  1. Exactly! My big concern would be though is if he couldn’t make a go of it elsewhere yet, would it only be added pressure to try and make an impression under his pop? Hard to say, should find out though.
  2. Never hurts to have depth in that large, mobile RHD department that still might have untapped potential we could mine for cheap. Fans complain about our depth that way…then get offered on a silver platter something similar to what we might have been trying to trade for (given budgets and age demo preferences). It’s kind of a no-brainer to suss out.
  3. Speculation continues around the future of the Vancouver Canucks defense corps after the team bought out Oliver Ekman-Larsson earlier this month. Per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the Canucks have an expected interest in Seattle Kraken defenseman Carson Soucy, who will likely become a free agent on Saturday. Seravalli also believes the Canucks have engaged in discussions with the San Jose Sharks regarding a potential trade involving Tyler Myers, which would clear an additional $6MM of cap space by moving the final season of the 33-year-old defenseman’s contract.
  4. Interesting take. imho, he’s worth a shot at price point. He could still be a late bloomer. Someone will give him an opportunity and we’re potentially a good match, especially if we end up running a 3rd D line by committee for part of this season. Here’s a somewhat recent article about the player: https://thehockeywriters.com/lightnings-foote-ready-top-pair-defenseman/ https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/247895/cal-foote
  5. I think that poster meant Foote has the “potential” to become that, not necessarily currently applicable
  6. I posted it in another thread but I have a hunch we’re going to pursue Cal Foote as he wasn’t tendered by NSH. Might be a low risk high reward signing for a 3rd pair RHD
  7. Cheap too given his limited playing time. I’m really hopeful we can sign him. Great target.
  8. No source of pursuit, just a gut feeling. I think he’s on our radar for obvious reasons. Could also be off it because of same thing. Just a hunch. But in terms of his status: Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman cites colleague Jeff Marek to report that the two restricted free agents the Nashville Predators will issue qualifying offers are center Cody Glass and defenseman Alexandre Carrier. That means notable players such as 2017 first-round pick Cal Foote and capable defensive winger Rasmus Asplund will hit the open market. It’s somewhat a surprise to see Foote go unqualified, seeing that he was recently acquired as part of the Tanner Jeannot trade and does have a first-round pedigree.
  9. Have a feeling we’re gonna pursue Cal Foote in UFA. This could be intriguing. He wasn’t tendered by NSH. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/lightning/2023/02/17/lightning-cal-foote-nhl-trade-deadline-salary-cap-nick-perbix/?outputType=amp
  10. Speaking of casino, looks like Robert DeNiro’s chubby brother works for the Yotes
  11. I would argue that Garland still has value to us in that he can play in whatever capacity is asked of him, up or down. He’s potentially top 6 on a bottom feeder, but definitely a utility player. He would be a nice fit with a club like CHI. His price point is higher than what he provides (or is given enough consistency in a regular placement to provide) but perhaps he earns that elsewhere. Boeser is unfortunately one dimensional and everyone league wide understands that. It’s messed up, given his point totals, that’s he’s considered a liability but his cost for range justifies that title. We have to pay to lose these guys unless we can incorporate them into some kind of need for need trade that simply works for respective position. Eg. Boeser + pick for overpriced 3C or Dman + pick). I think that’s still possible with what might shake out this offseason.
  12. Absolutely. And we need grit like the kind Soucy provides on the back end. I’m just saying It comes with a cost though.
  13. I like Soucy for us but a fair warning to anyone who’s a proponent of signing him…beware the turnovers and lack of focused play. He can be infuriating at times. For the folks critical of Myers, you’ll likely have burnout if we have both him and Soucy in our rotations.
  14. 11+ if market continues trending this way
  15. The Penguins and Sharks are repordately talking about a trade which would free up a sizeable chunk of cap space and net the Penguins a new goaltender. The Penguins were working on Tuesday to find a new home for Petry, who was acquired by then-GM Ron Hextall last July. The goal for GM Kyle Dubas is to try to lower the Pens’ average age a touch. The view around the league is Petry has slowed down a bit and is no longer playing at a level commensurate to his cap hit. The term on his deal also makes him a little more difficult to move. It’s believed San Jose is a potential landing spot for Petry, while the Pens are also among the teams believed to be interested in Kaapo Kahkonen. https://www.pensburgh.com/2023/6/28/23777020/report-penguins-trade-rumors-jeff-petry-san-jose-sharks-kaapo-kahkonen
  16. I agree with you, but we could use Jones as stop gap while Bear recovers. I'm still reluctant though. I wouldn't offer Bear a contract until further down the road in season. That low dollar contract could very well be the difference in affording a couple true top 4 dmen right now, which is what we should be targeting.
  17. For sure. And as apparent as it’s been that we have some bad contracts to move, we did just neuter the worst offender of them all. We have to have the assets others want in order to make deals. And having been in a negative negotiating position ever since OEL was traded here, we have at least finally created options for this club to help reconfigure the now and the future. Some of the best moves are the ones you don’t make. I’m sure even the impatient folks would rather us take time to make smart deals than continue a rinse and repeat of previous, similar ones that unfortunately undermined this club (and certain perspectives in the fanbase) to this point.
