Absolutely funny reporting.
Went from Friedman "thinks" Vancouver could call about Severson, and he "thinks" Severson would be happy to play for Vancouver...
to
Vancouver is pursuing Severson. Severson wants to play here too.

I wonder if they will go for the often proposed deal centered around JT + Silovs/Demko for 3rd OA. Not sure if the cap would work or not. If I'm CBJ I probably wouldnt do it but they would be competitive. It's worth PA making the call imo.
I think all the moves they are making now is banking on the 3rd OA to be a stud. And then they'll make a push with Gaudreau, Jenner, Laine, the 3rd OA, Johnson, Sillinger, Werenski, Provorov, Severson, Boqvist. And Coach Babcock. It is not a bad bet. They are sick of being bad lol.

lol why did they have to sign and trade... hard to imagine anyone paying Severson more than 6.25mil AAV.

They are getting more and more beat up all the time. Obviously Tkachuk, but Gudas, Ekblad and Montour and the rest of the D are also not looking as sprightly as they were a couple series ago.
Tkachuk was taught a lesson tonight:
- If you are going to act like a jacka$$, taking cheapshots, shooting your mouth and taking runs at everyone on the ice, and the other team is made up of big tough Canadian boys, then be very careful to keep your head up... cause you will pay big time if you don't. I said that two games ago, and I was proven right tonight.
I have every respect for a lot of the Panther's team... Barkov, Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Cousins, Duclair... are all standup hard working players. But Tkachuk and Bennett are PoS's and don't deserve to drink from Lord Stanley's Cup.
Not sure why you hate Tkachuk so much. Momentum is obviously not with Florida and he is desperately trying to change that. Being a pest, agitating the other team is part of his game. I think it is somewhat commendable he is willing to do whatever it takes to win.

I'd give Benning a 7/10. Inexperienced in a few areas. Also decent in a few areas. The most glaring is that guy doesn't seem to have a vision or blueprint. Trying to make the playoffs every season while hoping your core pieces grow into cup contenders is not good enough. Boeser, when he still had very good value, should have been traded 3-4 years in when it was apparent he was not core material. Pro scouting was pretty bad. Contract negotating got better in his latter years. So some good some bad.

Wouldn't touch Dubois with a 10 feet pole - even if he was a 90 point player which he isn't. Toxic. Any team that has gotten him is put in a bad spot, that speaks for itself. If he thinks he can dictate which 1 team out of the 32 he will play for while being a RFA, I'd like to see that play out. It'd be good if he goes to Montreal, to me that team is set up for failure for the next 5 years.

I have a feeling management will do something stupid to dump cap. Hope I am wrong.

I very much doubt that. Is Jack Eichel or Sam Reinhart tougher than Pettersson? Is Gustav Forsling tougher than Hughes?
I actually just saw Forsling wrestle down Pietrangelo. You should watch more hockey = p

Careful saying that around here. I said that earlier and the homer’s come out of the wood work.
‘The usual silliness how we stole him by buying him at the most expensive time and how we have a brilliant management group and going to be an easy playoff team. You know the crazy self satisfaction of another off-season out of the playoffs when we finished lower than the year before while going all in.Yeah, our timing was retarded. Who buys at the TDL like seriously.
So desperate GM pays the desperate price.
I wouldn't be complaining 1 bit if the 1st/2nd rounders were 2024. But 2023... wtf. We either got sweettalked by Yzerman or never even bothered to negotiate.

So CBJ got Provorov for a pending UFA and a 2nd and got retention on Provorov.
Wow that is a lot cheaper than Hronek when you consider the lower pics, the retention and the extra year on Provorov's deal.
(Alf responds something crazy in 3...2....1....)
We overpaid for Hronek, pretty obvious from the start. 2023 draft is stacked and highly valued.

91 points in 216 GP as 1st OA selection 3 years ago? What teams would be lining up to trade a 1st rounder or 2 2nds for this guy? He's very high risk, high reward type. I wouldnt be giving any more than a 2nd rounder or a 3rd with a prospect for Lafreniere.
Just cause you want him for cheap doesn't distort reality. Half the league would line up to get Lafreniere for a late 1st if that's the cost.
-
Dude's probably looking for a 8mil+ payday. Shouldn't have traded your 1st,2nd, 3rd for him lol.

Not someone I'd build my team around. So to hand out 9% of cap like that's a hand tying move to me.
- 1
-
lol the NYR GM would get fired instantly for a trade like that. Pretty sure teams would line up to trade Lafreniere for a late first or 2x 2nds.
-
Damn Vegas is not even a very good team... but they may win the cup?

Always liked Blue Jacket. May be Babcock can go to places with this team.
-
lol.. this argument is actually quite simple. Since this is actually not the first time we've thrown a first to "retool" or fill a need.
Miller: sure didn't help us make the playoffs nor make us a contender - 2020 #20 Mukhamadullin
OEL/Garland: traded 3 expiring bad contracts for 2 new multiple years bad contracts... - 2021 #9 Guenther
Now Hronek 2023 #17
We'll see how Muk and Guenther do in the next couple of years. But "the moves that fills our needs":Miller/OEL/Garland sure has not made us a better team, based on team standings since 2020.
-
Stop trying to justify trades lol. Draft picks should always be kept unless you like to be losers forever (like we have been). Reasons like oh the pick wouldn't have turned out to be a better; Or, the pick wouldn't be ready in another 2-3 years. Is Bullshit, simple as that.
Look at Bouchard. Drafted in 2018 at #10 5 years ago. Now playing amazing hockey for Edmonton. Draft picks should be kept is not even an argument, it is a fact.

Well this Penguins teams got some work to do. A lot of old players lol.
-
Nobody remotely thought that these 2 teams would be the final 2 teams. Especially Florida. Weird as hell, but here we are.
-
Looking at how monumental the 2023 draft could be, it feels regrettable the team suddenly decides to play well in the 2nd half of the season. Shoulda mailed it in and played Martin all the way.
-
Miller can get you 14OA? I'd love to have that dream too.
(fook.. did we really trade 17OA for Hronek.....)
-
Dont think this will turn out well.

I dont get the point of this post.. You are basically saying we ace the same lineup from 22/23 and our cap will be ok. Well duh, our cap was ok for 22/23.
A few questions though.
Are we going with Silovs as backup? The #1 problem with last season was we cheaped out on goalie. Demko crapped the bed. And Martin is not NHL calibre, let alone take over starter job when Demko got injured. This was a JR mistake. Benning always made sure we had goalie depth.
3C?
Re-signing Bear or getting some quality defensive depth?
Each of those questsions cost a few million. Now that's your cap problem.

[DISCUSSION] UFA’s to sign this offseason for the forward group
in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Posted
That's a pretty weak 2nd line and I dont think those 3 have generated much chemistry after trying so much the past 2 seasons. Don't think Fast will make it to UFA.
