrarily to the simple mind. Rooster space has value, the team's reputation has value, team chemistry has value. If you claim a waiver, that's one less opportunity for someone already in your system for more ice time. Why not develop quality from within your own system instead of being cheapskates and looking for free stuff outside?
  15. ? What's so weird? I've seen quite a few NHL people trying to use equivalents in the last couple of years already. Seems to be an effort to quantify a trade, make them comparables apples to apples. Which is a semi-good thing. Saying Horvat went for 3 1sts makes Allvin looks very good. As famous as Eichel is, he only went for equuivalent of 3x1sts and a 2nd. Eichel: Krebbs (1st), Tuch (at the time, 1st, now stock has risen), an actual 1st, and a 2nd. (Although Buffalo gave a 3rd back to Vegas) Horvat: Beauvillier (1st or somewhat close), Raty (1st or somewhat close), 2023 (Better than most 1sts you traditionally get at TDLs, so this is a 1st plus) As for the Chyrchun trade, your worries is not misplaced. But with so many bidders for Chyrchun and JR/Alvin will probably be on the hotseat if they made a risky bet. I'd say the chances of this happening is super low.
  16. think deeper. No GM's going to trade you Bedard and risk possibly being called the stupidest GM in the century. If any GM trades away Bedard and Bedard goes on to become the next Crosby on the other team. Bam. 10 out of 10 GMs will just go with the flow and draft Bedard. This is why you are asking for the impossible.
  17. errr yeah. Martin played 6 games last season. Big F up by management and fans to think Martin can back elevate to a NHL backup that plays 30 games. Let alone taking over a starter job. The cost was the whole season this year. A mistake someone with JR's experience shouldn't be making. He kept bashing Boudreau for not having a system - not bailing out his mistake of penciling in Martin as backup. Because he is used to being bailed out with a team anchored by Crosby and Malkin. New coach's been trying to identify what's the problem with this team. Notice how Delia's getting all these starts. He's identifying Martin as one of the problems.
  18. You are dreaming. Nothing's going to move the 1OA. People's been saying Bedard will be as transformation as Crosby for Pittsburgh for a while now.
  19. Hmmm.. I haven't been watching games.. But is Kuzmenko is this coach's doghouse or something? Taken off the Pettersson line, 12 minutes a game. Beauvillier and Boeser on PP1 over Kuzmenko??? Like seriously? Is the coach playing favorites because Kuzmenko is clearly the better player. The dude just took a huge discount to sign 2 years with us. And we repay him by demoting him and giving more time to shiny new toy?? (cough Beauvillier).
  20. Horvat was between good and great. But we need more drivers on this team. Horvat didn't drive us very far. Sorry.
  21. Poor Vegas... Even when you want to make a proposal to rip them off, they don't even have much to give lol.
  22. Well.. The Horvat trade was decently ok. Got us a young top 9 forward, 1 of Islander's best prospects, and the highest 2023 pick we can possibly get(Emphasize on 2023, because every team out there is trying to hold onto their 1st rounder this year). So I really don't get why fans or the media criticize so much. It's not perfect, and won't please everyone, but it's not a bad trade. The timing was also great. Every year, the trades with the biggest hauls were always the 1st few trades. Especially with this year like 80% of the league is at cap limit, pulling the trade early is just damn smart. (Probably learned the lesson from last year's Miller failure though).
  23. I like how Raty is not prioritized over Pod and Hoglander. Hopefully didn't speak too soon.
