  1. He’s not trending up under Bruce. He’s playing at what was his expected output…which was still trending downwards.
  2. For 7.5 million, I firmly believe we can pick up two players who could put up more goals and points than BB and be effective on all 4 lines. And solve some depth issues.
  3. But he hasn’t earned that raise. That’s the problem. He is trending down. His QO was based on him trending up. If he signs below that - hallelujah! - and it would be trademark of his character that we all appreciate. Unless he blows the socks off and continues to improve on his totals until end of season, he’ll end up a high priced/overpaid 1 dimensional forward. age/potential can only take precedence over durability and consistency for so long…
  4. Operate? Sure. Maximize your contract value? Not so fast (sorry for the bad pun). He hasn’t shown he’s going to do that. He has an inflated future value because of age and what he has shown previously that he COULD build from. one knock…for a guy who doesn’t play a physical game, he sure is injured enough that it affects projections. Does that not concern you?
  5. I don’t get how 1million in cap space is nothing. It’s a Burroughs. It’s a Chiasson. It’s a Highmore. It’s a LllamaKO. It’s a Podkolzin. And that still leaves us with 250K remaining. we need depth. If you feel 1 million is nothing in achieving that I think you’re mistaken. I agree with a ton of what you post, but if you wanna win in this leagues you maximize and weaponize all your available cap as a contending club. look at VGK, look at TB. Not a cent wasted if it doesn’t have to be.
  6. 1) when the majority of your linemates are faster than you, unless you are a seriously profound positional player, you can become a liability for any zone entry, back check, etc etc, typical game scenarios. Speed may not be a major factor when getting in to position to shoot, but if the puck is turned over, lack of foot speed (and commitment) is definitely a liability. 2) ppl reference the sedins and foot speed. Apologies but that’s not a viable argument/comparison. game has changed dramatically since their time, and also referencing two players who, IN COMBINATION, developed their own style of play that enabled them to become successful and dominate. If you’re comparing BB to Sedins then why don’t you also compare leadership, durability, consistency, cardio/conditioning, and that’s just a few areas. If you want to stick with foot speed, that’s fine, but the success Sedins had was due to innovation, communication, and taking a less talented player and making them a first liner. If you want to argue BB has shown that, it may be tough go.
  7. Could you pls repost your numbers? Thanks!
  8. No it’s not. You have to circulate the cap space into D as well and revamp. That’s why we/Rutherford/Allvin and chipmunks, have preached young and cheaper. the big complaint is cap space. bruce has this team playing up to its potential now. Over the course of a full season perhaps that’s a playoff club. but we can all almost agree the depth is a problem. Consistency among some players is still a problem. Bruce alone can’t change this team’s fortunes. We’ve waited on this group for a few years now with some major tweaks and still a middling club. Singing some of the same players to more money is not the answer. It will keep us continuously treading water, rather than take the necessary steps to actually start swimming with the playoff sharks.
  9. His shot - when it’s on - is great. For 7.5 there is no off switch. We can’t afford it.
  10. One thing no one seems to be considering about either player is that although they are paid in USD, they are taxed in Canada. Which, especially for Miller on his next/retirement contract, that’s loads of money potentially lost out on. The team’s not a current contender, let alone playoff certainty…and people are hoping he wants to take a pay cut to stay in this media circus market?!? The one thing Miller has gained from his time in Vancouver is elevating himself from 2/3 line contributor to a team leader (and should be captain). He’s done that under a $hit coaching system, he’s done that while other players had their hands held (BB) by coaching/himself to become better players or at least put up numbers. He’s worked his a$$ off here and is a top dollar player, league wide. He should receive 8m x 6. So anyone thinking he needs to take a haircut on his salary to stay, or for us to afford him, is out to lunch, imho. BB has been granted minutes, opportunities and has built an NHL career thus far because of guys like Miller. Boeser isn’t creating any superstar players, he’s a product of them, so far. so I ask anyone, would you rather have Miller at 8mill or BB at 7.5. Because you can’t have both.
  11. Thanks to the folks providing BB analytics in his favour. Much appreciated. Im curious what you all think is a fair value contract for him going forward?
  12. Im not sure if i've underrated him, wish we could keep him. but look around the league who else could you have at 7.5mill (+0.375/-1.0) and ask what extra value would they bring to the team to surpass that of BB. it becomes quite clear that some of the comparables at that dollar value would immediately improve the club deficits in contrast to his loss, imho. examples: Ekblad Svechnikov (CAR) Hedman Kuznetsov Laine Quinn Hughes Connor Barzal M. Tkachuk Pacioretty Landeskog Reilly Keller Pastrnak Nylander Parayko Further to that, if you were to trade Boeser, would he fetch any one of these players above in a 1 for 1 swap? Don't think so. He's a high risk contract at his QO. Again, just my opinion.
  13. Totally! The thing to be hopeful about…you referenced Courtnall and his shooting percentage over 17 seasons. BB’s only had a few seasons so far but has potted a fair number of goals. He still has time to develop and is nowhere even near his prime. The QO is partially based on his game improving on those previous numbers. I don’t see that happening in any certainty at all, but I hope I’m soooo wrong and that if retained he can finally post 30 and aim for 40.
  14. My point is he’s at that cap hit because he has scored goals. He received his QO at what he did because he proved he could score goals. That’s primarily what his value has been based on. Not back checking, not PK, goals. By all accounts across the league, yeah, he’s considered a goal scorer. Do I think he’s a top tier sniper?? Nope. Do I think he’s worth anything more than 6mill on a good day. Maybe, at times. But no more than that.
  15. I’ll take your word on that one. you should try a marinade.
  16. True. That said, if the reason they missed beginning of camp was injury/medical or family related then it wouldn’t be holding out. The team still retains their rights as RFA. The assets just chose not to show up because of dollars. Pretty cut and dry. They obviously accepted team friendly deals/term, but prior to that they held out for said contracts.
  17. If it goes into camp, it’s a hold out. Not reporting to camp kind of defines that. Maybe on melmac you can put mustard on a cat and call it something completely different. On Earth, it’s a cat covered in mustard.
  18. Two of our young core just held out for more money - still good contracts though. All the good vibes established between the org and the Boeser family may end up resulting in a smoother negotiation but with many new management faces and inevitable change because of cap crunch, I just can’t see BB taking much of a discount on his contract. Sorry.
  19. There’s a fella who was on the board here from the interior who also worked in DAL and watched Dickinson play when he was with the Stars. this poster took a LOT of heat for saying Dickinson was being vastly overrated by other posters here and described why he held that perspective from his own first hand experience. turns out he was bang on. a lot of ppl on here owe that guy an apology.
  20. Yes, when you can be counted on/average to score a goal every 3 games (even if through streaky play), you’re still considered a goal scorer goal scoring is its own class of category. You can’t have multiple people score a single goal, but 2 other players can earn points off the transaction. You don’t win games by total assists. it’s why guys like James neal could extend their careers as long as they have…they can bury the puck when they have to. Another question though is BB more of a goal producer because of who drives the play around him and who his linemates are, or could he be counted on for his own hockey IQ to be considered a true sniper? im not so sure of that yet either. further to this, and a poor example, but if a player fought once every 3 games, would you consider him a scrapper? Probably. Same applies to BB
  21. No, that’s actually within range when you attach it to GP my question, especially when it comes to his QO, is his agent wants to get paid based on an 82 game projection. His actual GP numbers have been slightly declining and this causes me some doubt on his longterm production/ efficiency vs. durability. one bad slash to his wrist and his effectiveness evaporates as he is not suited, nor attributes lend, for any other role. That’s a lot of coin to tie up in a one dimensional player. if the Nux end up retaining and paying his 7.5 QO, his aggregate value should still be moneyballed down to what is the price paid per goal. In that assessment, incorporating all his tangibles, he will still be vastly overpaid.
